Chapter 516

“You don’t need to thank me. I was just the person who brought you here. If Mr. Sabatini says he can heal your

hands, he is confident in healing you.” Then Calvin casually asked while driving, “When did you hurt your fingers?”

“Almost four years ago,” replied Rosalie.

Calvin knew four years ago was about the time Rosalie was sent to jail. He probed, “Someone hurt you while you

were in prison?”

Rosalie was silent and didn’t say anything, but her expression had already given Calvin the necessary answer.

“Who is it? Who hurt you this way?” There was a trace of anger in Calvin’s voice. He wondered who was the person

who treated Rosalie so cruelly.

Although he knew she had been in jail before this, he didn’t think much about what she had experienced during her

imprisonment.

But it was not until today that he realized she had suffered so much.

Rosalie said lightly, “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Who is it?” Calvin asked again.

“Even if I tell you who these people were, what’s the point? Can you let them bear all the pain I have suffered

before?”

“Why not?” A malicious glint flashed across Calvin’s eyes. He would ensure these people who wronged her back

then would experience the pain that Rosalie had been through.

Stunned, Rosalie looked at Calvin with a shocked expression.

The car stopped at the intersection while waiting for the red light to turn green. Calvin turned his head, gazing at

Rosalie earnestly. “I meant my words. If you want to let those who hurt you suffer, I can help you. No matter who

the other person is, I’ll exact revenge for you!”

“His eyes and words tell me that Calvin is being serious right now!” Rosalie thought.

Rosalie felt the urge to cry. The memory of a familiar boy sprawling across her back, telling her, “I… I’m a powerful

man! I’ll protect you after we leave this place. I’ll make sure to chase away those people who bullied you!” flashed

across her mind.

She pursed her dry lips. “No need. It’s all in the past now.”

Yvette and Zachary represented the Hamilton family and the Xanthos family. Although they were not as powerful as

the Gunner family, dealing with them was not easy.

Besides, she didn’t want to owe Calvin any more favors because she didn’t want to get entangled with the man any

further.

Seeing this, Calvin pursed his lips and didn’t say anything more.

When the car arrived at the restaurant entrance, Calvin invited, “Why don’t we have a meal here? You treated me

last time, and it’s my turn today.”

This restaurant was a time-honored brand of Strico. It wasn’t a high-class eatery, but it had elegant decorations.

Rosalie noticed Calvin had ordered pancake, a specialty in Strico when the waiter served the dishes.

She stared at the pancakes and couldn’t help but think of the time when Calvin and she were hungry on the

mountain. He told her, “I’ll buy pancakes for you in the future. The pancakes in Strico are really delicious!”

At that time, she lived in a small town with Wilma, and Strico was unfamiliar to her.

“What’s wrong? Why are you staring at the pancakes?” Calvin said, “Their pancakes are scrumptious, and it’s their

specialty. No one else can make it like them. I’ve loved them since I was young.”

Rosalie murmured, “I have eaten it before. It’s true… It’s delicious.”

But then, she didn’t remember him or the agreements they had made as children.

Rosalie picked up a piece of pancake and began to eat. She mused, “Let’s eat with Cal today like what we promised

each other back in the day. If I find myself in Strico one day, he will treat me to a lot of delicious food.”

Underneath the night sky, a Maserati approached a residential area slowly before finally stopping at the gate, and

Rosalie alighted from the car. She had only taken a few steps when Calvin called out to her.

“Wait!” He caught up with Rosalie and handed her a takeout box. “It’s the pancake. I noticed you were quite fond of

them, so I ordered another one to take away.”

Rosalie pursed her lips slightly and took it. “Thank you.” Perhaps it was because there were pancakes inside, which

made her unable to refuse his gesture.

It was like she couldn’t resist the young Calvin finishing his promise from back then.

But when she took the box, Calvin wrapped his hands around hers as his gaze fell on them. “You suffered a lot back

then.”

Her body trembled, “It’s all in the past.”

“If only I had known you earlier,” he murmured, “That way, you wouldn’t have suffered.”

It was the first time he was distressed over a woman that he wanted to endure the suffering for her.

Her case was just gossip news for him all those years ago. If the deceased weren’t Jonathan’s fiancée and the

eldest daughter of the Hamilton family, the information wouldn’t have stayed in his mind at all.

How was Calvin supposed to know back then that the woman sentenced to three years in jail would be the love of

his life?

If he had known it earlier, he would have spared no effort to protect her from grievances or torture.

Rosalie looked at Calvin, stupefied. She mused, “We… knew each other long ago. It’s just that I didn’t remember

you… If I had recovered my memory before the car accident, you would have helped me because you are Cal! You

are the Cal who sticks with me through thick and thin.”

“Thank you…” She mumbled. Rosalie also apologized to Calvin inwardly, for she had hidden the truth from him. She

didn’t tell him she was the girl he was looking for because she knew she couldn’t give him the love he wanted.

Not far away, in a black sedan, Carlos felt the air pressure drop instantly and started having difficulty breathing.

He cautiously looked at Jonathan in the back seat through the rearview mirror.

Currently, Jonathan was looking at the scene outside. Although his face had no expression, Jonathan’s aura was

enough to make Carlos feel like something terrible was about to happen.

Carlos couldn’t help but complain inwardly, “Mr. Youngblood waited here for Rosalie to come back every day, but he

won’t get out of the car to see her. Sometimes, he would even stay in this residential area until midnight. I really

don’t know what’s going through his mind!”
