Chapter 1852
Bertha was at her wits’ end. She had tried every trick in the book to wake up her blissfully ignorant husband. “Fine! I
wash my hands of you! Go ahead and save your precious princess! Give me back my daughter!”
With that, she swooped her daughter out of Thaddeus’ arms and stormed out of the elevator as soon as the doors
slid open.
Thaddeus hastened to catch up with her. “Bertha! What do you want me to do? I can’t just abandon my own
daughter!”
Bertha took a deep breath as disappointment clouded her face. “Go ahead and take care of your golden girl. Lea

what she sows. You can deal with her misdeeds alone!”
Thaddeus was helpless. “Bertha, Sophia isn’t as bad as you make her out to be.”
Unable to bear it any longer, Bertha stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes were alight with anger as she stared at
Thaddeus. “Hasn’t she done enough? She nearly scarred Ellinor for life with sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid! Your
daughter resorts to such extreme measures when she doesn’t get her way; isn’t that bad in your eyes?
Maybe in your eyes, only your daughter’s safety matters. The safety of others doesn’t mean a thing to you, right?
Thaddeus, why should your daughter get away with harming others?
Ellinor saved my life. I owe her everything. Even if you don’t care, I do. I can’t live with you anymore. Go save
Sophia. Once she’s safe, let’s finalize our divorce,”
Thaddeus was at a loss for words. He knew Sophia was in the wrong, but as a father, he couldn’t bring himself to
abandon her.
“Bertha, are you forcing me to choose between you and Sophia?!”
“I’m not forcing you to choose. Lea and I will step out of your life so you can continue pandering to your daughter.”
A shadow of worry creased Thaddeus’ brow. He had to concede. “I’ll just go to the police station to see Sophia. I
promise not to interfere with the police’s handling of her case. Bertha, just let me see her. She’s never been
through anything like this. I’m afraid she might be terrified.”
Before Bertha could respond, Lea laughed coldly. “Dad! You’re so blinded by love for Sophia that you can’t even
think clearly. She had the guts to throw acid at someone. She’s not easily scared. She’s braver than all of us!”
“Lea, she’s still your sister.”

Thaddeus fell silent.
Realizing that her husband might not help Sophia, Bertha decided to compromise. “If you won’t cover for her, Lea
and I will accompany you to the police station.”
Thaddeus nodded as a mix of emotions washed over his face. “OK, I won’t do anything. I just want to see her.”
Lea added, “Dad, keep your word, or I’ll lose all respect for you.”
Thaddeus sighed. He felt truly helpless. He had been around the block a few times, and yet here he was, failing as a
father and being disrespected by his younger daughter.
Who was to blame?
At the police station.
After explaining their situation to the officer on duty, the family was led to the place where the criminals were held.
