Chapter 1306

"Now that you've said that, I'm relieved," Mrs. Perez replied, her smile deepening.

She might not understand why Lydia was so set on disrupting her son's life, but Lydia was, after all, the Fay

family's precious daughter, pampered from a young age.

With opposition from the in-laws, Mabel and Tiffany waiting in the wings, Mrs. Perez was curious to see how

stubborn Lydia could be.

How long would she keep trying to be part of the Perez family?

Meanwhile, Lydia was feeling crushed but unwilling to return home. After all, she had gone against her parents’

wishes to marry Quincy, and she still remembered every word she had said in their defense. Going back now

would feel like admitting she had been wrong.

What she didn't expect was her parents driving all the way to the hotel to find her. When she heard the knock,

Lydia thought it was just her takeout. But when she opened the door, there stood her parents and Eugene behind

them.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, surprised.

"If I hadn't come, | wouldn't have known how much my daughter has suffered because of that boy!" Mrs. Fay

looked her over, her eyes growing misty. "Lydia, you've lost weight."

Those simple words broke her.

Tears spilled from Lydia's eyes.

Since leaving home, she hadn't been

able to eat or sleep well, waking up in a panic, feeling as if she could still hear someone calling her "Mom." But

there was nothing around her.

She knew these were the lingering effects of her grief over losing her child. It was different for women than it

was for men. Men could move on and find comfort in

someone else, but women often remained trapped in their pain,

especially in the quiet of night, when

the sorrow doubled.

"All right, let's go inside and talk. No need to make a scene in the hallway," Mr. Fay said, ushering everyone into

the room.

Lydia stepped aside to let them in. She wasn't thrilled to see Eugene there, but since he had cwith her

parents, it didn't seem right to turn him away.

Once inside, Mr. Fay immediately began to scold her. "We told you from the beginning to find someone who's

your equal, not spoor boy. But you wouldn't listen, always talking about his 'potential.'

"Well, how did that work out for you? As soon as he made it, the first thing he did was ditch you. What does that

say? Your mother and | aren't even gone, and he hasn't becthe richest man in the country. Yet here he is,

casting you aside."

Lydia kept her mouth shut, saying nothing. What could she say? Everything her father pointed out was true. She

had been so sure of her choice, only for reality to hit back hard.

Mrs. Fay gently tugged on Mr. Fay's sleeve, giving him a look. "Let's not dwell on it. We've all fallen for the wrong

person at spoint. She just needs to be more careful next tand find someone who's truly good for her."

Lydia blinked, surprised. Was her mother suggesting she find a new husband? She glanced at Eugene, standing

nearby, and suddenly understood everything.

"Lydia, your father and I both think

Eugene is a good match for you. He

genuinely cares about you, and our families are well-matched. Why would you settle for less, especially when

this is so much better than

what you had with Quincy?" Mrs. Fay

said, getting straight to the point.
