Chapter 663 Furious
Avery was stunned by Claire's words, her complex gaze deeply fixed on Claire's angry face.
In truth, she had always been puzzled. Why has Claire's attitude toward me shifted from initial hostility to excessive
enthusiasm now?
Now, I fully understand the reason.
It's because Claire found out that I'm her biological daughter. So, is this out of her guilt, or a desire to make
amends?
Upon seeing Avery staring intently at her, Claire suddenly realized what she had blurted out.
Claire couldn't hide her embarrassment. “Ery, don't overthink things right now. It's most important for you to focus
on your postpartum recovery. Do you want some water? Let me pour you a glass.”
After Claire finished speaking, she got up and walked to the table, pouring a cup of hot water for Avery.
Even though Claire maintained a calm facade, the trembling liquid in the clear glass revealed her true nervousness.
When Avery noticed that Claire deliberately changed the subject, the tension that had just risen in Avery's heart was
immediately alleviated considerably.
I don't understand why Claire refuses to reunite with me, knowing I'm her daughter.
But at this moment, Avery truly had no inclination to acknowledge her relationship with others.
“Ery, take some painkillers. Your wound must still be hurting, right?” Claire took out the painkiller that the nurse had
brought and unwrapped it before handing it to Avery. “Taking this painkiller will make you feel much better. I tested
the water temperature a while ago. It's the perfect temperature now.”
Claire held Avery's hand and placed it in her own palm. She looked at the latter with a doting smile, and a hint of
satisfaction flashed across her eyes.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtClaire handed the warm water to Avery.
Avery, suppressing the indescribable emotions welling up within her, grabbed the painkiller and popped it into her
mouth. She took the warm water handed over by Claire and took the pill along with a sip of water.
After Avery finished taking her medicine, Claire helped her lie down on the bed and covered her with the blanket
considerately. “Ery, you rest for a while. I'm going to make a phone call outside.”
Then, Claire gently patted the twins' little heads. Once the two little ones obediently nodded, she reminded them to
take good care of their mother before turning around and leaving.
Avery looked at Claire's gentle back, feeling her eyes getting watery.
Claire truly was a meticulous and caring mother. Avery had once been filled with envy and yearned for such familial
affection. Now, having lost her love, she craved this kind of familial bond even more.
However, until their relationship was clearly defined, Claire's care for Avery seemed somewhat unjustified.
What has it come to when the state secretary's wife spends her entire day caring for me at the hospital?
These past few days, Avery had not been oblivious to the idle gossip spread by the nurses during their chit-chat.
However, Avery was so engrossed in the news of Cayden's accident that she couldn't pull herself out of it. She was
desperate for someone's care and selfishly chose to ignore those words. But now, she had completely come to her
senses.
Avery thought to herself that she needed to grow up and mature quickly. She couldn't overly rely on Claire.
Otherwise, once dependency became an addiction, it would be hard to quit when the time comes.
In a secluded corridor at the hospital, Claire dialed Allie's phone number. Unaware of what Allie was doing on the
other end, it took Allie quite a while to answer the call.
“Hello?” Allie's voice carried a tone of impatience.
“Allie, I never imagined that this is how you've been treating my biological daughter all these years! Since you took
her away, why didn't you treat her well? I can't imagine how much hardship my poor daughter has suffered at your
hands. You're so heartless! I won't say much about other things for now. Ery is now your daughter-in-law, and I have
no choice but to accept it... But it's one thing for you to treat her poorly on a regular basis, now she's given birth to
a child for the Moore family, and you, as a mother-in-law, haven't even visited her and the child in the hospital.
That's your grandchild!” Claire was filled with rage, her voice roaring out into the phone.
Allie disdainfully said, “Claire, are you done? Do you think I want that jinx Avery to be my daughter-in-law? Look at
your so-called daughter, who has a face that brings bad luck to her husband. I knew she wouldn't bring good
fortune to Cayden. Sure enough, not long after she got married to him, he had an accident. If I had known this
would happen, I would have done everything to stop Cayden from marrying that woman! Anyway, now that Cayden
has been jinxed to death by her, if you want to keep the grandson she left behind, take that unlucky girl back to the
Lambert residence. Our family can't handle such a jinx!”
Claire trembled with anger at Allie's words. She retorted, “Allie, you are truly shameless! Your son's misfortune was
merely a coincidence. He's just unlucky. What does that have to do with my daughter? Don't you dare pin all these
baseless accusations on Avery! Moreover, she has given birth to three children for the Moore family. Without Ery,
your lineage would have ended long ago, Allie! And let me tell you, I will take my daughter back to the Lambert
residence. As for her children, they are my daughter's flesh and blood, and my own grandchildren. They naturally
belong to our family as well. I will take them all with me. We, the Lambert family, can afford to raise these
children!”
Upon hearing these words, Allie really blew her top. Like a shrew, she started scolding Claire over the phone.
“Shame on you! Tell me, Claire, have you lost all your shame? Those children belong to my son! Their last name is
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMoore, not Lambert! What gives you the right to take them away?”
Claire snickered coldly. Her words were succinct yet threatening. “Allie, your capable son is no longer here. Do you
think the Moore family still has the power to compete with the Lambert family? Let me tell you, it's only a matter of
time before Will and I reclaim Avery. Considering our past friendship, I advise you to treat her well as long as she's
in the Moore residence. Otherwise, I won't hold back! By then, don't expect to see your grandson again! I mean
what I say!”
On the other end of the call, the arrogant voice of Allie gradually subsided. “Claire, if you dare touch my grandson, I
will fight you to the death!”
“Then brace yourself for the legal proceedings. I will certainly help my daughter to fight for the custody of her
children. Let's see who dares to take your case and dares to confront the Lambert family!” With these chilling
words, Claire hung up the phone.
Claire could imagine how Allie, on the other end of the phone, must be fuming with rage at this moment. However,
she didn't care.
Allie disregarded our friendship and forced me to be separated from my biological child for over twenty years. So
why should I tolerate her now?
Avery is a soft-spoken person, completely out of tune with a woman like Allie who is brash, rude, and unreasonable.
Well, let me play the villain then!
Avery stayed in the hospital for about five days before she returned to the new home she shared with Cayden for
her postpartum recovery.
Jeffrey had hired four very experienced nannies for Avery. Two of them were specifically tasked with preparing
nutritious meals for Avery, while the other two would take turns looking after Cal day and night. Therefore, during
Avery's postpartum recovery period, she was quite relaxed.
However, an unexpected piece of unfortunate news from the company made the already shaky group even more
challenging to handle.
Avery's position as the acting CEO was already precarious. And now, she could be dismissed at any moment...
