Chapter 563
Maja hadn’t expected lan to intervene. She was about to pull out her phone to call Samuel Brown when lan walked
over.
The crowd parted for him.
“Isn’t that Mr. Raymond?” Curiosity buzzed through the crowd.
What was he doing here?
Even when lan was still at Greenfield, he rarely attended any parties, let alone these catfight–filled affairs.
Everyone tumed to look at Carlene and understanding dawned on them.
He must be there for Carlene.
Only Carlene, with her fists clenched tightly, didn’t make a move.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtlan stepped next to Maja, squinting as he studied her.
Maja felt exposed under his gaze, as if she were naked.
Her eyebrows furrowed, and then she heard him ask, “Who are you trying to call?”
He knew it wasn’t him.
Maja stayed silent, and lan didn’t bother to argue. Ian’s gaze shifted to Kurt.
Kurt froze as soon as he saw lan.
lan had helped Maja before. Could it be that they were still in touch?
Kurt wouldn’t dare to cross lan. He had been close to getting Maja before, but his plans had been thwarted by lan.
Fear crept into Kurt’s eyes.
“Mr. Raymond.”
lan glanced at him and then at Laura.
Laura was too intimidated by his presence to utter a word. She could sense the tension in the room.
When he arrived, the room instantly fell into silence, clearly showing the respect everyone had for him.
She knew a lot of wealthy heirs, but she had never seen this man before.
‘Penny came with me. If you want to toss her into the sea, do you plan on tossing me in too?”
Kurt turned pale and forced a smile, “What are you talking about, Mr. Raymond? I wouldn’t dare.”
Laura finally understood when she heard Kurt mention Mr. Raymond. Wasn’t that the man Carlene had a crush on?
The one who stood out from everyone else in
Greenfield?
But wasn’t he Carlene’s boyfriend?
She couldn’t help but look at Carlene and ask, “Carlene, what’s going on? Isn’t he your boyfriend?”
Her voice was loud enough for several people to hear.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmCarlene was already feeling uncomfortable and wanted to sneak away, but now everyone’s eyes were on her.
The stares felt like spotlights, threatening to peel away her carefully crafted facade.
She was so angry she couldn’t utter a word, cursing Laura as an idiot in her mind.
She could hear the whispers around her.
“Didn’t lan refuse to get married because of Carlene? He even followed her abroad.”
“Wasn’t he planning on divorcing his wife for her? Now he won’t even look at her.”
The words were like a punch to Carlene’s gut.
Her breathing became ragged, unable to refute any of the comments.
Jan heard the whispers and frowned, “Carlene and I broke up a long time ago, and we’ve never got back together.”
That comment was a blow to Carlene’s pride. She had always portrayed herself as lan’s ideal partner since she
returned.
Her lies were laid bare by lan’s words.
Maja was also surprised. She looked up at him, “Isn’t that Carlene? Didn’t you want a divorce because of her? Now
you’re saying this. Did you two have a fight?”
