"What do you think you are doing?" Staring at him, Alicia felt nervous in an instant and stepped backward, leaning against the elevator wall. Her eyes widened as if she was facing a great enemy.

Her reaction to being on guard against him pierced Jeremy's heart deeply. Feeling bitter and disregarded, Jeremy's lips quivered.

"You think I am going to... do something?" Even though it was just a casual sentence from him, it was obvious to feel his pain of being rejected and questioned. From his tone, Alicia could understand his feelings and started loosened her fist gradually to let her guard down. Therefore, for a good few minutes, she did not speak at all, but kept eyeing the elevator door from the corner of her eye.

Gradually, she felt the elevator slowed down, as if it was about to stop. After a sudden ticking sound and as Alicia moved her feet, there was a loud banging sound that shook her body. And in the next second, the entire elevator plunged into darkness. Alicia screamed.

"Aaaah!" "Don't move, Ally. Don't be afraid and don't panic." As Jeremy comforted her, he took out his mobile phone. Alicia opened her eyes to the faint flashlight.

What happened? Was there a blackout? Was the elevator out of order? Instinctively, she took out her phone too, but only to find out that there was no signal. She stated to move around anxiously.

"Don't move, stand against the wall and hold tight!" Comforting her and taking charge of the situation at the same, Jeremy pressed the elevator's emergency button as well as the buttons of each floor number.

"It's a malfunction. The elevators of such high-end residential buildings should have a standby generator and circuit breaker, why is there an outage? Muttering to himself so as not to frighten Alicia, Jeremy kept his phone's flashlight on and continued to comfort her.

Tve already called for help! Someone will cto our rescue soon! There's no need to panic, everything will be fine. When there's the mobile network again, we'll call for help." Due to the heavy rain and wind outside during this time, the CCTV monitors had been displaying pitch- black footages. The thunderstorm also drove all the security personnel to head out for inspection, leaving nobody behind to monitor the facilities. Therefore, nobody would notice their signal for help for the tbeing.

Inside the elevator, after acclimatizing herself to the surrounding, Alicia began to calm down.

How unlucky! Why did the elevator have to break down all of a sudden? Being confined to such a dark and narrow space, Alicia felt that even breathing had turned difficult for her. Feeling unsettled, she paced around and banged on the elevator door. Jeremy then pulled her aside and tried to calm her down.

"Calm down and don't move around! It's dangerous. Later on, we will call for help again, surely someone will notice us! Switch off your phone now too or else your battery will go flat very quickly. Since it was raining today, we don't know what else is going on outside..." She glared at him angrily, and then returned to a corner of the elevator feeling miffed.

This was all his fault! She would have been sleeping soundly by now, and not here suffering with him.

However, she was not in the mood to argue with him at this moment. After all, there were only the two of them inside the elevator. To Alicia, she'd be on the losing end if she were to provoke him to anger. Hence, she remained quiet.

She held her phone high to see if it could detect any mobile network but to no avail. Besides being unlucky, she really didn't know what else to say further.

The quiet space felt dark and chilly, there was also a sense of eeriness. As Alicia stared into the blank space, she felt somewhat afraid too. Standing up, she tried to look at the elevator control panel again, only to discover that besides a call-to-help button, the intetelephone was just there without any function. There was nothing else Jeremy could do too. His phone had no network signal and he was also getting uncomfortable.

Jeremy coughed.

After a few tries to call for help, he sat down at one corner dejectedly and switched off his phone.

"Try to conserve your battery. We don't know what is happening out there and how long we are going to be here. If you're scared then just talk to me," he told and coughed. "I'm sorry I got you into this." "As long as you realize it's your fault. Are you ok?" Although she was already curled up on one side, Alicia still emboldened herself. She actually knew very well that if he had not followed her into the elevator, she would be even more afraid. "Its going to be alright." After what seemed like an eternity following the aimless chats, things inside the lift remained silent and dark, with no response from the outside. It even started to smell like death from the inside. Standing up, Alicia went to press the "call- to- help button" again and shouted at the intetelephone.

"Help! Is there anyone?" She banged on the elevator door. But as it was already midnight and with the ongoing thunderstorm, there was not a sound or movement from the outside.

After shouting at the intephone for a while and not getting any response, she suddenly realized that Jeremy hadn't made a sounde for stime. Using her phone's flashlight, Alicia discovered that Jeremy had already leaned himself against the wall in one corner. He looked like he was sleeping. She went over and shook him slightly.

"Hey, are... Are you okay?" His body seemed to be really hot and there was faint groaning sounds from him. Alicia felt she couldn't breathe smoothly as well.

"Don't go to sleep, Jeremy. You'll fall sick. Talk to me! Talk to me! The least you could do is wait for us to get out first before you get yourself killed. Don't draginto this! Wake up! Stay awake!" Alicia had no strength to shake him further. She clutched her chest and breathed deeply for there was this heaviness on her chest which was difficult to describe. She then sat down as well. "Please tellwe are not going to be trapped here for the whole night or even die here." "We won't! If this is the last moment of my life, then I have no regrets because I can be with you. Ally, if I could use my life to exchange for the times we had previously, I would. But why? Why won't you giveanother chance?" "If I can, I am willing to give it all up just for you." "It would be really great if tcould stop at this moment. Just you and me, here, together..."

Mumbling to himself, Jeremy's words contained a tinge of gratitude and contentment. On the other hand, an angered Alicia thought, "Seriously, what is there to feel great about? She wouldn't want to die like this or else she wouldn't be peaceful even as a spirit."

Alicia was about to say something when she noticed something amiss.

She reached her hand to feel m er Jeremy's forehead and started patting his cheek, "Hey! Hey! Wake up! Don't sleep! What should I do with you being like this?"

Using the faint flashlight ve attended to him and also continued to look for help at the stime.

Holding his hand, Alicia gave a bite to keep him awake.

The stinging pain caused Jeremy to open his eyes naturally. He groaned, "Mm hmm..." "Don't sleep, don't sleep! Hold on a little longer! I won't feel guilty if you die!" "Someone please cto our rescue now! Why would he, of all times, fall sick now?".
