Chapter 872

Even though Sasha's plan was exposed the second time on the same day, she wasn't bothered by it. Instead, she

chuckled.

A smile stretched across her face as she slowly said, "Miss Anderson, I've never thought about using you. In fact,

I'm trying to cooperate with you."

"Thanks, but no thanks," Nicole interrupted before the other woman could finish her words.

Nicole smiled softly and elaborated,

"I'm aware that what's between me and Colton won't work out, so I've given up on us a long time ago. Miss Brimley,

if you want to try your chance, I won't stop you."

Then, she raised her gaze to watch Sasha and cast a smile at her before continuing,

"If you believe that there is a chance between you and President Gardner, go ahead."

Nicole's distant behavior caused uneasiness within Sasha, and the scowl on her was evidence of it.

At first, Sasha was confident that she could convince Nicole, but Nicole's attitude suggested otherwise. Judging from

Nicole's indifferent expression, it was clear that she didn't have any feelings for Colton.

As Sasha fell into silence, Nicole went on with the conversation with a smile on her face.

"Miss Brimley, to be fair, we aren't that close. So, I won't keep you any longer."

Sasha's expression darkened at the words. After a while, she began with a blank face,

"I apologize. However, Miss Anderson, you know where to find me if you changed your mind. After all, even if you

aren't doing it for your sake, do it for your child's good. I don't think you would like to see the situation where your

son lives the rest of his life without his father's acknowledgment happening."

Even though Nicole was smiling, the smile didn't quite reach her eyes. "Don't bother, Miss Brimley. I can manage."

After fixing Nicole with an intense gaze, Sasha didn't say any more words. At last, she pushed her chair back and

left.

Once Sasha was out of sight, Hayden finally asked, "Mom, who is that? Is she your love rival?"

Nicole reached out her hand and poked his forehead. She wasn't hiding her accusatory tone. "You don't know what

you're talking about."

He swatted away her finger. After pondering for a moment, he continued, "I mean every word! Isn't the lady just

now coming for Dad?"

His words were true, though.

Colton was a target that was hard to miss among the crowd. Most women wouldn't hesitate to jump at the chance if

there was even one, to begin with.

However, the story between Nicole and Colton was far more complicated than anything else. Due to what

happened to William, she affirmed that she didn't see any possibility of continuing the relationship.

"You're right. She's coming for your dad, but I don't want to get involved," Nicole decided not to hide the truth from

her son.

The disappointment that flashed across his face was conspicuous. He sadly hung his head, but he wasn't losing

hope as he asked meekly,

"Mom, do you really not see any point in you and Dad?"

She understood what Hayden was longing for. However, every feeling she had for Colton was all in the past, and

she believed it was how their story ended.

Moreover, the Gardner Family already announced Colton and Evelyn's engagement to the public.

"Hayden, I won't stop you from seeing your dad. However, what's between us is the past." Reaching out a hand,

Nicole caressed Hayden's head.

Even though disappointment remained on his face, Hayden expressed his understanding with a nod, and said, "I

understand."

Looking at her son's sad face, Nicole decided to steer his attention away by cutting a small portion of steak and

serving it on his plate. Then, she coaxed softly,

"I was told this place serves the best steak in town. Here, sweetie, have a try."

Hanging his head low, the boy looked at the steak in front of him and kept quiet as he began to dig in.

Even though he stopped mentioning Colton for the rest of the outing, a hint of disappointment was written on his

small face.

As Nicole was his mother, and the pair spent their time together for many years, she could simply tell what he was

thinking from his sad look.

However, she didn't have the right answer to his worries, so she pretended not to notice his bothered look.

It was supposed to be a wonderful weekend for both of them, but Sasha had to ruin it.
