Chapter 2038
The makeup artist had her mind set: there had to be a scandal brewing between the two of them, and no amount
of explanation would change her conviction.
The others on set, though silent, seemed to tacitly agree with the makeup artist’s suspicions.
It is human nature, after all. People love to indulge in juicy, taboo gossip, even when it is entirely unfounded.
“Alright, enough,” Colton announced, breaking through the whispers and murmurs. “I’ve said all there is to say. The
innocent have nothing to hide. Let’s break it up, folks. We’re on the clock here, and the shoot starts promptly.”
Colton’s words were the final say despite lingering doubts and sideways glances. No one dared to question further,
and they dispersed to their respective duties.

looking back.
Once everyone had cleared out, Colton let out a weary sigh. “Ivy, I’m sorry for the mess. I could have handled
things better. But don’t you worry. If you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve got nothing to fear from shadows.”
Ivy managed a wry smile. “Director, I’m afraid I’ve brought you into this. Had you not cast me as the lead, none of
this would’ve happened.”
Colton was unwavering. “I chose you because you’re perfect for the role,” he insisted, even amid the drama. “Let
them talk. Their words will crumble when they see your performance.”
With no better way to prove her innocence, Ivy nodded in agreement. “I’ll do my best, director.”
“Good. I’ve got my assistant scouting for a new makeup artist. It might take a bit of time. Use it to get ready; we’ll
start as soon as you’re prepped,” Colton said, then left Ivy to her thoughts.
Alone in the makeup room, Ivy opened her script to study her lines.
Everyone doubted her ability to bring the character in ‘Ballad of Valor’ to life. She was determined to prove them
wrong.
An hour later, a new makeup artist arrived and quickly got Ivy camera-ready.
With Colton’s guidance and her own thorough preparation, the shooting went much smoother.
As the day progressed, Ivy felt her anxiety ease and grew more comfortable in her role.
At the end of a long day, Ivy collapsed into her hotel bed and drifted off into a deep sleep. She awoke groggily to
missed calls from Balfour on her phone.
Rubbing her eyes, she sat up and texted back, [Sorry, fell asleep. What’s up?]

[Open the door.]
Confused by the brevity of the message, it took her a moment to process, but she eventually got up and opened
her hotel room door to find Balfour standing there.
“You… how are you… here?” Ivy stammered, surprised to see her unexpected visitor.
Balfour revealed a half-smile, lifting the bag he carried. “Had some business nearby. Thought I’d check on you.”
“Oh,” Ivy muttered, still a bit dazed from sleep.
He walked into the room and set his bag on the table. “Heard from Colton you skipped dinner. Picked up something
on the way. Eat up.”
“Um… you seem to know everything, huh?” lyy said as she sat down, opening the container to reveal a hearty,
delicious meal. Balfour simply took a seat, remaining quiet. He had not planned on coming, but after hearing from
Colton that Ivy’s day had been rough, he felt compelled to visit.
