Chapter 174

When Bailey heard that Rhonda was here, she rushed over, only to see the latter bawling her eyes out.

At the sight, Bailey could not help giving a mocking chuckle.

Zayron, too, rolled his eyes at the sobbing woman. “Why are you crying? He's not dead, you know? But

with the way you're howling, you might as well start preparing for his funeral.”

Whipping her head, Rhonda glared at Zayron sharply.

“I bet you must be looking forward to him dying, huh? After all, once he's dead, you'll become the next

heir of the Luther family.”

“What the f*ck did you say?” Rage welled within Zayron when he heard Rhonda's scathing remarks.

“Don't assume things on your own. I have no desire to acknowledge the Luther family, nor do I ever

think of myself as part of the family.”

Rhonda could not be bothered to continue arguing with the brat and turned to look at Bailey.

“You cold-hearted b*tch! How could you poison my son? Aren't you afraid of retribution?”

Bailey burst out laughing.

Me? Poisoning her son? Hah! What a crazy mutt. Here she goes again.

“Well, there's nothing I can do about it since I've taken a fancy to your son's inheritance,” she

responded. “I wanted my son to take his place, so I did what I had to. Now, can you take a guess at

what's the most effective way to clear an obstacle?”

Upon hearing that, Rhonda widened her eyes, a look of disbelief on her face.

She did not expect Bailey to say such a thing.

Turning around, she saw Artemis standing at the entrance, and she rushed toward him without saying

a word.

However, she was left hugging air when the man unhesitatingly dodged away.

With teary eyes, Rhonda looked at Artemis. Dialing up her pitiful act, she uttered, “Did you hear that,

Artemis? She said she was aiming for Max's inheritance, and that she wanted her son to replace him.

Why don't you send such a cruel woman to prison? Are you really going to stand idly by as she harms

our son?”

Artemis raised his brow, giving her a side-eye. Smiling, he asked, “Who told you that Maxton would be

the next heir of the Luther family? Was it me? My dad? Or the Luther family's elders?”

Stunned, Rhonda staggered and took a few steps back. It was not until her back hit the wall that she

muttered coldly, “So, in order to help Bailey's son become the next heir of the Luther family, you

actually stood by and watch as that b*tch turned Max into a fool? You don't deserve to be a father,

Artemis.”

Artemis shook his head. He could not be more disappointed in the woman before him.

He decided right then and there that he would not interfere, even if Maxton chose not to acknowledge

Rhonda as his mother.

This woman only has money and status in her mind. Maxton is nothing but a cash cow to her. A normal

mother would never have the time to think of anything else if she sees the dire condition her son was

in. If Rhonda had the slightest affection for her child, she wouldn't have left him hanging at the side

while she bicker with another person over some fickle matter.

“Men, take this woman away.”

“No!” Rhonda roared. “Artemis, you can't keep protecting Bailey! She's the culprit! She's the one that

turned Max into a fool! I want her in prison! She needs to bear the consequences of her action!”

A look of impatience flashed across Artemis' handsome face, and he ordered the manservant that

came in, “Take her away immediately.”

Before Rhonda could even resist, she was dragged away by two burly men.

“Bailey, you will suffer retribution! You won't die an easy death! I curse you! And I curse your two

b*stard children to have a painful death!”

Stepping forward, Gwendolyn held Bailey's arm and comforted, “Bay, don't mind that mutt's words.”

Recomposing herself, Bailey stated in all seriousness, “Yeah, she's indeed a mutt.”

Gwendolyn chuckled at that, but when her gaze fell on Maxton, she sighed. “Poor child...”

After the operation, Glen recovered well and did not have any complications.

However, since Bailey could not guarantee there would not be a relapse of the tumor, she instructed

the members of the Chivers family to give Glen a CT scan every three days.

As for Maxton, he was sent back to the Luther residence.

Bailey said that she would need to do some research and see if she could develop a drug that could

restore the boy's nerves to normal.

By the time she was done handling Glen's matters and settling Maxton down, three days had already

passed by.

As for the incident of plagiarism with Les Cinq Series, it was hyped up again for some reason.

Although the public relations department of Luther Group tried to suppress the news, it was to no avail

due to the dire situation abroad.

After her absence of thirteen days, Bailey finally returned to Luther Group.

The first thing she heard from her assistant the moment she stepped into the company was that Luther

Group was holding a board meeting in the conference room and that the discussion was getting rather

heated.

With her interest piqued, Bailey decided to stop by the conference room.

As soon as she arrived at the entrance, she heard Alistair Walker, an older shareholder, speak. “There

has never been an incident of plagiarism since the establishment of Luther Group. But the moment

Bailey was hired, this happened. Although she wasn't the one who signed the final draft, this matter

was still handled by her, so she should take full responsibility for it now that trouble has arisen.”

“Mr. Walker's right. Since Emmy Boutique refused to let the matter go and insisted on taking Luther

Group to court, the stock price will be affected once the case is filed for investigation. We're talking

about a company with a net worth of hundreds of billions here. Who will bear the heavy losses once the

stock price drops sharply?”

“That's right. Bailey needs to be suspended, and this matter must be investigated. It'd be for the best if

we could push all the blame on her. Then, we'll get the public relations department to get in touch with

the person in charge of Emmy Boutique so that they would only sue Bailey and not the whole Luther

Group.”

Clap, clap, clap!

A series of applause rang out, attracting everyone's attention as they turned their gazes toward the

conference room entrance.

Bailey stepped into the room in her high heels. Fixing her gaze at the group of shareholders in suits,

she smiled and mocked, “Is this really how the great Luther Group handles their problems? I really

have to say, you've opened my eyes. Turns out all you successful people are nothing but cowards. All

you know is to find a scapegoat whenever you've encountered a crisis. The bravery you've displayed is

unheard of, gentlemen!”

After a moment of stunned silence, the crowd finally snapped back to their senses.

A more foul-tempered shareholder refuted, “You're the one who made this mess, so what right do you

have to drag Luther Group into the lawsuit with you? Now that everyone's watching Luther Group's

every move, is it so wrong of us to get you to take all the blame?”

“You foolish woman, don't you know you should be responsible for your own wrongdoings? You're not

telling me you want Luther Group to pay for your stupidity, are you?”

Just then, a thunderous bang rang out as Bailey slammed her bag onto the table heavily, effectively

stopping the shareholders' barrage of comments.

“What the hell are you all yapping about? Did I ever say that I'm going to avoid taking responsibility?

What's the big deal? It's just Emmy Boutique. Give me three days, and I promise to give you a

satisfactory answer by then.”

“What an arrogant woman! What do you mean that it's just Emmy Boutique? This brand managed to

rise through the ranks six years ago and has developed into one of the biggest brands in the world in

just a few years. Even Luther Group is wary of them, and yet, you're saying that it's no big deal? Your

hubris baffles me.”
