Steven found it hard to believe anyone could treat Annalise this well. At least, he knew he couldn't.
"Even if I leave anything for Willow, she's still too young to protect it. If someone with bad intentions gains custody of her, they could take all that money, leave her with nothing, and maybe even treat her terribly.
"That's why I would leave my assets to Annalise. I can trust her. I know she genuinely cares for Willow They'll have each other, and they'll be fine.". Zane had considered everything and thought of every contingency before deciding to be with Annalise.
After a long pause, Steven asked, "How do I know you actually mean it? How can I be sure you're not just saying it to mess with me?" Zane didn't force Steven to believe e him. Instead, he chuckled softly, his tone light as he replied, "You don't need to take my word for it. Just watch what I do." Steven realized Zane wasn't making offhand remarks-they were deeply considered, deliberate truths. And they stung.
Was this what it meant to truly love someone? To protect and plan for their future so thoughtfully? So, what did it mean back then when Steven divorced Annalise and left her with nothing? Alas, he didn't know what to say and could only awkwardly hang up the phone.
