It was only then that Irene noticed the faint, unpleasant odor in the air and the blood all over the ground. This
was too big an incident for the manager to handle alone. "How many people know about this?" Irene asked, her
expression icy.
The manager quickly replied, "Ms. White, | sealed the factory doors immediately when it happened, not many
have seen it."
Irene nodded, "Inform the families of these individuals, give them extra compensation. Also, ensure those who've
witnessed this keep quiet. This must not get leaked. And make sure nothing like this happens again."
The manager glanced at the bodies, swallowed hard, and finally nodded.
On the way back, Irene anxiously instructed her assistant, "Make sure to calm the families’ emotions. They
mustn't report to the police. If they're unwilling..."
"I understand," the assistant replied gravely.
Irene nodded in satisfaction. The factory in Canalshore was in a very secluded area. Besides a few rundown
villages, there were no other buildings around. As she looked at the scenery outside the window, her mind was
filled with Yasmine's questioning gaze. That woman dared to question her? But what concerned her most was
Yonas's reaction. That man was truly meticulous. First, he addressed the interview, downplaying Yasmine's
scandal, then intercepted Yasmine when she cto confront Irene.
"Ms. White, someone is investigating that matter," the assistant said.
Irene's eyes were sharp, "Who?"
"We haven't tracked them down yet."

"Useless! No one can find out about that matter!" Irene said coldly.
The assistant quickly nodded in agreement.
The sky was gloomy, and the wind was blowing through Irene's hair. It was already past eleven at night.
Normally, she wouldn't choose to go out this late, but something significant happened today. There were hardly
any cars on the way home, and theirs was the only one traveling on the wide road.
"Who's there?!" the driver suddenly exclaimed.
Irene looked at him discontentedly, "What's going on?"
"Ms. White, it seemed like there was someone outside the window just now."
Irene followed his gaze outside, but the road was empty; not even a cat in sight.
The driver rubbed his eyes, "Maybe | was just seeing things."
Irene's face turned cold as she stared out the window. As the car passed a streetlamp, a white figure appeared
not far from it. Her heart skipped a beat, and she gulped. By the third tshe saw the white figure, she shouted
urgently, "Stop the car!" She got out, eager to see what it was, but the figure was gone again. "I have to see
what's playing ghostly tricks!"
The driver was so frightened that his hands were trembling, and he drove twice as fast as before. The usual hour-
long journey took only forty minutes this time.
Back home, William wanted to scold her for looking so flustered but Irene rushed to her room and slammed the
door as if ghosts were chasing her.
Daisy made a bowl of soup. "Sir, Ms. White didn't have dinner. I'll take this soup to her so she can rest well after
having it."

"Hmm," William glanced curiously toward the stairs.

In the middle of the night, the sky was shrouded in darkness, with the moon high up but its supposed glow
hidden by thick fog. It was a very cold night, with a chill sweeping through the air. The White family was in
silence, but soon, everyone was awakened by a piercing scream. It was Irene's anguished cry. Curled up in pain,
William hurried into her room, but he had no idea what had happened.
Daisy followed closely. She'd been taking care of Irene since she was little, treating her almost like her own
daughter. "Ms. White, what happened? Did you have a nightmare?" she asked worriedly.
Irene's face was filled with terror, and William's brows were furrowed in concern. It was only at the sight of
William that Irene regained a bit of her sanity. She absolutely couldn't let William know about this. "Grandpa, I'm
fine. | just had a bad dream," she said, wiping the sweat from her forehead. William gave her a skeptical glance
but didn't say anything.
But what Irene didn't expect was how things got stranger afterward. That night, in the deep quiet, everyone was
sound asleep. Irene was sleeping deeply near the window area when she turned over, and a faint tapping sound
cfrom the window. Half asleep, she frowned slightly. Though she was in deep sleep, the sound woke her up.
When she opened her eyes, a creepy scene unfolded. A shadow was drifting back and forth, and a chill ran up
her spine as she widened her eyes. That outfit was too familiar-it was the one Teresa had worn on the night she
died.
"Ah! Daisy!" She urgently called out to Daisy beside her. Since the last nightmare, she'd had Daisy sleep next to
her with a simple makeshift bed on the floor.
Tears were already streaming down her face in fear, and Daisy quickly comforted her, "Don't be afraid. What did
you
"I saw it! | saw Teresa!" She was already crying out loud.
Hearing the nshe mentioned, Daisy was also startled, her senses snapping back. "Who did you say?"

"It was Teresa." Irene clutched the blanket, trembling with terror, "It's her, she's cto kill me."
Daisy protected her, "Ms. White, there's nothing to fear, there's nothing here. I'm right here with you."
"Daisy, | really saw it just now!" Irene was very scared.
"I know. I'll stay with you. Don't be afraid." Daisy sat by the bed.

Irene lay down, continuously watching the window outside in fear, tossing and turning for a full hour before she
succumbed to sleep out of sheer exhaustion.
"Knock knock..." A faint noise sounded again, waking Irene. The windows in Irene's room were covered with
heavy curtains, and after hearing the subtle sound, she opened the curtain, and at the moment she did, she
witnessed a horrifying scene! This sight almost made her faint! A figure was floating and jumping high, scaring
her into waking Daisy immediately, "Auntie! Look quick!" But the figure vanished in an instant, yet Irene had
clearly seen it.
After Daisy was woken up by her, she thought Irene had a nightmare. "Ms. White, there's nothing there," Daisy
said nervously, looking out the window. She quickly pulled the heavy curtains closed and turned on a warm light.
"This light won't go out. You should get ssleep. I'll stay here and watch over you. If there's any ghost or
anything, I'll protect you."
Thankfully, with Daisy around that night, Irene managed to continue sleeping. However, when she woke up
during the day, she felt lethargic at work, handling her tasks with little energy. She hadn't slept well for three
days, and by the tshe finished dinner after work, Irene was exhausted. She quickly headed back to her room,
ready to sleep.
