Ten minutes ago, Zou Yue dazedly walked out of the clinic. His feet took him wherever he wanted. Along the way, he ducked behind a few vehicles to stay out of the zombie's sights.

He.. he was all alone on this huge road.

The only living.

It felt nostalgic and saddening at the same time.

Yue tightly gripped the knife and moved towards the resting place he had decided previously.

Suddenly, a hand pulled him back.

Yue glanced back, half expecting Tian to run after him. But to his disappointment, it was some young man.

This young man grabbed him, pulled him to a corner and held a finger to his mouth. "shh they can hear and see very well." he pointed to a single zombie that was loitering ahead of them.

Yue pushed him off.

"come with us, we have a group...." he smiled at him.

During his last life, he too was in a group, but to his dismay, it was not a fun experience. Every night, he had to make sure to hold a knife in his hands to fend off any attackers.

It was the humans he feared.

Humans who coveted his resources and.... his beauty. He slightly regretted wearing a girl's outfit. It would just let him stand out too much.

Yue swiftly moved further away from him. "I don't care," he mouthed.

"It's too dangerous out here!" he whispered to him with a serious look. He looked about twenty something with a short military-cut hair. But to his surprise, this young man was wearing a raincoat protecting his body from blood splatter. His arms and neck were fully covered with a thick bundle of cloth.

Yue peered at him intently. This young man seemed genuinely to care about his safety. But this might not be the case of the so-called group.

"I can handle it," he moved back, keeping a careful eye on him.

Suddenly, he felt a small movement behind him. A small footstep crept behind him.

It was most likely that single zombie that as loitering close by.

Yue swiftly slashed at the zombie without even looking back.

"ahhh!" a human shouted loudly behind him.

"I-I was trying to give this to you," the other young man held out a loaf of bread. He too was dressed in a rain coat. But a raincoat cannot shield him from his knife.

he gritted his teeth loudly.

The young man insistently held out the bread to him.

Yue spat out the question that was scratching at his consciousness. "Why?"

"You said you don't want to come with us, right? We just didn't want you to starve," the guy groaningly whispered. The cut was bleeding profusely.

Yue blinked rapidly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."

"It's okay.." the man awkwardly smiled at him. His friend ran to him and helped stop the bleeding by tying his coat tightly over it. "It's bad... my blood will attract those things like flies," he groaned, holding his friends' shoulders.

As he had predicted, the growling and grunting sounds of the zombies intensified.

Yue vigilantly glanced around.

Every single zombie on the street had their heads up, sniffing the air.

"y—yes.." they all hurriedly ran around.

But the zombies started to group, with each other rushing their way.

Yue pulled the young men behind him. It was partially his mistake that this happened. He at least wanted to atone for that.

With a dagger in hand, he sliced through as many as he could, but they just kept coming and coming.

"This way!" the guy behind him suddenly shouted.

But to his surprise, two motorbikes zoomed past the many zombies. Two young men jumped off and started to clear a path for them with a baseball bat.

As soon as a pathway was visible, Yue pulled the two and ran out.

They hopped onto the bikes, but Yue paused.

"Get on!" one of them yanked him onto the back.

Yue went along with it. After all, staying at that spot was not ideal.

Without a second's hesitation, they were off.

It was a chargeable bike, the ones which cause least amount of noise. But these kinds of bikes were useless because of the power outage. But if it was adaptable to fuel, they can survive.

The zombies followed after them like lost kittens with their hands raised.

Yue chuckled softly. It really was a funny sight.

"You having fun?" the guy in front of him glanced back, laughing. "Saw you cut Gin, Seriously you are one crazy chick. I have not seen anyone killing those things with a kitchen knife,"

Yue silently gripped the knife in his hands. "Who are you people?"

"College students. We set up a relief camp in our collage and we are rescuing many people as we can," he said with a wide smirk.

Back in his past life, humans did from relief groups like this. At first their thought were noble. To save human kind. But as time passed, a darker intention rose inside. People started to get powers and their egos flared. They wanted total control.

Sadly, most of their groups were overthrown by those with bad intentions.

He used to be in a group like that. The leader who had the fire power always slaved the other group member. Since he had his speed power back, then, he was spared. Even so, after a while, his preying hands moved towards him.

One night, when he was deep in sleep, he snuck into his tent.

Thankfully, Yue had a knife and fend himself off of him.

This led to a whole other chaos in the group. Everyone blamed him for hurting the most powerful member of the group. Blamed him for the weakening of the group.

He was thrown out of the group without a care.

Yue closed his eyes sighing loudly, 'this life I swore not to be in a group. It's better to leave as soon as the zombies stop following us,'

He tapped his back. "Hey let me off at the nearby street,"

"That place is packed full of zombies,"

The young man drove them over to the streets he was very familiar with. It was the street with that college and high school.

Yue tightened his grip on the knife. This place must be the worst hit of all. It was too risky to come here. "Why are we here!" he tapped his back once again.

"Our relief centre is here," he nodded to the gate.

"What?"

In his past life, after moving to G city, he searched for information. He got to know that most of the military settlement had survived. For such a large group of population to survive, it was such a big thing.

In the distance, he could see human movement in the building.

As he was in disbelief, the young man stopped his eclectic bike in a corner before the gate and whistled loudly.

Few zombies glanced at them creepily with their jaws wide open.

Yue got down, ready to fight his way in. But to his surprise, someone from the inside the college gate put out a huge chunk of meat on a stick. The zombies nearby all ran towards it. The stick moved, all the zombies ran after it, moving away from the gate.

The initial stage of zombies did not have much intelligence. They moved towards the food that was easy to acquire.

That was clearly demonstrated by these groups of youngsters.

"Get on quick," he pulled Yue on the bike again and they both rode inside the collage premises.

The people inside locked the gate swiftly and a nearby truck backed up, barricading the gate.

He got to know of the reason much later.

And the reason was his beloved book.
