Chapter 132
Chapter 0132
Candice was caught up with the property staff when Alex’s voice interrupted.
“The water pipe upstairs burst,” the staff explained, “and we need to check her apartment.”
Alex looked at Candice, who appeared frustrated, as she assured them. “I’ve already inspected.
Everything’s fine here.”
“We’re worried about your safety,” the property staff persisted.
Feeling hesitant to allow strangers in at such a late hour, Candice was on the verge of declining once
more when Alex nonchalantly agreed, approaching to enter himself.
Irritated at being disturbed in the middle of the night, she asked, “What are you doing?”
Alex responded calmly, reminding her, “You do recall who’s the owner of this apartment, right?”
Candice’s face hardened, as did her grip on the door frame.
Alex had purchased the apartment for her when she first joined the firm. She mistakenly assumed at
the tthat her lover simply desired to spend more twith her each day.
With a heavy heart and a somber expression, she stepped aside, allowing Alex to enter.
Feeling a breeze from the doorway, she realized the apartment was in Alex’s name, leaving her
potentially homeless if he chose to reclaim it.
The property team left after performing a quick check, and Alex followed them.
He looked back at Candice, taunting, “Good to see you’re at least aware of safety concerns.”
Candice silently watched him leave, then retreated into her apartment.
Sleep escaped her after she returned to her room.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe found herself browsing through a housing app, scanning rental options in Dorrington City, where
finding a good apartment was challenging.
Annoyed, she set aside her phone. Lying in bed, eyes shut, she attempted to settle her turbulent
thoughts.
Yet, sleep remained elusive that night.
A phone call woke Candice up the following morning.
“Did I disturb your rest?” Hanley’s rich and deep voice spoke over the phone.
Noticing it was 8 a.m., Candice responded while massaging her forehead, “No, what do you need?”
“I have a favor to ask. Could you fetch something forurgently?”
Hanley wouldn’t have requested this of Candice unless absolutely necessary.

“Of course, what is it?” she inquired.
“It’s a document that needs stamping and then to be sent to me.” Hanley explained. “Jackson has it,
but he’s busy today, so I’m turning to you.”
Knowing Hanley’s nature, Candice said, “Tim on your team, no need for formalities.”
Hanley briefed her on the document, stressing the need for careful verification before stamping.
Candice inquired about the stamping details and location and then hung up. Hanley’s assignment
helped her feel more at ease after the previous night.
She dressed up and exited her apartment.
When Candice called Jackson, he was already en route to a neighboring administrative district. He
directed her to retrieve spapers from his hwhich he had left in his study.
It was Candice’s first visit to Jackson’s home. She got there around ten in the morning.
Jackson shared his mother’s kind and soft eyes. Jasmine was there to let her in.
Unexpectedly. Helen was there too. She was surprised to see Candice and questioned sharply.
“Why are you here?”
Unprepared for Helen’s presence, Candice clarified. “I’ve cto collect sdocuments for a friend.”
Jasmine nodded. “Jake told me. You’re here for Hanley’s documents, correct?”
“Yes, they’re needed urgently. My apologies for any inconvenience.” Candice responded.
Jasmine, a professor, exhibited a serene and respectable presence, conversing gently with Candice.
She offered to retrieve the papers from the office and instructed the housekeeper to serve tea.
Candice gratefully accepted the tea, sipping it politely.
Helen remarked scomfully, “You seem quite close with the Shyans.”
Candice simply stated, “I’m just here for an errand.”
Helen gave a noncommittal huff,
Candice, who had once always been reserved and eager to please Helen, sat silently, no longer
seeking her approval
Jasmine soon returned with the documents, asking. “Are these the ones you need?”
After verifying them, Candice affirmed, “Thank you.”
Jasmine smiled. Her demeanor was always cordial and polite.
Recalling something about Hanley and Jackson’s remarks, Jasmine inquired, “I hear you’re
collaborating with Hanley on certain projects?”

“Starting with learning is always good,” Jasmine remarked kindly, “Feel free to join Jake and us for
dinner sometime.”
Candice recognized Jasmine’s Indirect cue to depart and got up, saying, “I must organize these for
Hanley, Farewell, Mrs. Shyan.” Candice paused, addressing Helen and saying, “Goodbye.”
Helen appeared to ignore Candice’s presence.
After getting the documents stamped as Hanley had instructed, it was midday.
Candice grabbed a quick bite to eat, mailed the documents to Hanley, and then proceeded to see Joe
at the hospital.
Joe appeared to be in much better shape than before. When he saw Candice, he asked, “Have you
had lunch?
Candice put down the fruit she had brought and asked, “How are you feeling today? Better?”
“Much better!” Joe responded with a relieved expression. “The doctor says I can leave in a
a few days.”
“So soon?” she asked.
Joe chuckled, “What do you mean it’s so soon? Staying here is costly.”
He was well aware of the exorbitant expense of his private room, medical tests, and nursing care at the
rehabilitation center.
Candice understood how difficult it was to make money. After coping with Yvonne’s situation, she most
likely didn’t have much savings.
Joe advised, “Try to save more. Your pay is great. It’s nice to have sfuture security.”
His words subtly referenced the situation with Alex.
Candice lowered her gaze, reflected, and confided, “I’m considering leaving Aether Corporation after
my contract ends. I’m considering resigning.”
