Breaking Off The Engagement (8)
“What a question. Clearly, he wanted to get rid of the witness,” Ji Fu said tauntingly. The murderous intent in his eyes was obscure but present.
The urge to kill Qing Xuantian was strong when Ji Fu recalled Bai Ye’s suffering. He only held back because the bastard did not deserve a quick death—he wanted him to suffer.
“That’s rubbish! That’s not how it is, the guard must be lying for Young Master Qing to strike him down! A mad dog, he was!” Yun Mengmeng truly was a master of deceit, coming up with an explanation for Qing Xuantian’s actions on the spot.

Bai Ye snapped and growled fiercely. “Shut up!”
In the next second, Bai Ye shed her ‘innocent and harmless’ persona and said loudly, “Qing Xuantian, I am not dumb. You know what you did to me. Our engagement ended when you watched Liu Mingyan sever the tendons in my limbs!” Her young voice was filled with hatred and sadness.
“There is only hatred between us, nothing else! You will die by my hands when I’m stronger. This I swear on my blood.”
Bai Ye sliced her palm with her obsidian scalpel. Blood dripped from her hand as she made the oath.
A blood oath from a practitioner meant only death will stop them from fulfilling their promise.
Practitioners placed heavy emphasis on the paths of reincarnation and an oath unfulfilled meant risking the wrath of higher powers. Therefore, oaths were treated with caution, more so when it involved blood.
Qing Xuantian was taken aback by Bai Ye’s blood oath. A part of him wondered if he had gone too far in Banruo Village.
The young girl who had clung onto every word he said was gone, in place was a shrewd girl filled with hatred and murderous rage.
“Was it a mistake…” For the first time, Qing Xuantian was doubting his instincts.

Yun Suqian said, “Nonsense! Marriage is a momentous event that has implications for your future. The matchmaking was done and the pledge was made. You have no right to call off the engagement when I agree to it as your uncle.”
The older man’s words woke Qing Xuantian from his daze. “He’s right. Little Ye, don’t let that man you call Grandpa Ji fill your head with nonsense. When were you disabled? When were the meridians in your body severed? Look at your limbs, you’re fine.”
“That’s right! I saw you dispatch my guards easily a few days ago. Disabled? Who will believe you?” Yun Mengmeng joined the chorus.
This was Qing Xuantian’s back-up plan. He wanted to ‘rightfully’ kidnap Bai Ye and he was prepared to use this line of conversation to bolster credibility with the crowd. While he had expected Bai Ye to resist, he was utterly surprised by the unique stunt she pulled.
Bai Ye had no proof!
No evidence!
It was just her words. She was resisting in vain as no one would believe her. Qing Xuantian was sure he still had the upper hand.
“What are you jokesters saying? Just because Little Ye recovered, you want to spout your lies? Little Ye is just…” Ji Fu’s words trailed off mid-sentence when he realized the puzzle pieces did not fit.
