Spirit cuisine was the same as spirit stones—items to supplement cultivation. Spirit cuisine differed in that it was eaten and digested into the body. Its qi was more gentle and easier to absorb compared to the energy within spirit stones.
Using spirit cuisine to break through depended on both the caliber of the fare itself and the cultivator’s fortunes. It was similar to cultivating with spirit stones in that ascension was not guaranteed.
However, spirit cuisine tended to be too expensive. The Spirit Glyph Sparrow that Lu Yun roasted would sell out even if he priced it at ten thousand paramount spirit stones. Of course, he didn’t intend to earn money that way. Cooking food was just a hobby, something to do for family in moments of leisure. He didn’t really want to become a spirit chef.
“How did you do it?! You used a first rank Spirit Glyph Sparrow to create a dish that was almost immortal fare…” There was no trace of the girl’s earlier contempt and derision to be found. The apples of her cheeks were red and grease from the bird ringed her mouth, presenting a rather adorable sight.
“Or is the powder you scattered over it from an immortal pill? There were hints of an immortal pill in that dish…” She smacked her lips. Although it’d been nearly four hours, some taste lingered in her mouth. Her brows knit together. “So you used an immortal pill…”
“What does the miss think of my spirit cuisine?” Lu Yun chuckled like he didn’t see her expression.
“You used an immortal pill to season the dish, so it overpowered the food. That was not spirit cuisine.” The girl’s expression was unpleasant.
“Can it be that you wish to do that deed?” Lu Yun blithely continued.
The girl fell silent without a word.
“Forget it, I can’t be bothered to lower myself to the same level as you.” He shook his head and turned to leave.
“Wait!” The girl blocked his way again. “Did you use the powder of an immortal pill just now?”
“Immortal pill?” Lu Yun curled his lip. “As wealthy as I might be, I wouldn’t waste an immortal pill on a spirit cuisine.”
He tossed the jade flask to the girl. She unstoppered it and took a slight sniff.
“Dew Grass, Skyfrost Fruit, an orchid, Flame Root…” She frowned after reeling off a dozen spirit herbs. “How is this possible? They’re all first rank spirit herbs, the lowest of the low with nothing special about them.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Magic happens when you scatter them over a Spirit Glyph Sparrow,” Lu Yun interjected.
She sent out a flying sword and knocked down a passing Spirit Glyph Sparrow, quickly dressing it and summoned a ball of true origin fire to roast it.
Mouthwatering fragrance quickly rose into the air.
“This is indeed the case… but it doesn’t measure up to the one you made. Are you actually a spirit chef immortal?” The girl finally understood. “Kong Mengqian greets the master and requests that you accept me for a disciple!”
She suddenly bowed in front of Lu Yun.
“Do you really want to become my disciple?” Lu Yun asked without a change in expression.
“Yes!” Kong Mengqian nodded emphatically.
“I know you have a lot of masters.” Lu Yun nodded, realizing that Spirit Chef Shen was an alias—Kong Mengqian was her real name. He could tell that she came from an illustrious background possibly even more prestigious than Fengxian Wu. She was a soul separation powerhouse at such a young age and a very competent spirit chef. He could also see the traces of no less than ten powerful teachers on her, and they were all stronger than true immortal.
“But I will be your only master after you become my disciple. Can you do that?” he asked solemnly.
“I only want to learn how to cook spirit cuisines from master.” Kong Mengqian frowned and lifted her head.
“In that case, forget it.” Lu Yun shook his head and left.
“I can promise you that I won’t take anyone else for a master after learning from you!” Kong Mengqian called out urgently. Lu Yun’s methods of creating such high level fare from low level ingredients were heaven-defying. She couldn’t let this chance slip out of her fingers!
“Then what about your previous masters?” Lu Yun asked.
“They were masters in name only,” Kong Mengqian answered.
With that, Lu Yun understood that her skills most likely came from family elders or servants.
“But if you become my master, you must teach me the Nine Forms of the Cloud Dragon,” Kong Mengqian added after some thought.
“I will naturally teach you everything I know if you become my disciple,” Lu Yun smiled faintly.
Kong Mengqian curled her lip. Although the young man was extremely talented, that was all he was. Those like him could be found like carp in a river in Great Xia—he was nothing special. As for the body method, he’d probably lucked out and obtained Senior Slaughterless’ legacy somehow.
“Let’s conduct the ceremony then,” Lu Yun chuckled.
“Here?” Kong Mengqian looked around them.
Lu Yun pointed at the sky. “Your martial grandfather is watching from above.”
“So martial grandfather has already returned to the heavens.” A resigned Kong Mengqian looked at a master weaker than her. But since there’s no martial grandfather, that means there’s no sect to restrict me. I keep my freedom and this young man weaker than me cannot discipline me.
Her disposition turned sunny again when her thoughts traveled here.
As strong as Kong Mengqian was, she was just a young girl of sixteen years old. She had a good heart and did things according to her personal preferences, but didn’t think of the consequences due to a lack of experience in this world.
Lu Yun’s tactics wouldn’t work on anyone else. If it was an experienced soul separation powerhouse in front of him, their first thought would be to capture Lu Yun and force him to reveal how he’d made the dish and the Nine Forms of the Cloud Dragon.
“Master, please accept a bow from your disciple Kong Mengqian!” The girl respectfully bowed to Lu Yun, but didn’t fall to her knees as she should.
Lu Yun didn’t mind. He was the disciple of heavenly dao, which made Kong Mengqian the martial granddaughter of the heavenly dao. If she dared betray him, the heavenly dao would likely send a chaos tribulation to smite her out of existence.
“Hahahahaha!! What wonderful news to hear that junior brother has obtained a fine disciple! This connate item has a shared destiny with your disciple, so it is her greeting gift!” Sky’s voice reverberated in Lu Yun’s mind and he felt something appear in his storage ring. When he scanned it, he found a tattered green bamboo staff.
“Um…” He brought it out and saw that it was one meter long with the thickness of a thumb. It was green throughout and looked completely ordinary.
“Your martial uncle gave me this treasure. It is your welcoming gift today.” Lu Yun flushed faintly after he introduced it. Of course Sky had given him a fine treasure, but it looked… very shabby. It was a pitted stick that a dog had gnawed on.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmKong Mengqian’s expression turned stiff and she stiltedly took the bamboo staff, murmuring, “This… this disciple thanks master…”
An ordinary stick of bamboo…
Her mind swept it again and again, finding nothing remotely treasure-like about the item. But since she’d made up her mind to learn from Lu Yun, she wouldn’t embarrass him. Thus, she solemnly placed the bamboo into her storage ring.
“Alright, you will follow me to Fallen Leaf Mountain first to handle a few things. After that is complete, I will teach you,” Lu Yun coughed.
Rumble!
A massive ray of sword light cut through the air and hacked a distant mountain into two. A figure tumbled out of the sky.
“Hahaha Gui Xie, finally out of strength to run? Now you can die!”
Another massive ray of sword light soared into the air and hacked at the remains of the mountain.
Whoosh!
An enormous black flag rose to meet it, scattering resplendent starlight across the void. Cosmic splendor streamed to it from a mysterious void and met the ray of sword light.
BOOM!!
When starlight and sword light collided, the halves of the mountain were annihilated to level ground. Gui Xie spat out a mouthful of blood and trembled like a leaf.
“Die!” The person in the air attacked again.
“Gui Xie?” Lu Yun blinked. Wasn’t that the latter combination powerhouse who’d received Empress Myrtlestar’s legacy? Someone was chasing him and had injured him to the point of death?
Empress Myrtlestar was Lu Yun’s friend, he wouldn’t let her heir die in front of him. He sent out a green seal with a wave of his hand and manifested it as a small mountain more than fifteen kilometers across. It was the seal that he’d taken from the Ashflame city lord, the mountain restricted by a seed storage formation.
KABOOM.
The small mountain was likewise sliced into two when it met the terrifying sword light, but it also afforded Gui Xie a second of breathing space and helped him evade the sword light.
“Help him!” Lu Yun darted toward Gui Xie with Immortals Forbidden beneath his feet, not waiting for his new disciple to answer.
“How dare two ants obstruct this seat?!” The person in the air was a young man in blue. He frowned at seeing Lu Yun block his sword light.
