After what seemed like an eternity, Milana felt like she was about to die from the pain.
Dylan was only taking it out on her as usual, but this time, he seemed to have had a drug boost that
made him even more aggressive.
“N-No. It hurts...” Milana groaned.
Sh*t. I regret all of this. I don't want to die here!
“What's the matter? Isn't this what you wanted?” Dylan scoffed, refusing to stop while he was on a high.
He truly believed that Milana didn't mean what she said, and he needed to punish her for it.
Milana struggled weakly and shook her head. “I-I don't want it anymore. I don't...”
Unfortunately, there was no one else around to save her. The bar staff had made it a point to avoid the
alley when they saw Dylan going in with a woman.
After all, the last thing they wanted was to walk in on the couple doing something inappropriate.
Meanwhile, Milana thought she had been torn in half as a searing pain coursed through her body.
When Dylan had had his way with her, she collapsed in a heap and curled into a ball.
Despite that, the notes on the ground still looked very eye-catching to her.
Although her tears had dried up, the makeup on her tear-stained face had already gotten smudged.
Without saying a word, she stretched out her trembling fingers with the chipped nails and slowly picked
up the money.
An hour later, Milana arrived home in a taxi.
She was about to take her keys out when the door suddenly opened from the inside.
“Where the hell have you been? Do you know how late it is?” Henrietta bellowed. “Why would you still
spend the night gallivanting about when you're pregnant? Even if you don't care about yourself, you
should spare a thought for the child! Let's see how you'd explain yourself to the Richters if they found
out about it!”
Shocked by her mother's sudden appearance, Milana's face twisted into a grimace. “I thought you had
died.”
Henrietta almost choked upon hearing that. “You idiot! How dare you curse your mother like that! Why
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtwould you even think I was dead?”
“If you weren't dead, why did you disappear without a trace?” Milana explained before setting down her
things and walking into the house. “I'm hungry. Cook something for me.”
Before Henrietta could reply, she caught sight of the pair of heels her daughter had just taken off and
reeled in shock. “Are you out of your mind? You're pregnant, and you're still wearing high heels?”
“The baby's gone! I've miscarried! And I might never be able to get pregnant again!” Milana shouted as
she stepped into the bathroom and began removing her clothes.
For the next few seconds, she vented her frustration and told Henrietta the incidents that had led to her
miscarriage.
After getting over the initial shock, Henrietta felt nothing but a wave of sadness.
She knew her daughter well and even remembered that the latter had undergone her first abortion
during her sophomore year.
“Why would you still fool around when you're pregnant? More importantly, why are you still dead set on
dating a rich man when you're already carrying Zayne's child? You're so naive! Look at what you've
done to yourself. What future is there for a woman who can't get pregnant? You don't expect me to take
care of you forever, do you?”
Milana wanted to take off her underwear, but unfortunately, her legs hurt even at the slightest touch.
No matter what she had to endure outside, Milana would never let herself crumble, so now that she
was home, all she wanted was a good, long rest.
Before she could take a seat, though, she realized she had started bleeding from her private area.
“Mom, I-I'm bleeding...” Milana screamed, terrified by the amount of blood pooling at her feet.
“What?” Henrietta blurted out. She had wanted to continue scolding her daughter, but after hearing the
panic in the latter's voice, she quickly entered the bathroom.
Needless to say, the sight shocked her beyond measure. “Oh, my goodness! What's happening to
you?”
Milana instantly broke down and told her mother everything that had happened in the alley.
“I-I thought he'd bear the responsibility. Who knew he'd be so violent? T-The thing is, he's very wealthy
and good-looking...”
Without further ado, Henrietta whipped out her phone and called for an ambulance.
“Yes, please hurry,” she said to the responder before throwing the phone away in a fit and turning to
Milana. “Will you show yourself some respect? So what if you can't find a man? Is that the end of the
world for you?”
“What do you expect me to do, then? Should I have threatened to kill myself?” Milana fumed before her
lips curled into a condescending sneer. “Besides, you can't live without a man either! You hooked up
with a married man back in Mr. Rumpley's hometown and ended up being chased down and beaten.
Ha! Did you think I wouldn't know that?”
Henrietta, who hadn't expected her daughter to learn about the incident, stood in stunned silence.
“The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but at least I'm better than you! The men I'm with have money
and looks, while you shamelessly throw yourself at any Tom, Dick, or Harry!” Milana added, venting all
her frustration onto her mother.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Zachary had just finished his shower.
He walked up to his sister and ruffled her hair lovingly. “I'm going to bed now. Behave yourself, okay?”
“Okay!” Rory replied, knowing she had been on her best behavior the entire day.
Then, Zachary looked up bashfully at Avery and asked, “M-Ms. Ery, will I see you in the morning when I
wake up? You won't sneak away, will you?”
Almost immediately, Avery felt a burning gaze trained on her. Even without turning around, she knew it
was Cayden standing behind her.
I want to spend more time with the kids, but only if Cayden gives the green light. Otherwise, I'll have to
do it secretly. After all, the kids are about to start school.
With that, she patted Zachary's head. “I won't.”
“Okay. Goodnight, Ms. Ery!” Zachary muttered before planting a kiss on Avery's cheek and dashing
back to his room.
Rory continued to tug and swing Avery's hand, insisting that the latter slept with her that night. As long
as Avery was agreeable, it wouldn't matter if Cayden approved or not.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Rory's bed's too small. The two of you can sleep in my room,” Cayden finally replied.
Naturally, Avery had no objections to that. She had seen Rory's bed before and knew it could only
accommodate one child. There was just no way for her to squeeze into it.
The next second, Cayden took out a fresh shirt and pants and handed them to Avery. “You can wear
these after your shower.”
“Thank you,” Avery answered. She was grateful that he had lent his clothes to her and even more
grateful that he had allowed her to sleep with Rory.
I can't believe he's giving us his bed while he sleeps in Rory's. Given his height and long limbs, I'm sure
he won't be comfortable in that tiny bed. Gosh. How is he going to stretch his arms or legs?
It was already late by the time Avery finished taking her shower and drying her hair. She quickly sorted
the family's clothes by color and washed them in separate loads before chucking them all into the
dryer.
When she finally brought the dried laundry out to the living room, Cayden stood behind her without a
word. As usual, it didn't take long for Avery to feel his eyes burning into her. “I'll iron the clothes for you
in the morning,” she said as she smoothed her shirt.
“It's okay. Sleep early,” Cayden replied, a tinge of concern in his voice.
Avery pulled her fingers away from her shirt and turned to look at him. “You too. Goodnight...”
Cayden said nothing else as he watched her leave.
The men's shirt and pants were baggy on her, which helped to accentuate the slenderness and beauty
of her neck. It was, without a doubt, quite a sight.
Avery walked into the bedroom and promptly shut the door.
Upon getting into bed, she was surprised to see that Rory still hadn't fallen asleep.
The little girl had held on to her last shred of wakefulness and snuggled into Avery's arms. “Ms. Ery,
you're back.”
Avery had no choice but to hug Rory and let the kid cuddle up to her.
Just then, the bedroom door suddenly opened, and Cayden walked in wearing a dark-colored robe that
accentuated his lean, muscular figure. After turning off the lights, he swiftly walked to the other side of
the bed and climbed under the blanket, leaving Avery utterly speechless.
