Chapter 896
“Gosh, that jerk is terrifying!” Behind Evelyn, little Elowen suddenly burst into tears.
Her tiny hand, tightly clutching Evelyn’s finger, trembled with fear.
Evelyn felt a pang in her heart. She shot Bruce a furious glare. “I’m telling the truth, Bruce. You need to stop
bothering us. daughter and I have nothing to do with you anymore!”
Bruce, already infuriated, took a menacing step towards Evelyn at her words, his posture threatening.
My
Thalassa, visibly shaken, quickly stepped forward, blocking Bruce’s path. With a stern expression, she said, “I saw
your daughter, Susan, at the dinner party last night. She was thrown out by Lysander. My children are Lysander’s
children!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHer words were few but firm.
Bruce paused, his sinister gaze shifting to Thalassa. “And what about you? Are you my daughter?”
Bruce could tell that Thalassa was using Lysander as a threat. Lysander had allowed Thalassa to attend the dinner
party but had thrown out Susan, Bruce’s daughter. This was a clear indication that Lysander respected Thalassa but
would not extend the same courtesy to anyone associated with her.
If he scared her children, Lysander would not let him off easily.
Bruce’s question to Thalassa held a double meaning.
Firstly, he wanted to confirm whether Evelyn had betrayed him.
Secondly, he wanted to use Thalassa to gain favor with Lysander.
Thalassa met Bruce’s cold, threatening gaze, as though he would strangle her on the spot if she answered
negatively.
Thalassa gritted her teeth and said, “I wish I weren’t your daughter! I dream of it!”
Evelyn’s eyes widened in disbelief as she gazed at Thalassa. She hadn’t expected Thalassa to say that.
Why didn’t she deny being Bruce’s daughter?
Bruce’s grim expression suddenly relaxed into a smile. His demeanor changing as though he was wearing a mask.
“Thalassa, I was only trying to scare you. I wasn’t really going to hurt you. Don’t take it to heart. I mean, Evelyn
loves me so much, how could she possibly betray me, right, Evelyn?”
Bruce laughed, his eyes twinkling with an unmistakable malice.
Evelyn shivered at his gaze, instinctively shielding Elowen closer to her, avoiding his gaze.
Her avoidance, in Bruce’s eyes, was an affirmation.
He touched his nose, lowered his head, and glanced at the children hiding behind the adults. “Don’t be afraid, I’m
your grandfather.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmI initially came to discuss something with your grandmother, but it seems she isn’t welcoming me. Perhaps I’ll come
another time. You all continue playing and don’t be scared.”
As he spoke, he reached out to pat the children’s heads.
Evelyn quickly pulled the children away from his reach, glaring at him, “Bruce, I don’t want to see you. Leave!
Haven’t you ruined my life enough?”
Evelyn growled, her body trembling.
Bruce had ruined her life, and now he was trampling on her dignity to satisfy his ego, all the while claiming that she
loved him so much and would never betray him.
Every mention of the word ‘love’ left Evelyn feeling disgusted, tarnishing her heart.
How could she have been so foolish to fall for such a man, spending most of her life pining for him? Even in her old
age, she was almost fooled by his sweet words into thinking he truly wanted to give her and Thalassa a home.
The more Evelyn thought about her past stupidity, the more she hated herself, and Bruce, the scum that he was.
“Don’t get agitated, Evelyn. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave. But remember, don’t speak ill of me. I don’t like
hearing about you betraying me.”
With that, Bruce shot Evelyn a cold, threatening glance, retracted his extended hand, and walked away.
