Chapter - 84
Alex spent the rest of the evening playing games on his phone or surfing the internet watching videos and stuff. It was around eight in the evening that Martha called for him, asking him to come downstairs for dinner.
Alex didn’t know if his father was back or not, but if he was back, Martha would have told him all about what happened in the afternoon. While Martha was the one who never believed in stretching a matter, George, on the other hand, won’t stop reminding Alex about this afternoon until either of them are in their grave.
Still he can’t just spend his days cooped up in his room, Alex went downstairs hearing Martha’s call. As he climbed down the stairs, he looked around to spot his father, but George was nowhere to be seen.
"Mom, where is dad?" Alex asked as he sat down at the dining table.
"Your father won't be coming home today. He has some important matters to attend to," Martha told him as he served him food.
"What's so important that he forgot to mention about it in the morning?" Alex asked.
"Well, it was something which came at the very last moment. He just called me," Martha said as she sat down next to him.
Alex smiled as he leaned forward towards Martha, "Mom, I think you need to tighten your leash around him. Maybe he is..." Alex whispered to Martha. His words clearly indicated that Alex was talking about George having an affair.
"Don't spout nonsense. You are the one I need to tighten my leash around. Going wild like a bull in broad daylight," Martha said and didn't forget to taunt Alex.
"Well... Whatever, at least unlike other days he is working. I used to think that he went to the company just to laze around". Alex said.
"Shhh... don't talk about your father like that," Martha said, pinching his arm.
"Ouch... I am just joking with you. Don't be so possessive of your husband," Alex snarled at her.
"Focus on your food," Martha said, "I don't have time to fool around with you."
"C'mon, don't be a sulker. I was just joking about your dear old husband," Alex said as he looked at Martha.
"It's not about that. I have to go back to the hospital after dinner," Martha told him.
"Why?" Alex asked.
"I need to follow up with the patient I operated on in the afternoon," Martha told Alex.
"Can't anyone else do it?" Alex asked, "You took a leave after so long yet couldn't enjoy a single moment."
"He is somewhat an important person," Martha said.
"Who is he? Is he someone high profile? Do I know him?" Alex asked, "Maybe the mayor?" Alex guessed.
"You don't need to know," Martha refused to tell him.
"Fine, I won't ask. But if you have operated on the guy. He will be fine," Alex said with confidence.
"But the thing is, you will be left alone tonight. Will you be able to manage on your own? Or... Should I call Margaret to take care of you?" Martha teased.
"MOM! will you stop bringing her back and again in the conversation? Moreover, I am old enough to manage on my own. No need for a babysitter for me," Alex grumbled.
"Suit yourself. I gave you the chance. It's your loss. Anyways, I am done, so I will be going now, and there is no need for you to the dishes, just leave them as it is," Martha said as she put her bag over her shoulder.
"Okay, I won't".
"And don't stay up late."
"Mom! why are you nagging me so much today?" Alex was irritated now.
"I have to. My son is finally hitting puberty," Martha made a run out of the house as she teased Alex.
"MOMM!!!"

When Martha stepped out of her car, she was greeted by a man outside the building.
"Maam! You are here. Let me carry the bag for you," The man said and extended her hand to get the bag from Martha.
"Why are you waiting for me outside, Matthew?" Martha asked the man named Matthew.
"Sir, asked me to wait for you here," Matthew was very respectful to Martha.
"I know my way around here. You should know that," Martha said, handing over her bag to the
"How can I forget that, ma'am. I am just following orders," Matthew said with a smile.
"Always sticking to orders, huh. You haven't changed a bit. Lead the way," Martha said. She was happy to see Matthew.
"Please," Matthew said and walked in front while Martha followed, walking a step behind him.

Surfing through the channels, Alex was getting bored. He was going to be home alone tonight.
'Should I watch Home Alone tonight? I haven't binged Loki yet? Then there is Money Heist as well. Aunhh... There is so much to watch, but I am all alone,' Alex thought as he finally turned off the television, 'I wish someone was here.' Alex looked at the empty couch beside him and thought.
'Should I go call Margaret over?'
'Don't know if she will come.'
'But there is no one else.'
'Hey... there is one thing I can do,' Alex finally had a brilliant idea strike his brain, 'My bike, my beloved motorbike, my awesome motorcycle. Didn't I ask that skinny thing to drop it at Margaret's? That's the perfect excuse."
Having thought of the excuse, Alex jumped from the couch and made his way out, but just as he opened the door, he was pleasantly surprised, and a smile bloomed on his face.

(A/N: Since there is no option for me to write an author's note, I will have to write it at the end of the chapter and I will try to keep it short.
First of all, thank you for the support you guys have shown to the story. Even I know that the story is far from being dynamic and spontaneous right now, but you guys are giving it a shot all the same. I want to speed up the plot, but when I start writing, I can't help but feed in the details and emotions. I want my story to be urban-realistic and I feel like I have been able to do so, so far.. Thank you for your support, and keep reading the story to pass your time.)
