Chapter 212 The Police Force
Inside the secret laboratory in Last City, Arlan was closely observing the data written in a document.
The researchers discovered something startling about the zombie virus.
"Mr. Roa, the zombie virus is constantly evolving and whenever we try to eliminate it, it changes its DNA to adapt to the situation…"
He could barely understand the words of the researchers. However, from their explanation, he could tell that the zombie virus wasn't easy to eradicate.
"The viruses found in the evolved animals are the evolved form of the zombie virus. What's more surprising is that the same virus is present in the bodies of the evolved plant life forms…"
Arlan put down the document and asked. "Is it possible to make a cure for these viruses?"
The head researcher became silent. The most talented researchers in the country were gathered in this laboratory, but they were still stumped even after weeks of research.
Looking at his expression, Arlan sighed internally. He didn't expect that the zombie virus was actually so powerful that even the best researchers in the country were powerless against it. "Just keep trying. I believe you guys will discover something soon." He didn't know if he was consoling the researcher or himself. He then left the laboratory.
Arlan decided to stop by the newly established police force after he visited the laboratory.
The main station of the police force was located at the heart of Last City. Upon his arrival, the police officers stood up to greet him.
"Greetings, Mr. Roa!" The police officers highly respected Arlan. Because of him, their families were not affected by the zombie virus. They were given a new home and a chance for a better life.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Where is Fabian?" Arlan asked the officers.
Hearing this, one of the officers answered. "The chief is out to check the new recruits."
"Is that so?" Arlan immediately went to the training facility of the police force. They had a separate training facility, but it wasn't as big as what the military had. However, the facility still had the best modern equipment and they even had an underground shooting range.
When Arlan arrived at the training facility, Fabian was already waiting for him at the entrance. When Arlan came to the main building of the police force, someone had already informed him of the matter so he came to greet Arlan.
"Boss!" Fabian gave him a salute. This young had grown into a capable leader in just a short amount of time. Back then, he only treated Arlan as a rich man. He never thought that he would one day become his boss. Life was truly unpredictable. Thinking about this, Fabian revealed a complicated expression.
Arlan smiled at him. "I heard that you are here to observe the recruits. How are they? Did you find some talented ones?"
Fabian chuckled upon hearing this. "Let's talk inside."
Arlan followed him to the training facility. The police force under Fabian has five hundred police officers. There weren't a lot of them, but they were enough for the time being since there were still no reported criminal activities in the city. However, with the arrival of the citizens all around the country, things might not be the same. Hence, Fabian requested to increase the size of the police force before it would be too late. Luckily, Rex De Guzman and the other officials of the city were smart people. They also understood the importance of the police force so when Fabian's request came to their table, they approved it without hesitation.
"We had more than three thousand applicants, but only forty-two people managed to pass all the examinations. Among them, there are two excellent recruits. The first one is a man named Timmy, and the other one is an eighteen-year-old girl named Celine." Fabian seemed to have high expectations for these two people.
Arlan silently listened as Fabian told him about the recruits. Soon, they arrived at the underground shooting range.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Arlan could already hear the gunshots. Fabian told him to wear an earmuff, but Arlan declined. "It's alright." He said.
Fabian didn't insist. He knew that Arlan wasn't a simple guy so he just let him be.
While Fabian was giving him a tour around the firing range, the recruits were secretly talking about them.
"Who is that person? The chief seems to be respectful to him." A guy asked curiously.
Celine heard their conversation so she turned her gaze towards Fabian. When she saw the person he was talking with, Celine exclaimed in surprise. "That's Mr. Arlan Dominic Roa, the leader of this base!"
The other recruits were stunned by her words.
"That's him? He looks so young."
"I can't believe that the big boss of the base is actually such a young guy!"
"Don't underestimate him. I heard that the boss is as strong as the military commanders."
"Eh? Really?"
The military commanders of Last City were already famous. The people saved by them were numerous and their tales had already spread in the base. People were aware that the base had powerful commanders and they all respected them. The most famous was Khalon. He was rarely sent out to battle, but many people had witnessed his power. The next one was Sigurd. He was the most active among the commanders and people knew him because of his terrifying combat prowess. The most surprising thing was that Winter who was never sent out to battle was also among the famous commanders. She only came out less than three times, but everyone was mesmerized by her beauty. Other than those three, Karl, Cedrick, and the other commanders were also famous. All sorts of stories about them had already to the city.
When the recruits heard that Arlan was as strong as the commanders, they were shocked. The person who said this was Timmy, a former farmer who was saved in Quezon Province. He heard this from a drunk soldier some time ago.
"Keep quiet! What are you guys chattering about there?! Continue your practice!" A cold voice drifted into their ears. The recruits quickly went back to their training spots after hearing this person. It was a stern-looking woman dressed in a police uniform. Her name was Zenny and she was a former police officer who worked alongside Fabian before the zombie outbreak. Because of her abilities, Arlan directly promoted her to Police Lieutenant.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmZenny had some conflicts with Arlan before the outbreak, but Arlan didn't think too much about the issue. She had some real skills and she fully deserved the promotion.
Zenny stared at Arlan who was speaking with Fabian. She finally realized why her mentor was willing to work for him. Arlan was a reliable leader.
Meanwhile, Arlan didn't know that the recruits were talking about him. He was just listening to Fabian as the guy told him about his future plans for the police force.
"Boss, the base would soon reach its maximum capacity and there might be a need to relocate the excess people to the underground bunker in Catanduanes. I think we need to send a hundred police officers to keep an eye on the people there. The military is busy so they won't be able to deal with these matters."
Arlan nodded his head in agreement. "That's a good suggestion. Make a report about this and send it to Rex. Tell them that you have my approval."
Fabian was pleasantly surprised. Having Arlan's approval would make things easier. The officials might have a high status in the base, but none of them dared to go against Arlan. "Thanks, boss!"
Arlan smiled at him. Suddenly, he recalled something. "By the way, I remembered that the equipment you requested is almost ready. I believe that the manufacturing department will send them soon."
Hearing this, Fabian's eyes flashed with delight. This was one of his worries. The equipment of the police force was outdated compared to what the military had. They were still using the old equipment that already had some issues. "That's great! Everyone will be happy to hear this!" He grinned.
"Once you get the new equipment, you guys will receive practical training to fight against zombies. Although there is a low chance for the virus to spread in the base, it's better if the police force is prepared if that happens. This is mandatory so you should inform your subordinates about this." Arlan said in a serious voice. He didn't want the police force to become relaxed just because they were safe in the base.
Fabian's expression turned serious. "I understand, boss." It seems like Arlan was serious about developing the police force, but this was also good since he didn't want his men to become complacent.
Arlan patted Fabian's shoulder. "Relax. You guys will not be sent to the major cities so it won't be too dangerous."
Fabian forced out a smile. "Boss, even if you send us to remote locations, the zombies are still dangerous."
"True." Arlan chuckled.
The two chatted for a long time.
