Chapter 217
Before she could leave, Samuel came in.
Maddie stood still and looked at Samuel before looking at Amelia with a gloomy expression.
“You heard everything!” Her tone was firm.
Samuel closed the door and pulled a chair to sit down. He looked up at Maddie. “Olivia is also my
daughter. I don’t want this to happen.”
Speaking of his daughter, Maddie didn’t understand.
“Olivia is your biological daughter while Emma is just your adopted child. Why are you so indifferent to
Olivia and dote on Emma instead?”
This didn’t make sense.
Under normal circumstances, the relationship between father and daughter would not be too close
because a distinction should be made between males and females.
Especially since Emma was even an adopted daughter, it made Maddie even more difficult to
understand their relationship.
Samuel’s back stiffened. He glanced at Amelia and pretended to be calm. “Back then, Amelia’s mental
state was not good and she lost her mind. If it weren’t for Emma, Amelia wouldn’t be where she is
today.
“Even if Emma isn’t my biological daughter, she’s still Amelia’s
benefactor. She was the one who healed Amelia with her love. Moreover, we’ve been living together for
19 years. These feelings are real.”
Samuel was affectionate.
Amelia couldn’t help but recall.
Maddie fell silent.
Seeing this, Samuel said even more affectionately, “If it weren’t for Emma, Amelia wouldn’t be where
she is today. She was the one who cured Amelia. If Olivia had a conscience and was filial to Amelia,
she wouldn’t be so ungrateful and hurt Emma, who was indebted to Amelia.”
That didn’t sound right.
What Samuel said could move Amelia, but it could not confuse Maddie.
She was smart as a powerful woman in the business field.
She tapped her fingertips on the table and said, “Speaking of gratitude,

the Taylor family should be Emma’s benefactor. She was just a little girl from an orphanage. It’s all
thanks to the Taylor family that she was able to be adopted by the Taylor family and become Evervale’s
top socialite.” Maddie raised her eyebrows. “Besides, you were the one who lost Olivia back then. You
should be the ones owing Olivia. How is it that she owes you?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMaddie’s words were sharp and hit the nail on the head. “What era are we in now? There’s no such
thing as children must be owing their parents. You guys had sex for your own pleasure, and having kids
is just a derivative. I address you as my brother–in–law out of respect and for the sake of my sister. But
you weren’t the one who was pregnant with Olivia. What right do you have to criticize Olivia’s life?
“You were the one who lost Olivia and caused Amelia to lose her mind. This is all your fault. You owe
her. Even if Emma cured Amelia, it was still a favor to you. Why should Olivia repay the kindness for
you?” “Maddie!” Amelia shouted to stop Madde. Her face turned red. “What nonsense are you talking
about?”
Maddie looked at Amelia and tried her best to suppress her anger.
She took two deep breaths before calming down.
She rubbed her temples with a headache. She really didn’t want to care about the Taylor family.
Even if Amelia was her biological sister, this kept happening, and she had run out of patience.
Maddie took out her phone with a solemn expression. “I’ll tell Olivia everything.”
Samuel waved his hand. “Tell her, lest her think that I’m cruel and heartless as a father. I don’t want to
make things so tense, but what can I do? Can I just watch Emma suffer?
“If Olivia has a conscience, she should take the initiative and give each other a way out. Sho
should let Emma off. That way, everyone will be happy. How nice would that be?”
Maddie did not want to say a word to Samuel. She directly dialed Olivia’s number.
Launa was eight hours behind Evervale.
It was just after two o’clock in the afternoon in Evervale, but it was
already past ten in the evening in Launu.

Colvin had pur sales a shower and were wearing a bathrobe. She held a woord en bey Hused and
wiped Ivey wet hair.
The hair had grown a lot longer and reached her neck. It added a hint of gentleness and elegance to
her appearance. She seemed less sharper and competent than she used to look when she had short
hair.
Her phone rang. She picked it up and put it to her ear. “What’s up, Aunt Maddie?”
Her voice was slightly indifferent and a little lazy.
Maddie’s phone was on speaker, so Samuel and Amelia also heard Olivia’s voice.
She sounded calm and relaxed which they had never heard before. She even sounded a bit willful like
a spoiled little girl.
Maddie smiled. Her expression relaxed and her voice became gentle. “Olivia, what time is it in Launa?
Are you resting?”
“It’s 10:23 p.m. I was just about to rest.” Olivia subconsciously acted like a spoiled child. There was a
hint of a smile in her sweet voice. “Why are you calling. Aunt Maddie? Did you miss me?”
Amelia had been listening attentively to Maddie’s call, but when she heard Olivia’s words, her
expression suddenly froze and she was in a daze.
Was Olivia acting cute with Maddie?
Amelia’s fingertips suddenly gathered together, and her wrist trembled slightly.
In a daze, she seemed to see a little girl wearing a warm white gown playing the violin seriously in the
piano room.
Being disturbed by her sudden entrance, the little girl didn’t get angry. Instead, she tilted her head and
said in a soft and childish voice, “Did miss me, Mommy?”
Maddie glanced at Samuel and said in a serious tone, “Olivia, I have something important to tell you.”
Olivia held the phone in one hand and wiped her hair with the other. When she heard Maddie’s words,
her expression did not change at all. Her attitude was still calm and casual.
“I see,” she replied. “What are Samuel and Amelia up to now?”
The question was asked in a confident tone.

She was neither angry nor sad as if she was talking about an outsider. When Samuel heard the way
Olivia addressed him, he frowned and subconsciously wanted to reprimand her.
However, he glanced at Maddie and suppressed his urge to reprimand Olivia.
Maddie said in a low voice, “They’re going to send posts on Twitter and use public opinion to force you.
You need to be prepared.”
Olivia put the towel on the shelf and said nonchalantly, “I see.”
Maddie was stunned for a few seconds.
She did not expect Olivia to be so calm.
“Aren’t you angry?”
“Angry?” Olivia laughed. “They’re just irrelevant people. They’re not worth being angry about.”
“Aren’t you worried then? Those people on the Internet don’t know the truth. They consider anything
they see on the Internet as truth. Once they get incited, they will blindly follow. As a junior, you’re in a
very unfavorable situation.”
Olivia sat on the bed and crossed her long legs. She said slowly, “Don’t worry, Aunt Maddie. Other than
those who I care about, no one in this world can hurt me.
“Samuel and Amelia… don’t matter to me now.”
Those people had nothing to do with her anymore. They didn’t matter to her at all. They would not
cause any fluctuations in her emotions, nor did they have the power to hurt her.
All the hurt she had suffered was because she cared.
Because she cared about them, she could not bear to retaliate. She allowed herself to be beaten and
scolded, retreating again and again.
They relied on her love to do whatever they wanted and hurt her wantonly, but they did not know that
love would be exhausted one day.
Hearing Olivia’s words, Maddie knew that she was confident and had long been prepared.
In that case, there was nothing to worry about.
“That’s great.” Maddie was relieved and planned to hang up.

Before she could press the button, Samuel’s gloomy and condescending voice sounded. “Olivia, as
your father, I’m offering you a chance. As long as you’re willing to forgive Emma and sign the letter of
understanding, everything will be fine.”
“You’re there too.” Olivia smiled, revealing her clean teeth. Her tone was leisurely. “What if I don’t
forgive you? What will you do?”
Samuel frowned at Olivia’s casual attitude.
“Don’t be so casual,” Samuel said gloomily. “Don’t think that just because you inherited the Smith family
and got the Lasker Award, you get to be strong enough to do whatever you want. Let me tell you, I’m
your father and you’re my child. You’ll always be inferior to me.
“I don’t want to be so ruthless to moral blackmail you with Twitter’s trending topics, but you make me to
do this. I’ll give you one last chance. Will you sign the letter of understanding or not?”
Olivia raised her eyelids. “Tell me what you want to do first, then I’ll decide if I will sign it.”
Samuel’s expression was solemn. He raised his hand and snatched
Amelia’s phone. A cold glint flashed in his eyes. “Olivia, my patience has a limit. You’d better not
challenge me!
“Don’t think that just because you’re my biological daughter, you can be fearless and think that I won’t
attack you!”
At this point, Samuel’s tone was already filled with a chilling intent.
His expression was cruel.
“I’m asking you one last time, are you going to sign it or not?”
“No!”
“Olivia!” Samuel gnashed his teeth in anger.
Amelia was a little frightened. She rushed up and took the phone away. “Olivia-”
She sobbed right after that.
“Don’t be stubborn anymore. Public opinion will really crush you.”
Amelia could not help but shudder when she thought of those people who had been forced to commit
suicide by public opinion. Her eyes turned red. “I beg you, reconcile with Emma. If this really blows up
to Twitter, not only will your career be ruined, but you will also be forced to death.”

“Are you afraid that I’ll be forced to death?” Olivia narrowed her eyes. “Then can you not send posts on
Twitter and not buy the trending topics?”
Amelia didn’t say anything.
“Heh!” Olivia sneered and looked up.
Her originally teasing gaze instantly became sharp, making it impossible for anyone to look straight at
her.
“Did you guys misunderstand something, or did my previous actions give you the wrong impression? It
made you think that you could threaten me with just a few casual words, use the excuse that you are
innocent as my parents, and shout out on Twitter to coerce me?”
