Once again, the bed was empty by the t| awoke. | felt a hollow in my chest; once more, | would have to hold
onto the memories he had left, until his next visit. | was sore, but | managed to get out of bed. | took my pills.
“Good morning,” the voice called, and there Daemont, still looking through my notebook.
“You stayed.”
“Yes, | did.”

He gavea small smile, and it might just be the most human thing | had ever seen him do. “You don’t have to

When | was a teenager, my favorite song was ‘Blackbird.’ | felt like that would be the perfect song, and so | sang
it to him, just as he requested.
| didn’t know if he enjoyed it, but he had beccompletely still.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes. | do.”
“I mean, | can sing something else if you don’t like that.”
“No. No more.”
