Aurelia continued, "But that's just not possible. Why on earth would someone masquerade as Raines?" Her mind was a storm cloud of suspicion, dark and brooding, threatening to burst at any moment.
Leopold glittered his deep eyes mysteriously under the lamplight, an intense and penetrating gaze.

"Maybe you should check if Chad has any other illegitimate kids out there around Skyler's age." Leopold caught on to her drift, lifted a mug from the coffee table, and took a sip of tea, "I'll have someone look into it." After a moment of reflection, Aurelia murmured, "You weren't born yet. Your mother might know more." Leopold choked on his tea. He didn't relish the thought of dredging up his mother's painful memories, but confronting her directly might indeed cut the work in half.
The next day, after breakfast, he joined Jessica for a stroll in the garden.
"Leopold, are you still questioning Raines’ identity? What have you found?" "Nothing yet." Leopold briefly shared the details of the paternity test with Jessica. Then he asked, "Do you think Chad might have other bastards, the sage as our cousin?" Jessica fell silent. After a long pause, she spoke in a low voice, "When | married into the Stirling family, | brought an assistant with me, Hailey. She was fair, clean-cut, and dimpled with every smile. Your father had a taste for that kind. | remember one Christmas, | returned to Eastwood Heights. Hailey, being sick, didn't accompany me. Imagine my shock when | cback to find her in bed with your father." She paused, a look of disgust crossing her face, "I had her sent back to Eastwood Heights, and then she disappeared without a trace." A cynical glint flashed in Leopold's eyes, "If she had a child, she probably wouldn't dare bring it back to the Stirling family to claim its heritage. Was Tanya around then?" Jessica replied, "She cafter that Christmas. If there's such a child, he or she would be about Skyler's age." Leopold darkened his gaze, as if clouds had gathered in his eyes.
He would have his uncle thoroughly investigate Hailey.
Sheryl sneaked back to Elysium and, in disguise, visited Conningsby Hospital.
Megan was arguing with a nurse, "I'm not crazy. | want to see my mom, letout!" Sheryl entered. Having bribed the doctor, she wanted a private word with Megan.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter the nurse left, she closed the door of the room.
"Megan, | know you're not insane." She said, removing her wig and mask.
Megan recognized her. "Sheryl? Why are you here to see me?" Sheryl responded nonchalantly, "I was passing by and thought, as your former family, | should check on you." Megan tugged at her disheveled hair, "You must be on the outs with Aurelia to think of visiting me, right?" Sheryl spoke slowly, "Aurelia's on cloud nine now. Not only has she remarried Leopold, but she's also the head of the Stirling household, calling all the shots. And you? You're locked up in here. How the mighty have fallen." A muscle twitched on Megan's face, "That wretch. | curse her to be soon discarded by Leopold and to die a pauper." Sheryl continued, "Actually, | know you were set up by Aurelia. She framed you, smeared your name, and even made Leopold believe you were so unfaithful that your child wasn't his. Then, Leopold turned his affection to disgust..." Megan clutched her head, her thoughts suddenly a whirlwind of confusion.
She remembered Kevin telling her that Leopold had never married her or even touched her. It was someone else who had been with her and her child wasn't Leopold's.
Could it be that her memory failed her? Was it all just an illusion?
