Chapter 1090

She stepped into the ward and caught sight of a dude in a dark blue shirt, sitting in the room, chitchatting with her

mom

Emily freaked out, busted in there, and asked nervously, “What are you doing here?”

Charlie looked up, his handsome face devoid of any emotion, “Heard your mom was in the hospital, thought I’d

drop by. Why the panic?”

Gina cut in hastily, “Emily, Mr. James is here to see me. Why are you being so rude?”

Emily had a hunch that Charlie was up to no good, and didn’t let her guard down, “Thanks, Mr. James, but you’re a

busy man. We won’t keep you.”

“No rush. Charlie remained cool as a cucumber, not giving anything away to Gina.

There were a fruit basket and a bouquet of flowers by the bed, apparently brought by Charlie.

The ward had two beds, the other occupied by a girl taking care of her mother. The two families had been

roommates for a while and got along well. The girl curiously glanced over, her eyes scanning Charlie.

After all, someone like Charlie tended to attract attention wherever he went.

Emily felt it would be awkward to kick him out again, so she turned to Gina, Tm going to grab breakfast. What do

you want?” “Just toast and milk,” Gina said.

“Got it!”

Emily turned to leave, but Gina called after her, “Mr. James, have you had breakfast? If not, Emily can bring some

back for you.” Emily halted, looking back at Charlie.

Charlie also looked up at her, “No need, I’ve already eaten.”

Feeling his gaze on her, Emily’s heart skipped a beat and she bolted.

Gina laughed at Charlie, “Emily is still the same, always in a hurry and straightforward with her words. Don’t take it

to heart, Mr. James.”

“No problem!” Charlie grinned, “I’m used to it.”

Gina let out a sigh, “I owe Emily so much. I’m sick now, and she’s left her own child to care for me everyday. I feel

terrible.”

This had been weighing on Gina for a long time. Seeing Charlie today, she just spilled the beans, regardless of

whether it was appropriate or not.

Charlie hesitated, then said, “Her child…”

Gina didn’t know who the father of Emily’s child was, she felt a lump in her throat, and guilt washed over her, “I

forced her to go abroad. If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t have returned with a fatherless child.”

Charlie asked, “Have you met the child’s father?”

Gina shook her head, “No, Emily hasn’t been in touch with us much over the past two years. It wasn’t until Elliott

was getting married that we called her and she came back. It was only then that we learned that she had a child.”

Gina was both infuriated and heartbroken at the time, but she couldn’t reprimand Emily. After all, it was she who

had pushed Emily away, what right did she have to lecture her?

After she fell ill, Emily had been the one taking care of her, deepening Gina’s guilt. She knew that she had favored

her son and neglected her daughter, she wasn’t a good mother. So even if Emily no longer cared about her,

refused to acknowledge her as her mother, she had no right to complain about Emily.

Just then, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and a young doctor walked in with a nurse.

Gina immediately hid her sorrow and called out, “Dr. Martin!”

As soon as Dr. Martin entered the ward, his eyes fell on Charlie. He eyed Charlie for a moment, then broke into a

smile, “Got a visitor?”

Gina responded with a smile, “He’s a friend of my daughter Emily, came to see me.”

Dr. Martin gave Charlie another look, gave him a slight nod, then asked Gina, “Where’s Emily?”
