The assistant glanced up and chuckled, "Don't know him, just curious about the kind of guy you're into. He seems pretty solid."
The corners of Carol's mouth curled upward - any praise for Felix made her day.
"Then you'd better sing his praises in front of my dad, okay?"
"Will do, Ms. Miller. Have you finished chatting with Mr. Miller?"
"Yeah, | just cto grab a cup."
She took a paper cup from the side and sneakily bumped Felix with it. Felix stood aside, unresponsive.
She didn't give it much thought and took the cup back into the hospital room; after exchanging a few words with Abner, she left.
As she cout, she bumped into the assistant about to knock on the door.
"I've left my dad in your care. Callif there's anything."
"Sure thing, Ms. Miller."
Carol hurried to find Felix, latching onto his arm.
"Felix, let's go. Are you stopping by to see Listina, too?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, | won't go in then. You go ahead."
When they reached the ground floor, Felix indeed went into Listina's room. Listina noticed a scratch on his neck, barely hidden by
his collar.
Jealousy turned her eyes red, "Did you two sleep together?"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtFelix didn't defend himself; instead, he picked up an apple nearby.
"Fancy a bite?"
Listina gripped the blanket on her legs so tightly she almost broke her nails.
"Felix, are you with her just for the Miller family shares?"
"Yeah."
"And you're going to get Abner sent to jail, right?"
"Yeah."
Listina felt uneasy, sensing things were moving in an unexpected direction. Tears started to roll down her cheeks.
"Felix, we never broke up, right? | was just upset because you get confessions all the time, and it madeinsecure. I'm not
exactly a knockout, and you turn heads wherever you go. You know | get jealous easily."
"Listina, have sfruit."
"No, listen to me. I'm scared you'll actually fall for Carol! You promised it was just a fling."
"It was, just a fling."
He answered seriously, softening his voice, "Have sfruit."
Listina knew Felix never lied to her. She was still recovering and, despite her resentments, she was powerless in the hospital.
So, she had to get well and get discharged - that was the only way to keep him close!
"Alright, | believe you."
She took the apple, carved like a bunny, and nibbled on it carefully. She started talking about old times, when they wandered the
streets after their parents died, being chased around.
Felix listened quietly, his eyes betraying nothing. Inside, Listina was seething, wishing she could chew up Carol like the apple in her
mouth!
Why was Carol the one in Felix's bed? Damn that tramp! The thought of Abner going to jail and Carol's downfall was a small
comfort.
Outside, Carol sat far from the door. Her visits to Listina always ended badly; she didn't want to trouble herself further.
After sitting down, she started fiddling with her phone.
In the room, Listina grabbed Felix's hand, coaxing a kiss from him. He hesitated, kissing her cheek instead.
Listina's expression darkened; he used to kiss her lips. She forced a smile.
"Felix, you should go. Don't forget what you promised. | hope to see Abner in jail soon."
"OK."
Felix grabbed his coat to leave when Listina spoke again.
"If only Carol could be jailed too. With all the wrongs Abner has done, why should this murderer's daughter live so well? Right,
Felix?"
Felix frowned, his thoughts drifting. That used to be his wish.
But now, he didn't want Carol in jail. A pampered lady like Carol, if she had to live a life like Abner's downfall, it would be a
thousand times worse than jail. Abner was indeed her father; he knew exactly what Carol feared most.
Felix lowered his lashes and left the room. When he looked up, he saw Carol, asleep against the wall not far away.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAlone on the chair, amidst the bustling nurses, no one disturbed her.
Felix approached and nudged her shoulder. Carol opened her groggy eyes and stood up, "I need to hit the restroom. What took you
so long?"
"Aren't you the one who always complains about dirty public restrooms?"
"Yeah, but when you gotta go, you gotta go, right? Plus, I'll get salcohol from the nurse for sanitizing."
She headed to the nurse's station for srubbing alcohol. The nurse handed her a bottle with a smile.
"You're Listina's friend, huh?"
Carol didn't want to chat, because she was anxious to hit the restroom.
"Yeah."
She was about to hurry off when the nurse added something that piqued her curiosity.
"Listina is so lucky; her fiancé is such a catch."
Carol's gossip radar went off, and she leaned in closer, "Who's her fiancé?"
