Chapter 56
Timothy took the documents and tossed them into the trash bin.
Xavier stood by the window. A cigarette was wedged between his two fingers. It burned slowly, leaving behind a
long column of ash.
Thanks to the nicotine, his irritation began to ease. He had always been excellent at recomposing himself, but he
inexplicably failed when it cto Lily.
Perhaps it was because his physical needs hadn't been met, so he constantly thought of her. She had been
mesmerizing him with her body for the past two years, after all. Xavier extinguished the cigarette and threw it
into the trash. Why should he bear the consequences of Lily's mistakes?

At Lupier's department of design, Queenie suggested that Lily wait for Nadia to assign her tasks.
Lily didn't comply, nevertheless. Although she had no prior work experience, it wasn't in her nature to back off in
the face of obstacles.
After setting up her workspace, she prepared herself mentally and got up to find Nadia.
Donning a pair of black-rimmed glasses and a neat, short bob cut, Nadia looked particularly sharp and
professional.
"Ms. Cooper, is there anything | can help you with?" Lily asked.
Nadia shot her a glare. If looks could kill, she'd be dead by now.
"You're Lily, aren't you?" Nadia rose, crossing her arms. "I'll be very honest with you. | don't want you as my
assistant. Can you leave?" Nadia was blunt, but so was Lily.
"No," she replied.
Lily had just signed a contract with the company. As long as she didn't make any mistakes or quit on her own,
the company couldn't fire her.
This hard-earned opportunity wasn't something she could give up easily, no matter how tough it got. "Fine."
Nadia had no mercy for those who got in through connections. Now that she felt she had given Lily a chance, she
continued, "Go sort through all those materials. You can't leave work until you finish." Lily glanced in the
direction Nadia was pointing.
In the corner was a towering stack of files. It was almost as tall as a person and covered in a thin layer of dust.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtClearly, no one had touched it in a long time, and whether it was even useful was questionable. "Alright," Lily
replied swiftly.
She headed over to the pile and carried a small stack to her desk to start sorting. By noon, she had barely
finished a fifth of it.
She ordered takeout for lunch but went right back to work after only taking a few bites.
When Queenie returned from her lunch break, she whispered, "The last two assistants Ms. Cooper hired both quit
because of the file sorting."
The workload was too much to finish in one day. In the face of such an impossible task, giving up was the easiest
and quickest way out.
"It's fine," Lily said. She was completely absorbed in the materials.
The documents contained Lupier's history since its establishment, as well as the design work of every designer
at the company.
To her, this was an opportunity to learn. She indeed couldn't finish all of them in a day; she was still working
diligently at her desk by 10:00 pm.
Lily could finish them if she pulled an all-nighter. As long as she stayed in the office, it would be considered done
before the end of her workday. Just as she was about to steel her resolve, her phone rang. It was Timothy. She
figured Xavier should have received the divorce papers by now.
"Yes, Mr. Snyder?" she asked promptly.
"Mrs. Fulton." The silence on the other end of the phone was palpable. It sounded as if Timothy were in a car.
"Mr. Fulton has had too much to drink." Xavier got drunk?
Lily's heart stirred. Yet, she remained silent and waited for Timothy to continue.
Her silence left Timothy feeling awkward. He had expected her to at least show sconcern.
After a while, he finally continued, "Are you at hnow?"
"Has he signed the divorce papers?" Lily deflected.
"W-What divorce papers? | have no idea," Timothy sputtered. He had no choice but to continue, "The business
partner we met tonight was quite difficult to deal with, so Mr. Fulton drank quite a lot. "He's currently passed out
in the car, and his gastric problem seems to have flared up. He's been clutching his stomach.
"I took him home, but the house is dark. Aren't you at home?"
Lily only gathered that Xavier had passed out drunk and that his stomach was acting up

Lily's nwas written In the sender's column.
In an instant, Xavier guessed what was inside. His gaze darkened.
"Xavier, this is" Sarah began, her voice tinged with concern. She was still sitting in front of him with her elbow
propped against the chair's armrest.
"Leave," Xavier interrupted. He sounded colder than ever before.
Sarah froze, feeling quite humiliated, especially in front of Timothy. But she quickly regained her composure and
got up.
"Alright. I'll leave you to your business."
Tension hung thick in the air after Sarah left Xavier's office.
Already guessing what was in the parcel, Timothy felt uneasy. But he couldn't believe it.
Was Lily really going to divorce Xavier?
Xavier opened the package and took out the documents. As the words "Divorce Agreement" cinto his view,
he tossed the papers onto the desk. He got up and went to the balcony for a smoke. Frustration and all sorts of
negative emotions surged within him. It was all because of Lily!
"Mr. Fulton," Timothy began tentatively. He could tell Xavier was in a bad mood, but he still had to report his
schedule to him. "You have a lunch meeting with Mr. Sheffield, the CEO of Hetan Enterprises, today. You're
supposed to introduce Mr. Joyner to him." Xavier's schedule was usually arranged at least a week in advance. At
that time, things hadn't yet escalated between him and Lily. But now...
Xavier remained silent.
Timothy had no choice but to ask, "Shall we cancel the meeting?"
"Cancel it," Xavier spat. Compared to Lily, he despised Bobby even more.
He contemplated for a while and added, "From now on, | don't want to deal with anything related to the Joyner
family."
"Duly noted," Timothy replied, having long been reluctant to deal with Bobby.
He placed another document on Xavier's desk and said, "This is Mrs. Fulton's schedule over the past few days."
The schedule report included the night before last, where Terence hugged Lily at the entrance of her apartment
building. It also detailed Lily's new job at Lupier.
A shiver had raced down Timothy's spine when he read it. He had clearly instructed that no company should hire
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLily, but after investigating further, he realized that Terence was a partner at Lupier. It all made sense now.
Maryanne was close to Lily, so Terence doing his sister a favor was perfectly normal. But it'd still infuriate Xavier.
Timothy couldn't predict Xavier's reaction, so he compiled all the information and let Xavier see it for himself
instead. He kept quiet the entire time. He was afraid that he might be reprimanded for saying something wrong
during his report. From the balcony, Xavier glanced at the documents and then withdrew his gaze.
"Throw it away."
He figured Lily wouldn't dare to do anything outrageous. He was certain that she was momentarily blinded by
Bobby's nonsense and thought that she could use their divorce as leverage against him.
To Xavier, Lily had always been docile and ingratiating over the past two years. There was no need for him to
monitor her.
He had to learn to be patient and wait for Lily to cave in and cback on her own. He would never offer her an
easy way out again like he did last time.
Timothy hesitated, then let it go after a second thought. It was better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
After all, Lily probably wouldn't last long at Lupier. What could she possibly accomplish after working there for
only a few days?
As for the photo of Terence hugging Lily, he thought it was most likely just a misunderstanding.
"Understood."
