Xavier sent his employer back to the mansion before leaving.
Once Cayden returned home, he heard Avery's voice. “Let me go! I want to leave this place!”
“Ms. Rumpley, Mr. Cayden has told us not to let you leave unless we have his permission,” came the housekeeper's
voice.
Cayden quickened his pace.
It was then he saw Avery, who was clad in thin clothing standing by the entrance of the living room as she
confronted two housekeepers.
Cayden's heart ached when he saw how adamant she was about leaving.
“Avery,” he called out to her.
Upon turning around, Avery realized it was Cayden. Tears sprang to her eyes and nearly rolled down her cheeks.
Instantly, she turned away from him to stop looking at him.
She knew that things would not work between the two of them, but her heart still lurched when she saw him return.
Nevertheless, she did everything she could to remind herself that she must not turn back.
Cayden's sharp gaze landed on Avery's stiff back.
His sigh was almost inaudible.
Even though Avery was not looking at him, she still felt nervous.
His long gaze was burning a hole in her back, and she could almost sense his wrath.
Avery lowered her head bitterly. Yes, he's the one who should be the angriest at me.
A beat later, Cayden walked over to her and pull her petite body into his arms.
When he glanced at the cold food at the side, his gaze turned sharp. “Has she not had her lunch today?”

continued, “Mrs. Moore said that she wasn't hungry today.”
Cayden's tone took on a berating quality. “What are you people doing?”
The two housekeepers clamped their mouths shut, too frightened by his stern tone to even take a breath.
Even though Avery was the one who did not want to have lunch, they did not dare to say anything to Cayden.
After taking a glance at the displeased Cayden, the other housekeeper, Lorraine, immediately apologized, “Sorry,
Mr. Cayden, this is our fault.”
Even though they were aggrieved by the situation, they did not utter a word of protest at Cayden's wrath.
They were housekeepers handpicked by Xavier under Cayden's order after the fire incident. Besides, they had gone
through years of training and were far more graceful and capable than ordinary housekeepers.
However, Avery was not happy that the housekeepers were getting chided because of her, so she said, “Cayden,
this has nothing to do with them. This is my fault. I didn't want to have lunch, so don't put them in a tight spot
because of that.”
Cayden's grave expression relaxed a little before he reached out to pinch her earlobe. “You're not a kid anymore.
Why are you still acting like one? Even if you don't want to eat, you should do that for the baby in you. He'll be upset
with you if you starve him.”
“That has nothing to do with you!” Avery could not stand Cayden's intimate acts. Her determined stance was
wavering when his gentle words traveled into her ears.
She turned away, not wanting to look at his attractive face.
At that, a smile curled on Cayden's lips. He gently slid his hand across her stomach as he said, “You're my wife, and
the baby in you is mine. This baby is the proof of our love, so how can you say that this has nothing to do with me,
hm?”
Reading the room, the two housekeepers quickly made themselves scarce. “Mr. Cayden, we'll bring the dishes into
the kitchen to reheat them.”
With that said, they took a tray and put the dishes on it before leaving the room to make space for the two people.
In no time, only Avery and Cayden were the only ones left in the spacious area.
Feeling awkward, Avery turned to leave as well, but Cayden pulled her over to make her sit on his lap. “Where are
you going?”
“I want to go back,” Avery quietly said.
She kept her hands against his chest to stop him from getting any closer to him.
However, he tightened his grip around her waist as a tinge of tension seeped into his hoarse voice, “Go back? Back
where?”
Avery bit her lower lip and blinked several times. “I'm going to look for Grandpa and Aunt Alina. That's where my
home is. I...”
Before she could finish her sentence, Cayden grabbed her chin and sealed her cherry-colored lips with his lips. His
aggressive tongue was invading her mouth. He made it hard for Avery to breathe, and she nearly passed out from
his rough kissing.
In the midst of her daze, a sudden pang of pain came from her mouth.
Then, a metallic tang filled her mouth. It seemed like her tongue was bleeding.
It was only then Cayden let go of Avery. While there was tenderness, aggression, and love in his eyes, there was

Avery covered her mouth as she looked at the man “tormenting” her in disbelief. Her heart had leaped to her
throat, but she did not dare to speak.
Cayden's punishment meant that he was in a terrible mood.
“You're not allowed to say such things in the future,” Cayden uttered after the rough kiss. After a tap on Avery's lips,
he continued, “If you don't behave yourself, or if you do something to make me angry, I'll do this to make you keep
quiet.”
Tears welled up in Avery's eyes. In the end, she sighed and mumbled under her breath, “My existence is nothing but
a burden to you. Cayden, you deserve a woman who's a better match for you. I admit that I shouldn't have called
off the engagement in public, but I'm doing it for your sake. You have no idea the torment I'm going through...”
Forcing her to look at him, Cayden said, “Did you call off the engagement because of that disk?”
Avery snapped her head upward in shock. “How... How did you know about the disk?”
Cayden heaved a sigh before poking her head, seemingly angry at her and at himself. “You silly girl, why didn't you
tell me about this? Am I so unimportant to you that you won't tell me anything even if it means enduring something
this horrible? Or do you think I'm not capable enough to handle something like this?”
The upset feelings that had been accumulating within Avery threatened to pour out of her. Shaking her head
vigorously, she uttered, “You don't know anything. The disk that the woman gave to me has detailed records of
your bribery. If I didn't do as she ordered then, she'd show the disk to the world. Not only will you fall from grace
when that happens, but you'll even go to jail. You're the man I love most, so how can I watch you go through all
that? I want to do something for you, but there's nothing I can do at all... I'm sorry...”
Avery forced her emotions in check as she helplessly squeezed out those anguishing words.
With his arms wrapped around her, Cayden suddenly laughed. “This is trivial. Look at you. You've got tears all over
your face. You're breaking my heart. Don't you worry. I have a way to deal with this.”
