Chapter 195
"So, you're Hayes?"
Liam settled into the chair, his formidable presence making it hard for Hayes to even breathe.
"Yes, sir, I'm Hayes," he stammered, drenched in sweat and shaking, desperate not to anger the man before him.
Liam's gaze was frosty, his voice calm but loaded with a threat that sent shivers down Hayes's spine.
"Did I just hear that Yafe and Sherah have been messing with my wife?"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLiam tapped the chair's armrest rhythmically, the sound echoing ominously. He was just sitting there, but the fear he inspired was palpable.
Hayes's voice trembled with fear as he spoke, "Yes, yes! They approachedtoday, handed over a hefty sum of 50,000, and wantedto conspire with them against Ms. Celena Stone. It just so happened that Ms. Celena Stone walked in on us, and a heated argument broke out. Sherah lost her temper and slapped Ms. Celena Stone, hurling insults at her."
A wave of dread washed over Hayes. Celena was his wife, and that man—was he the so-called deadbeat, the homeless Liam they all scorned?
How could it be that Liam, labeled a nobody, instilled such fear in Mr. Eaden Wafer, the powerhouse of Drunham City?
Who was that Liam, that even Eaden, a man feared by many, trembled before him?
Hayes couldn't get another word out before Liam's presence grew more menacing, the air around him turning icy with his fury. Everyone there felt the weight of his anger, struggling to catch their
breath as if the very temperature plummeted.
With a thud, Eaden, who stood closest to Liam, felt the full brunt of his rage and quickly bowed his head in alarm.
"Please, sir, forgive my intrusion!"
Eaden's bow sent shockwaves through the crowd, Hayes included, as fear flooded his senses. That was the kingpin of Drunham City's underworld, a man whose ncommanded a spot even among the likes of Willoughby!
And yet, there he was, submitting to Liam!!
Once Eaden showed his deference, Liam's intimidating aura subsided, and he fixed Hayes with a frosty gaze, his voice cutting through the silence, "You should understand what needs to be done."

I realize it was wrong to side with the Yafes in their dirty work! I'll do everything I can to help Ms. Celena Stone with the order. Please, sir, you're a man of great kindness—spare my life!"
Liam gave a slight nod, his expression unreadable. He glanced over at Eaden and said, "I'm leaving the rest to you. Don't disappoint me."
Eaden bobbed his head eagerly, showing Liam out with all due respect. Liam, keen on keeping his identity under wraps and aware he was out longer than intended, made a beeline back to avoid any unnecessary complications.
Back in his little courtyard, Liam peered into the darkness of his room, a wave of relief washing over him. He strolled into the living room and flicked on the light, only to find Celena, draped in a blanket, perched on the couch.
His heart did a little flip. He ran a hand through his hair, a clumsy attempt to hide his unease, and whispered, "You're up?"
"Where have you been?" Celena's voice was even, almost detached.
Liam paused, his eyes scanning her face for clues. Did she figure something out?
