In the police car, Nian Xi leaned against the window. Her phone slowly dropped from next to her ear. Recently, Ji Chuan had gone to the police station to see her every single day. But today, he hadn’t shown up because of Leng Shuangwei.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNian Xi wasn’t an unreasonable person. Ji Chuan could have told her that Leng Shuangwei was drunk, and then he could have asked her to come to pick her up with him. After all, they were all friends. Why had he lied to her? She even offered him a chance to bring her some food, but he lied to her because of Leng Shuangwei.
Friends in the army... What friends in the army? She didn’t consider herself an unreasonable person. She just could not stand the fact that in Feng Ji Chuan’s heart, she was never as important as a female friend of his. She wondered if her needs would always be the second most important thing to him in the future when Leng Shuangwei needed him.
Even her brother who had terribly low EQ understood that what she needed was not money but to be cared about. There were many times he had been far away from her, so he could only tell her to drink some warm water when she caught a cold. And there were many times that she wanted to talk to him when she was sad and helpless, but the calls were unsuccessful. However, all that didn’t bother her. She only needed him to love her wholeheartedly when he was with her. Nevertheless, he didn’t even love her as much as he loved a friend of his.
She remembered that Ji Chuan always praised Shuangwei when they were little. If Shuangwei hadn’t liked her brother but had instead paid more attention to Ji Chuan, would she still have had a chance to be with him?
“Let’s park right here. This place has the largest flow of people,” said the officer who was driving the car.
“I’ll get out to breathe some fresh air.” Nian Xi opened the door and got out of the car. She gazed at the stars in the sky. She could not cry. She could never cry in front of her colleagues. She could not cry in front of her family, either. However, the harder she tried to stop herself from crying out loud, the worse her heart ached, as if someone were hacking at it with a dull knife.
Countless times, she imagined herself spending her whole life with Ji Chuan. She was a police officer, while he was a soldier. They would have so many kids, and they would love each other ’til the end of their lives.
“He robbed me! He took my money!” Suddenly, a young girl who had just come out of a car burst out screaming.
Nian Xi looked that way and saw a man in a black jacket quickly dart into an alley nearby. He was holding a purse in his hands.
She chased behind him swiftly. “Freeze!” She turned her sadness and anger into strength and used it to crazily chase that robber in the alley. She stepped into the puddles on the ground and made the water splash everywhere. The robber was frightened. He clenched his teeth and ran as quickly as he could. As the distance between Nian Xi and the robber shortened to about ten meters, the robber suddenly turned onto the street at the front.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmNian Xi followed and prepared to make the turn as well, but suddenly, a young man in a white coat walked into the alley from the other side. Nian Xi didn’t manage to stop, and as a result, she and the young man bumped into each other.
The young man staggered backward and fell to the ground. Nian Xi suffered even worse. Her nose and lips had bumped hard against that man’s chest. A sharp pain immediately attacked her, invading her brain and lasting for quite a while. As the pain finally started to fade, she struggled up, walked out of the alley, and took a look around. As she thought, the robber was long gone.
She paused for a second, then squatted, buried her head between her knees, and gave way to tears. She couldn’t hold it back anymore. No one that she knew was here. She could finally cry as loudly as she wanted, to give vent to the sadness that was overstocked in her heart. She had waited for him for such a long time. In the past moment, she decided to give up. It felt like cutting off a part of herself.
It hurt; it hurt so much.
The man she had knocked to the ground was momentarily dazed. He stood up, dusted off his clothes, and stood there for a short while. And then, he walked to her, squatted, and looked at her motionlessly. He didn’t know what to do.
Nian Xi didn’t know how long she had cried. Only after she started feeling tired and her legs were even numb because of the squatting position did she wipe her tears with her sleeves and raise her head.action
