"Geoffrey must think he's hot stuff. Acts like we're all a bunch of dimwits, easy to fool," remarked Aurelia with a roll of her eyes.
Skyler nodded in agreement, "He's always had this air about him like he's the king of the castle. Whenever we'd play video games and I'd win, he'd throw a real fit, threatening to put a spider in my bed. So, | just started throwing the games, letting him win." Aurelia patted Skyler on the shoulder, "You're smart, Skyler. Smartest one among us." Hearing Aurelia’s praise, Skyler grinned widely. He always loved it when Aurelia complimented him.
Whispers began to circulate in the high society circles that the culprit behind the attempt on Leopold's life had been secretly caught, a mercenary named Geoffrey.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAurelia suspected it was a deliberate leak, a way for certain individuals to clear their names.
Leopold had blood tests done on the mercenary, revealing traces of Shadow Venom in his system.
He had Kevin hook the guy up to a lie detector.
"I've got the antidote for Shadow Venom right here," Leopold offered his voice cold, "Spill the beans, and it's yours." The mercenary was silent for a long stretch, then murmured low, "I'll tell you everything." That evening, Leopold was driving with Aurelia, cruising down the highways with the moonroof open.
Both of them were wearing lifelike masks, no chance of being recognized by snosy passerby.
"Actually, the fall guy Geoffrey set up was pretty convincing. At least he really was allergic to silver." Leopold mused darkly, "That might be, but it doesn't get us any closer to the real Geoffrey," Aurelia retorted, her lips twisted in disdain.
Leopold squinted, a chilling sharpness in his gaze, "The one keeping him in the shadows is Tanya. It's not his choice to be a shadow." "True that. Who'd want to live like someone's shadow? Tanya was premature when she had the baby, wasn't she? Probably been frail since day one, so Tanya kept him hidden," Aurelia said with a touch of mockery, "It's like the pot calling the kettle black. Tanya's been holding a grudge against Chad every day, hell-bent on revenge against her sister, Jessica. It's like she opened the door wide to crazy town." She paused, lowering her voice, "I think it's a personality disorder. She's probably got this paranoid streak, and it's hereditary, passed it right on to Geoffrey." She couldn't fathom what on earth was so enchanting about Chad, the kind of lowlife that could drive Tanya to such depths of obsession, to the point of harming her sister Jessica and nephew Leopold.
If it had been her, she'd have kicked him to the curb, out of the galaxy, long ago.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLeopold spoke softly, "Grandpa originally wanted Tanya to marry into the Stirling family. He was more fond of Mom and wanted to keep her close. But my grandparents took a shine to my mom, and insisted on marrying my mom into the family." "Must've been the root of Tanya's bitterness," Aurelia mused, pursing her lips, "She probably had her eyes set on Chad, following him to Elysium just to seduce him." Chad had a reputation for never turning away company, and Aurelia seriously suspected he was a sex addict.
It was a condition, treatable, and hereditary.
Luckily, Arnold, Leopold, and Skyler had dodged that bullet, spared from inheriting that dreadful gene.
Frederick got a touch of it, but he was a notch above Chad, at least.
A thought struck Aurelia, and she whispered, "Leopold, do you think Geoffrey has kids? Skyler thinks he's an eight-year-old with no clue about sex. But Geoffrey's a grown man. He can't be without a woman, right?" Leopold thought and said, "You could try asking Skyler. We know next to nothing about Geoffrey, and Skyler's the one who knows him best." Aurelia nodded and resolved to inquire the next day.
A peculiar idea began to take shape in her mind. To Tanya and Geoffrey, Megan's child might be nothing more than a pawn in a gof deception - perhaps they would switch Megan's child with Geoffrey's, if he had one.
