Chapter 407
Evadne didn’t avert Thaddeus‘ gaze this time, a gaze that was as sincere and sparkling
Her heart was tumultuous. How much did he love her, to have his eyes moist every time he saw her, as
if he would burst into tears at any moment?
Elspeth and her daughter were blocked by Evadne and Thaddeus in the front and surrounded by
reporters at the back, feeling incredibly uncomfortable, almost on the verge of tears!
Just then, Alva stepped forward, took out her phone, and played a recording in front of everyone.
The venue fell silent. The voice in the recording was crystal clear and unbearable to listen to..
It was Elspeth’s usual abusive language towards the servants at home!
Everyone was shocked!
“My God! Record this!”
“Is this how a tycoon’s wife should behave? Even the old ladies at the farmer’s market down my street
are more civilized when they curse!”
“This is definitely going viral, no doubt about it!”
Glynnis turned pale with fear. She had also often tortured the servants, fearing that the next recording
would feature her voice.
Come on, everyone, look at the elegant and dignified Elspeth in her daily life, treating her servants with
kindness and generosity!” Alva raised her phone and started yelling.
“You old hag! How dare you set me up! Stop it!”
Elspeth, her face flushed with humiliation, rushed forward to grab the phone. But the Ashbourne
family’s bodyguards wouldn’t let this crazy woman get close to Alva and blocked her completely.
So, under the media’s lens, this scene turned into a one–sided display of Elspeth’s rage, with full
entertainment value..
“My lady, can’t you take just one recording? I have dozens more here. This is just the tip of the iceberg
of your years of bullying at the Abernathy group.”
Saying this, Alva played another recording.
This one started with a loud slap. Anyone could tell that it was a resounding slap!
A
“Erica, you clumsy bitch! You can’t even handle a simple task! The Abernathy family doesn’t keep
useless people!” Elspeth’s harsh voice came through, sounding as grating as nails on a chalkboard!
Elspeth turned pale and began to tremble.
“I’m sorry, madam. I’ll clean up right away. Ah!”
Enca’s agonized voice made everyone’s heart clench.
“Erica! Didn’t you hear me? Are you deaf?” Glynnis‘ voice appeared. She sounded so much like her
mother.
“I’m sorry, Glynnis. I’ll come right away.”
With solid evidence, they couldn’t deny their actions!
“Who gives you the right to randomly abuse the housemaids?” Arnold was furious, wanting to point his
finger at Elspeth’s nose and curse, but he was stopped by Cassius and Aaron.
“Ah, Arnold’ so fierce when he loses his temper.” Elvis shook his head on the side.
Evadne’s eyes were red with hatred, and her throat was in severe pain.
Thaddeus held her tightly, silently comforting her who was on the verge of breaking down. However,
the veins on his hand around her waist were bulging, indicating that he was also losing his patience.
Elspeth and her daughter’s faces were swollen, and the reporters were in an uproar.
“Let’s go, let’s go quickly!”
Elspeth gritted her teeth and pulled Glynnis; trying to break through the crowd.
But just then, Evadne and Thaddeus both felt a chilling wind sweep past them.
They looked up and saw Erica’s grandmother, her face expressionless, carrying a bowl of risotto, and
without a word, she dumped it onto Elspeth’s head!
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtElspeth let out a scream, her scalp felt like it was about to split from the heat!
Covered in the smell of the risotto, she had never been so humiliated in her life!
Glynnis couldn’t dodge in time and was splashed as well, feeling so nauseated that she almost threw
up on the spot!
Everyone was stunned, including Evadne and Thaddeus.
Who would have thought that the old woman, who was bedridden a few days ago due to the pain of
losing her only relative, was now filled with the strength to take revenge on her enemies? She stared
angrily at Elspeth, her frail body exuding an iron–like strength..
It was deeply admirable.
“You wicked woman, get out of here! Don’t stand here and ruin Erica’s funeral!”
The old woman stood tall and thin, her eyes bloodshot but her voice strong, “If you don’t get out of
here, believe it or not, I’ll crack your head open with this bowl! My dear granddaughter is gone, and I
have no reason to live. I’m not afraid to confront you filthy tycoons!”
Elspeth and Glynnis arrived in style, but left covered in filth, fleeing in panic..
Their departure also led the reporters away, as they were busy writing about the glorious deeds of the
wife of the president of the Abernathy group.
Despite the commotion, Erica’s funeral ended smoothly.
After being so agitated by Elspeth and her daughter, Erica’s grandmother fainted from exhaustion and
grief. She was immediately taken to the hospital by the Ashbourne family for the best care and
treatment.
In the lounge, Evadne sat on the couch, her expression still gloomy.
Although they had clearly won this battle, when she thought of the recordings of Elspeth and Glynnis‘
abuse and bullying of Erica, her body still trembled with anger, causing her whole heart to convulse
with pain.
Cassius and Arnold were off to damage control. They needed to handle the press, even though
Thaddeus had already declared war on the national media. But just to be safe, they still had to go and
control the situation, making sure to keep Evadne safe and sound.
Aaron would have loved to stay and be there for Evadne, but with cases piling up at the police station,
he had to leave.
In the lounge, keeping Evadne company were the young couple, Jason and Nydia, Elvis, and of
course, Thaddeus,
“Did someone turn on the AC? Why am I feeling a bit chilly?” Evadne asked, raising her eyes blankly,
arms clasped to her chest.
“No, it’s not on.”
Nydia looked worried, “Evadne, are you feeling well? I can find a blanket for you.”
Just as she was about to leave, Thaddeus smoothly removed his suit jacket and wrapped it around
Evadne. His caring and meticulous actions mirrored that of a father cradling his newborn.
Evadne slowly lifted her long, wet lashes, her heart fluttering.
Before her was Thaddeus, kneeling on one knee, staring deeply into her reddened eyes as if trying to
see into the softest, most painful corner of her heart.
“Evadne, I understand your feelings. I understand you.” He didn’t say much, but his simple and tender
words were more than enough to strike a chord in her heart.
“I’m just cold.” Evadne stuttered, her eyes welling up as she looked at him.
Thaddeus felt a deep ache in his chest. He opened his arms and pulled her into his embrace, wanting
to envelop her completely.
“Are you still cold?” he asked, his voice low and soft, whispering in her ear.
Evadne bit her lip gently, her body softening as if she was sinking into his chest, and shook her head
slightly.
“You’ll never be cold again as long as I’m around.” Thaddeus cooed at her like a child, his eyes filled
with deep affection.
He knew the pain of Erica’s death was still fresh in Evadne’s heart, and she was still struggling to let
go.
But it was okay, The emotional wounds inflicted upon kind souls truly take a long, long time to heal. He
had enough patience and love for her.
Watching the two of them embrace quietly, like two animals huddling for warmth, Elvis and the young
couple felt a sense of relief.
Nydia, being sensitive, was deeply moved with tears welling up in her eyes.
Suddenly, she felt warmth enveloping her hand.
It was Jason, gently holding her delicate fingers, slowly intertwining his fingers with hers.
Nydia’s breath hitched, her small face blushing like the evening sunset.
The two held hands in silence, both blushing, but hoping to hold on to each other forever.
With her emotions somewhat settled, Evadne told Thaddeus, “After today, Alva can’t stay at
Windermere Estate anymore. If you and Alva don’t mind, I would like her to move to Skyrim, and work
at Silverlake Harbor. If she wants to retire, I’ll buy her a house in Skyrim, where she can live out her
retirement peacefully. I’m not comfortable with Alva staying in Elmworth. I’m afraid Elspeth and Glynnis
won’t let her be.”
“Evadne, I have the same thoughts.”
Thaddeus looked relieved. “I also want to settle Alva down, at least temporarily away from Elmsworth,
until I can deal with Elspeth. But it’s a great idea to let her go to Skyrim and settle down there in the
future. I fully agree.”
“The only issue is, Alva might not want to leave with me. She might want to stay with you, her godson.”
Evadne teased him.
“She won’t.”
Thaddeus‘ eyes shone, gently rubbing her fingers. “Alva once said, home is where I am, even if I’m not
there, she still has you, Mrs. Abernathy.”
“Who’s Mrs. Abernathy? I’m not!” Evadne turned her blushing face away, ignoring him.
Thaddeus chuckled, fondly patting her on the head.
Elvis couldn’t take the romance anymore, so he quickly slipped out for a smoke.
At that moment, Thaddeus‘ phone rang.
He pulled it out and glanced at the screen, his eyes flickering. “Evadne, I need to take this call.”
Evadne watched him leave, her heart tightening.
Outside the room, Thaddeus answered the call. Jareth’s voice came through, “Thad, everything’s
ready. When are you leaving?”
“Tonight, on my jet.” His eyes were dark and serious.
“Take mine. You don’t need to save me that little bit of gas money!”
Jareth was generous, “You’re my wife’s brother, and I have to treat you right!”
“Your private jet is older than mine, it’s not as fast.”
“Damn, you really don’t give me any face!”
After venting his frustration, Jareth lowered his voice and asked, “Did you. tell Evadne?”
“I can’t tell her.”
Thaddeus closed his eyes and clenched his fist, taking a deep breath, “I know Evadne very well. She
has a deep sense of justice, and needs to personally deal with her enemies to find closure. If she knew
I was going to confront Warrl, she would definitely come with me, and I wouldn’t be able to stop her.
Country T is too dangerous. How could I take her there? I’m not that crazy.”
“No one loves their wife as much as you do? Jareth sighed, then added, “Actually, no one loves their
wife as much as we do.”
“You sure know how to pat yourself on the back.” Thaddeus mocked, but there was a smile on his lips.
Once he dealt with his current enemies, he hoped his best friend and adorable sister could find their
happily ever after.
And he hoped that he and Evadne could have a fresh start.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter ending his call with Jareth, Thaddeus didn’t rush back to Evadne. Instead, he stood by the
window to smoke and collect his thoughts.
Suddenly, he heard a familiar light footsteps behind him.
Thaddeus turned around abruptly, a captivating fragrance hit his nose, stirring his heart.
Evadne moved closer to him, her eyes shining, her arms propped up on his sides, pinning him under
her ample chest.
Before him were Evadne’s tender lips, moistered as if kissed by the morning dew. They were a lethal
temptation, causing heat to rush to his cheeks and his Adam’s apple to
bob.
“Have you forgotten everything I’ve told you before?”
Evadne’s delicate fingers traced down his broad shoulders to his chest, then downwards to the firm
muscles hidden under his suit.
Thaddeus‘ heart pounded loudly, his hazy eyes following her poppy–red lips.
Just as Thaddeus was about to lean in for a kiss, his fingers met with emptiness.
Evadne had snatched his cigarette, placing it between her lips and taking a deep puff, only to start
coughing violently, her face flushing red.
“Silly girl, you don’t know how to smoke. Don’t try to show off,” Thaddeus pinched her red–hot cheek.
“I really don’t understand, what’s so good about this thing that makes me choke!”
Evadne tossed away the cigarette and stomped on it. “You and my brother Elvis both can’t live without
cigarettes. You’re people, not chimneys! From now on, I’m going to play anti–smoking educational
videos on loop at home. I don’t believe I can’t cure your addiction!”
With this, her cheeks flushed even redder.
Thaddeus looked at her, tossing the remaining half pack of cigarettes into the trash bin.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, his hot breath fanning her nose, his eyes full of desire. “I’m
sorry, Evadne. I will try to quit. No, I will quit, and never smoke again.”
“I know it’s hard for you who’ve been smoking for decades to quit. Just try to smoke less. I’m not that
unreasonable,” Evadne muttered, pouting slightly. “No, I must quit.”
Thaddeus thought back and felt a pang in his heart. “You’ve always tried to persuade me, over and
over again, but I never listened. From now on, whatever you say goes. But,” Evadne blinked. “But
what?”
“If I quit smoking, can I still watch TV at your place all day?” Thaddeus asked, his handsome face
turning red, looking very much like a teenager experiencing his first love. Living for thirty years, it
seemed like he was only learning how to love now.
“Pfft-!”
Evadne covered her mouth and laughed. “What a dumb question, silly!”
Thaddeus loved seeing her laugh. As long as she could laugh, he didn’t mind playing the fool for the
rest of his life.
“When are you leaving?” Evadne suddenly asked.
Thaddeus checked his watch. “It’s about time to leave now.”
“Do you need me to see you
off?”
“There’s no need. You’ve had a long day, so go home and rest.”
“Thaddeus.”
The next moment, Evadne tiptoed to kiss him. Compared to their last kiss, this one was much more
intense, filled with tender affection.
She intended it to be a brief peck, but she underestimated Thaddeus‘ desire for her.
He held her chin, deepening the kiss. Their lips and tongues entwined, hard to separate.
After a moment, Evadne gently pushed against his chest.
Thaddeus licked his lips, savoring the sweet taste. “Evadne, you’ve improved.”
Embarrassed and annoyed, Evadne clenched her fist, intending to punch him.
But in the end, she just adjusted his tie and smoothed out the creases on his suit like a considerate and
gentle wife.
“Come back soon. If it’s too late, I won’t leave the door open for you.”
