His Ex wife is a billionaire Chapter 344
Chapter 344
The woman standing before him, laughing manically with a wicked smile, was pushing Jareth to his limits. Every word she spoke, every move she made, was a slap to his face. It was hard for him to believe that this woman was his little sister.
When did she become like this? When did his darling sister, whom he had pampered and protected, transform into this uncontrollable, fallen demon? “Answer me, Edith. Who is pulling your strings?” Jareth roared, his voice filled with desperation and anger.
“No one is controlling me, Jareth. No matter how many times you ask, my answer will remain the same,” Edith retorted, slowly standing up, smoothing her designer dress and fiirtatiously fiicking her long, wavy brunette hair.
“Jareth, I am about to marry your best friend and become the first lady of the Abernathy Group. You know how Thad is. Despite your attempts to introduce me to some wealthy suitor, I’ve always loved Thad. I would marry no one else. Aren’t you happy for me? You used to be my doting brother. Was that all a lie?”
“Edith, what on earth are you talking about?” Jareth felt a sting in his heart with every word she said.
“Oh, right. You’ve found someone new to replace me. I guess I am not as important as Evadne, am I?” Edith laughed hysterically, tears streaming down her face.
“Mark my words, Thaddeus will never marry you. Don’t get your hopes up!” Jareth gritted his teeth. “And Marilla was never your enemy. She is.”
“My future sister–in–law? A dimwit as my sister–in–law?” Edith laughed contemptuously. “Even if I accept her, Mom and Grandpa will never allow a
Fairhaven to marry into the Abernathy family. You better face reality, Jareth. No matter how much you love her, she will always be a mistress, a secret you keep hidden in the shadows. I bet Mr. Frederic would rather die than let his daughter marry you.”
Jareth’s heart ached, his breath hitched. “My marriage is my business. I don’t need you or anyone else meddling in it!”
“Right back at you. My marriage is none of your business either.”
Edith, not wanting to waste her breath arguing with him, strode towards the door, massaging her bruised arm.
“Edith, you are to return to Aetheria on tonight’s fiight: Without my permission, you are not allowed back in Elmsworth!” Jareth’s eyes were filled with anger and disappointment.
“Jareth, do you really think you can still control me at this point?” Edith leaned against the door frame, her chin held high in defiance. “Grandpa asked me to stay with him until I get married. When I marry Thaddeus, do you think you can boss me around? Think again.”
“Edith.”
Jareth took a deep breath, his handsome face pale with anger. “Once you step out of this door, from this day forward, I am no longer your brother!”
Edith’s eyes were cold and emotionless, as if she were a stranger.
“If my own brother can’t support me, then I don’t need him!”
Rumors spread rapidly in Elmsworth, and the scandal of the wealthy family was far more intriguing than any tabloid gossip. After all, people love a good downfall story.

Evadne, however, had no time to concern herself with these rumors as she had more pressing matters to attend to.
“Evadne, you are incredible!” Aaron and his sister sat with her in the corner of the Hotel’s café.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAaron spread a few photos in front of her. “Just as you predicted, that criminal had a secret room filled with pictures of Elspeth. It seems he is not the fanatical admirer of Myra as he claimed. He is clearly obsessed with Elspeth.”
Evadne pursed her l*ps and lowered her voice. “Aaron, did you find any other significant clues?”
Aaron hesitated before pulling out a plastic evidence bag. Inside it was a platinum necklace studded with diamonds, the design was dated and the quality subpar.
Evadne had an excellent memory. She thought she recognized the necklace and quickly began fi*pping through the photos.
“This necklace is the same one Elspeth used to wear. There are even photos of her wearing it. It’s identical,” she said, pulling out a photo.
Evadne’s keen eye even impressed Aaron, a seasoned detective. “Evadne, you’re wasting your talents not being in my line of work!”
Evadne smirked, “I don’t have the patience. I’d probably end up executing the criminals on the spot.
Aaron was speechless.
“It seems Elspeth and this man had a close relationship. She even gave him her favorite necklace. Do you think there could be something going on between them?” Evadne’s eyes narrowed.
“Even If there was, it’s irrelevant now. This only proves they knew each other, but it doesn’t prove that Elspeth conspired with him to attack Myra, Aaron responded, his voice serious.
know. However, the evidence we have now is enough to put Elspeth in hot water.”
Evadne held up the necklace, examining it under the light. Her eyes sparkled with a cold determination. “Aaron, your guys have interrogated him. He won’t talk. If he is truly devoted to Elspeth, there won’t be any suspicious transactions between them. We can’t pin the attempted murder on her. So, what I need to do now is use the information I have obtained to gather more evidence and land the heaviest blow on Elspeth.”
Aaron gaped, asking urgently, “Evadne, what are you planning?”
Evadne arched back gracefully, her fingertips drumming on the table, exuding a beautiful yet imposing aura.
“I’m going to pay a visit to the Abernathy family and have a chat with Elspeth.”
After parting ways with Aaron, Evadne received a call from Debby. She was informed that Debby would be fiying back to Helgen early the following
morning. In a rush, Evadne and Jason returned to Silverlake Harbor.
In the living room, Suri held onto Debby’s hand, mother and daughter teary– eyed as they exchanged heartfelt words.
“Mom, you’re being a bit dramatic.”
Debby’s voice was light, but her eyes were rimmed red, “Helgen is not far from our country. You can visit me anytime.”
“You say that, but when I visited last time, I didn’t even get to see you. You were too busy with your husband.“.
Suri tightly grasped her daughter’s hand, her voice choked, “I regret it so much. They say a daughter married off is like water thrown out, but you’re thrown too far.”
“Mom, I apologize for last time. D’arcy has a sudden work arrangement, and as his wife, I had to accompany him. I’m sorry.” Debby apologized, guilt tugging at her heart.
“Debby!”
Evadne rushed in, her eyes filled with reluctance, “Can’t you stay a little longer? I haven’t even had a proper chance to spend time with you!”
“There’s time in the future, Évadne.”
Debby quickly stood up, and the two sisters held hands tightly, “After the election, I’ll bring my husband back for a longer visit. We’ll have plenty of time to spend together.”
“Hmph, I’ll have to take your word for it, Future First Lady of Helgen.”
“Miss Evadne, you’re back!”
Jason hurried out, still dressed in a suit, but his front was dusted with fiour.
“Hmm? Jason, have you been cooking?” Evadne asked curiously.
“Myra and Ms. Nydia are busy in the kitchen. I thought I’d help.” Jason was a bit embarrassed and a bit worried.
“What? Myra’s cooking?”
Suri stood up in surprise, “Why didn’t you stop her? She just fainted this morning!”
Evadne had a sinking feeling in her heart, “Myra fainted? I need to check on her!”
In the kitchen, Nydia was standing by her mother’s side, helping with the cooking.
“Mom, are you okay?” Nydia looked worriedly at Myra’s pale face.
“I’m fine, we need to hurry up. It’s almost dinner time. It’s not good to keep everyone waiting.”
Myra muttered absentmindedly as she rapidly chopped vegetables.
Suddenly, there was a low cry of pain..
“Mom! Your hand is bleeding!” Nydia was frightened and on the verge of tears.
“Myra!”
Evadne and Jason arrived just in time to see the deep cut, and Evadne made a snap decision, “Jason, grab the first aid kit from my room. Myra’s finger severely injured and needs to be stitched!”
“Right away, Miss Evadne!”
Jason rushed back with the first aid kit at top speed, and Evadne skillfully stitched up Myra’s wound.
Seeing Evadne’s proficiency, Nydia was amazed and speechless.
Her sister seemed like a goddess with the ability to do anything and everything
In comparison, she felt useless and weak. Her own mother was bullied and almost seriously injured, yet she could do nothing. She held back her tears, barely stopping herself from crying.
“Ms. Nydia, don’t worry. With Miss Evadne here, everything will be fine.”
Jason bent down, his warm hand gently resting on her trembling shoulders. His heart ached, “Myra has cooked quite a few dishes. Let’s serve them.” Nydia noticed that Evadne wanted to speak with Myra alone, so she discreetly wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and obediently left the room
with Jason.
“Myra, rest assured. You’ve suffered such great injustice. It won’t be left like this.” Evadne’s eyes were downcast as she carefully bandaged Myra’s finger. Tappreciate your kindness, but don’t do anything for me. I’m fine!” Myra was fiustered, her eyes glazed and confused.
“Maybe twenty years ago, someone dared to harm you without restraint. If she wants to repeat her old tricks now, she’s just speeding up her own downfall.”
Evadne took a deep breath, suppressing the anger welling up in her eyes, “If she’s courting death, then I’ll grant her that wish sooner.”
Myra suddenly snapped back to reality, grabbing Evadne’s hand, gasping for breath, “Evadne, do you know who did it?”
“I do. I imagine you’ve figured it out by now too.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmA pang of pain fiashed in Evadne’s eyes, “You should tell Emeric. When his woman is bullied, how can he as a man not take action?”
“Evadne, I don’t want revenge. I just want our family to live in peace.” Myra’s tears fell one by one, beautiful like fallen morning stars. Evadne sighed deeply.
They all knew Emeric’s temperament. If he knew that Elspeth might be behind this, he might send someone to assassinate her.
Evadne thought that was not elegant and killing would bring trouble.
She was capable of both open and covert tactics, and to deal with a venomous woman like Elspeth, she’d play the cunning game!
“Myra, do you recognize this man?”
Evadne took out her phone and showed Myra a picture of the assailant.
Since the assailant had been wearing a mask at the time, Myra hadn’t seen his true face.
Myra slowly widened her eyes, “His name is Dunn, a former assistant at the TV station. He often ran errands at the station, serving water to the actors.”
“So, he had free access to the TV station building back then, right?”
“Not only that, he also did odd jobs on the set. Sometimes when there weren’t enough actors, he had to act as an extra.”
Myra asked in confusion, “Evadne, what’s going on? Why are you suddenly asking about this man?”
Evadne’s finely arched eyebrows knitted together, a spine–chilling thought suddenly creeping into her mind.
Emerging from Myra’s room, Evadne’s face was shadowed, worry etched into her features.
“Miss Evadne.”
A servant approached, his tone respectful, “A young gentleman has been waiting for you outside. He appears to have been waiting for quite some time.” Evadne’s heart fiuttered wildly, a thin sheen of perspiration forming on her palms.
Involuntarily, the image of Thaddeus standing in the bitter cold, snow swirling around him, silently waiting for her, popped into her mind.
“You didn’t tell anyone else, did you?” Her voice was husky, almost a whisper.
“No, he asked me to inform you discreetly, without disturbing others,” the servant replied.
“Understood.”
Evadne quietly steadied her erratic breathing, her heart pounding as she walked across the spacious courtyard, approaching the antique front door.
Despite their major disagreement the other day, she found herself not harboring much resentment towards him. Instead, her heart was racing, nearly spiraling out of control.
She was a strange one.
She was finding it increasingly difficult to understand her own heart.
With a dull creak, Evadne pushed open the door, her long lashes trembling slightly as she slowly lifted her head.
“Evadne.”
The call was gentle, filled with deep affection, its timbre soothing, clear, and appealing.
But it made her heart, laden with hope, suddenly drop.
The man in front of her, holding the reins of a magnificent steed, his gaze hot and his smile as warm as the morning sun, was not him.
It was Avery.
How could it not be that man?
“How did you get here?”
