Chapter 832

Colton stared at Evelyn. He had not imagined she would have suddenly grasped the severity of the situation.

He calmly looked down at her once more before turning away.

"Good."

"Oh, right. I still have one more thing to discuss with you. Can you come with me?" she abruptly asked.

On the outside, he remained calm. On the inside, he was wondering why she was acting so weird that day.

However, he could not put his finger on what was off about her behavior.

When he did not respond, she continued to speak.

"It is about Nicole. I would tell you now, but I don't think it's a good idea since there are so many people here."

"Anyway, even if I want to kidnap you, I can't win a fight against you, right?"

There was a semi-joking tone near the end of her sentence.

Nevertheless, the mere mention of Nicole's name was enough to make Colton's heart skip a few beats. Emotions

visibly warred in his dark eyes. It was a while before he finally answered her in a raspy voice.

"Okay."

His agreement caused hatred to flash in her eyes. Her fingers twitched. It took a lot of effort before she could

suppress the anger swirling in her.

She then forced a smile onto her face while holding her dress up with one hand. "Come. We will go to Grandpa's

study room. It will be quiet there."

"No, it's fine. Let's just talk in a quiet corner somewhere," he said, rejecting her suggestion.

She was not surprised by his answer. After all, he currently did not have a good impression of her.

She nodded.

"Alright. Let's go to the backyard. No one should be there right now."

He silently accepted the alternate suggestion and followed her to the backyard.

As she was wearing high heels, she could not walk fast. Hence, she walked with her dress lifted up and in tiny steps.

Behind her, Colton had his hands in his pockets the entire time. He looked so languid and relaxed.

The two of them walked into the backyard which was more dimly lit than the front lawn was. Their two shadows

were hazy on the ground due to the few faint, yellow tiny lights that were scattered around the yard.

He stopped and turned to her.

"Alright," he said. "You can speak now."

In Evelyn's mind, she was seething with anger. She had not truly expected him to follow her here only because he

wanted news of Nicole.

She pursed her lips and eventually said, "Mom wants to recognize Nicole as her adopted daughter, legally

speaking."

He frowned, not expecting this development to happen out of the blue.

However, on second thought, if Nicole became Siobhan's adopted daughter, she would be a child of the Gould and

Wrenn Families. Perhaps Benedict would not be so opposed to the relationship then.

As news of the relationship only broke recently, Benedict had strong objections to it. Once he had time to get used

to it, once he saw Hayden more often and fully comprehended Nicole's identity, Benedict might slowly accept the

relationship.

relationship.

Not only that, but the Gardners would not object to Colton marrying Nicole once she was Siobhan's adopted

daughter. The adoption would kill two birds with one stone.

"Well, Nicole did save Madam Gould. It is normal for her to have that idea," he commented.

Evelyn's teeth ached from how hard she was gritting them. She looked up at him.

"Collie, do you think it's good that my mother is adopting Nicole?" she asked.

He did not give her a response as his body started heating up for no reason soon after they stopped walking.

It was not a hot day, and it was currently evening. Additionally, he was only wearing two layers of clothing. Why

would he be feeling warm?

He tugged at his tie as doubt crept into his mind.

She knew her drug was working when he tugged at his tie. A sweet smile spread across her lips.

"To be honest," she continued. "I think it would be great if Mom adopts Nicole. That way, our families might grow

closer."
