Chapter 527: Funeral
Northern Graveyard, Underground District, City of Miracles.
It was around 4. P.M.
At that moment, many luxurious carriages came from the southern road, entered the Northern Graveyard, and soon parked in the nearby garden one by one. Then, a young man wearing a green coat walked out from one of those carriages and looked at the surroundings solemnly.
After a swift glance, he raised his hand, adjusted the monocle, and took a white frock coat from his space ring.
There was a strange funeral custom practiced in the City of Miracles. While in most cultures wearing black to a funeral was the norm all over the Edhen, mourners in the City of Miracles always wear white during funeral ceremonies. Because they still follow the customs of the Ancient Era and the First Arcane Era.
To the Ancient culture, white means purity, and it was used to show respect to the departed and the family. It was also common for the deceased men to be wearing white clothes when buried.
He casually removed the green coat and wore the white one. After that, he took out the pocket watch from his space ring and checked the time.
'4.02.' He nodded thoughtfully, put it in his pocket, and shifted his attention towards the front.

The overgrown grass and stray weeds appeared all over, and gray slabs were buried in many areas. Charles also saw many security guards at the entrance, and they were constantly checking the identities of the ones entering the graveyard.
Among those guards, Charles saw a familiar face. That person was a male, who appeared to be around 45 to 55 years old, had tan skin, light green eyes, silver hair, and looked around 180 cm high. He wore a black surcoat with a symbol of three swords engraved on his chest area.
He was none other than the Security Guard Captain John!
At that moment, he also noticed Charles's arrival and nodded his head at him.
Simultaneously, Charles heard a voice in his head.
'Move forward. Also, don't make any unnecessary movements.'
It was Professor's voice.
Nodding, Charles moved forward, walked past many carriages, and soon arrived at the entrance to the graveyard.
Meanwhile, John stopped the other guards from checking him, arrived closer, and stealthily gave him a strange bluish crystal.
At that moment, Professor explained to him calmly in his head.
'Before you assassinate Demigod, you have to break this crystal and nullify all types of powers from altering Rafael's destiny. Once you break it, you will get five seconds to do your job.'
'What about Demigod's retaliation? Wouldn't he and other Legends notice my action and stop me from using the Chaos Scroll?' Charles asked with a frown.
'You don't have to worry about that. My allies will create an opportunity for you.'
Although he didn't have the slightest trust in Professor's words, he decided not to ask any more questions and walked in through the wooden gate.
As he walked inside, more than a hundred crows sat on the nearby tree branches, cawed continuously, and gave everyone a feeling of eeriness. Were they mourning for the loss of a Seer? Or, were they warning the citizens about the impending danger? Nobody knew the answer.
On the other hand, Charles walked further into the graveyard and soon saw thousands of people gathered a few hundred meters away from him.
At that moment, they all stood in line while facing the golden coffin placed before them and seemed to be waiting for the funeral ceremony to begin.
Different organization members, Tower Mages, influential family members, and reputed figures came to attend this funeral, and everyone wore a white dress like him.
'Go and mingle with the crowd and wait for the right time. I'll call you when you complete the assassination.' Saying so, Professor hung up the communication.

After a while, he looked at the front where the coffin was placed and soon raised his eyebrows.
At that moment, three black-robed mages stood next to the coffin and were in the middle of reciting a strange chant.
Among all the people who came to attend Elder Seer's funeral, they were the only people who appeared in black dress.
They also held candles in their hands, circled the coffin from time to time, and seemed to be doing a funeral ritual.
"During the Ancient Era, the Death Mages practiced these types of rituals to communicate with the deceased and to prevent their soul from going to a place of darkness. There is also a legend saying that this ritual could allow them to enter the path of reincarnation sooner." The person who stood next to him spoke solemnly. He was a young man in his twenties with wavy blonde hair, a snub nose, amber eyes, and looked more like a young master of a wealthy family.
Charles inspected him silently and soon realized that he was also a Rank-5 Mage.
"How do you know about them?" He asked curiously.
Meanwhile, that person showed a friendly smile and started talking about how he learned the history of the Ancient Era from the Tower of Mirrors.
"I presume you must have come to this city recently." He paused for a moment and introduced himself voluntarily.
"By the way, I'm Ezra. In truth, the Tower of Mirrors holds all the past knowledge of this world and is considered as a Miracle treasure house by all the mages. A total of 99 layers are there in that Tower, and one need to pass different kinds of test to move forward. To this day, no one had crossed the 70th layer yet. If you want to learn more about the ancient Elven Empire, you can find them in the 23rd layer. But if you want to learn deeper about their culture and get ancient mage pathway methods, you need to get past the 50th layer. You'll also find information about a mysterious race called Syreni in the 52nd layer, and their history is quite interesting. In one of the ancient books, I learned that they appeared more like the mermaids from the legends, but they had the traits of chaos beings. It seems there was a war that happened at that time...."
