Chapter 281

Be that as it may, Cordy still failed to teach Dicky pronunciation that night.

Cordy couldn't bear pushing him anymore, and so let him sleep early. She would come back tomorrow

to continue teaching him.

Once Dicky got in bed, however, he refused to let her go.

She couldn't turn him down, not with that sad puppy face. Hence, she slept with him.

After Dicky fell asleep, his babyish appearance softened her heart. She couldn't resist leaning in to kiss

him on the forehead.

She would always be reluctant to part with him.

Just as she was about to leave, Dicky suddenly spoke in his sleep. "Cool hwip... Cool whip..."

Cordy's heart stung; she wondered if she had been too harsh.

She just didn't want Dicky to be ridiculed by his classmates and teachers, so she never realized that

she had put him under so much pressure.

Remembering what John had said, she gave Dicky another kiss, feeling slightly guilty about what she

had done.

She swore to herself she would be more patient tomorrow, and tucked him under his blanket before

leaving his room reluctantly.

John was still working at the bar. Seeing her step out, he asked, "Dicky's asleep?’

"Yeah." Cordy nodded. "I need to talk to you."

"Shoot."

"Can you let Dicky sleep at my place for the next few days?" she asked. "I'll send him to school and

pick him up after work, and I'll give him remedial lessons every night. Once he gets the basics, I'll send

him home."

"Are you able to do that every day, Miss Sachs?" John asked bluntly." According to my knowledge, you

go to work at half past eight, but Dicky only goes to school at nine. Will you be leaving work early to

pick him up when he gets off around four? Barring you, I’ll only trust Dicky with Winston, n

Cordy was hesitant; she had been busy with her invitation to tender lately. There were as many

meetings to attend as there were tasks to finish each day.

In fact, her work schedule tomorrow was arranged all the way to six o'clock.

"If that's inconvenient for you, I can have Dicky sent to your home everyday and take him home after,”

John suggested.

"There's no need," Cordy refused, as that would affect Dicky's bed time. In the end, she decided to

compromise. "I'll come here instead, but I'll do my best to arrange it so that my work follows a set

schedule. Once that’s done, I'd like you to agree to my suggestion."

"Of course," John nodded.

"I'm going now," she said.

"It's very late, Miss Sachs. You need a drink," John suddenly offered.

Cordy frowned.

"Winston prepared some soup for you," John said, getting out of his chair to bring a bowl from the

kitchen. "It's still warm, so it's best to drink it now."

Cordy was going to refuse when John added, "Please don't reject Winston's goodwill. It's difficult for an

old man like him to get out of bed."

The man was just fifty—by modern standards, he was still young!

However, Cordy didn't refuse.

As expected, John was as cunning as ever.

She took a sip; she had to admit, it was really good.

Her throat had grown uncomfortable from speaking too much tonight, and the soup eased her

discomfort.

When she finished the soup and was about to leave, John was already waiting at the doorway, having

put his shoes on. "Please allow me to escort you home, Miss Sachs.'

"I brought my own car.’

"It's no trouble."

Cordy said nothing. Soon, she was driving ahead, while John's Maybach followed her all the way back

to her apartment.
