After many rings, he finally picked up.
“Hey, Maggie. What’s going on? Why are you calling out of the blue?”
“Lloyd, meet me at Tea Coffee at 5:30 tonight. There’s something we need to discuss,” Maggie stated
firmly.
“Why can’t we talk about it at home?”
“It’s very important. That’s it. I’ll see you later.”

Concerned for her friend’s safety, Rosalynn offered her support. “I’LL go with you Later.”
Grateful, Maggie nodded in agreement. “Thank you.”
That evening, Rosalynn went with Maggie to Lloyd’s rental apartment.
Maggie packed up all her personal belongings. Then she threw the small, insignificant things she had
bought into the trash bin.
After cleaning up, Maggie took one last look at the place, her eyes turning red with unshed tears.
She had built her hopes for their future in this tiny apartment. They were supposed to spend the rest of
their lives together. It turned out that it was all wishful thinking and naivety on her part.
Rosalynn went over and held her while she wept.
Afterward, the women went to Tea Coffee.
They hung around and waited for a while, until Lloyd finally showed up.
He was sporting a white shirt and black suit pants. He Looked decent enough.
Rosalynn glanced briefly at him and transferred to another table, giving the couple some privacy to talk.
“What’s the matter, Maggie? Why did you insist on meeting outside? I have to attend a dinner party

He paused in the act, looked up at Maggie, and flashed her his usual lopsided smile. “Come on,
Maggie. It’s not April Fools’ Day. Stop joking around.”
Maggie looked him dead in the eye and asked, “Do I look like I’m joking?”
