Chapter 1172
Angelina felt a lump in her throat as Hertha insinuated that she’d slept with Alaric, and even worse, that
Alaric ended up footing the bill?
How could there be such a shameless woman?
Hertha slept with a man and then claimed she played him.
That was taking ‘playing the field’ to a whole new level.
Had she known Hertha was this kind of woman, Angelina wouldn’t have offered her a dime, let alone
any form of compensation.
But now the words were already out, and Hertha had her sights set firmly on the two million.
It was too late for Angelina to take it back.
Boiling with silent rage, Angelina didn’t speak. She just snatched the check Hertha handed her,
whipped out her phone, entered the account number, and transferred two million.

two million credited.] That was fast indeed.
Witnessing the lavishness of the wealthy, Hertha smirked at her phone and said to Angelina with a
snide grin, “Got the cash. I’m outta here. Goodbye, no, let’s make that a farewell.”
With that, she stood up and left.
As she reached the door, Hertha bumped into Remington and Beatrice coming back from their morning
walk. Beatrice greeted her warmly, “Hey Hertha, you’re up. Had breakfast yet?”
The thought of those two hearty breakfast bowls and Angelina’s words filled Hertha with resentment
towards Beatrice and Remington. She brushed past Beatrice without a word, not even sparing her a
glance.
Seeing Hertha storm off, Beatrice exchanged a curious look with Remington and asked, “What’s gotten
into that girl?”
Remington shook his head thoughtfully; he was just as clueless about Hertha’s mood swing.
She was all bubbly and warm yesterday; what made her ignore them today?
Beatrice and Remington stepped inside the house.
Just a second before they entered, Angelina sternly instructed the housekeeper, Eloise, “Keep your
mouth shut about this, got it?”

Eloise nodded, visibly shaken.
No sooner had she spoken than Beatrice and Remington walked in, hand in hand. Angelina was still
seated at the breakfast table where a full, untouched breakfast lay.
Beatrice asked Angelina, “What’s with Hertha rushing off like that?”
“Well, she mentioned something about being late for work, wouldn’t even stop for breakfast. Probably
tuckered out from last night and overslept,” Angelina said with an innocent, benign smile.

Beatrice tapped her forehead, reproaching herself, “Silly me, I really piled it on last night. I forgot young
folks have jobs to rush to in the morning.”
“It’s okay. They’ll understand your good intentions,” Angelina replied with a smile, the picture of a good
girl.
“Yeah, I just want them to settle down soon. It’s not often Alaric falls for a girl, and he needs to seize
the chance. Otherwise, he’ll just keep playing the field, and that’ll be even harder. His whole life could
be ruined by dalliances.” Beatrice lamented with heartfelt
concern.
Angelina looked away, choosing to remain silent.
“Worn out. Let’s catch a few winks,” Beatrice said, pulling Remington by the hand back towards their
bedroom.
The elderly couple had their routine: up at dawn, breakfast, a walk, and then back to bed for a little
more shut-eye before lunch, another stroll, and afternoon tea.
