Chapter 9
“Why would I be angry? Jocelyn shrugged off his hand and turned to face him, “I already know
everything he said.”
Melvin frowned, “Know what?”
“Our inability to part ways has nothing to do with love. So, I’m not angry.”
Jocelyn truly wasn’t angry. Instead of feeling angry, it was more like she could see things more clearly
now.
Melvin squinted at her. So you’re saying you’re cool with the way things are between us now?”
“Would you be standing here if I weren’t?” Jocelyn thought about it; she liked Melvin, and since she
couldn’t let go, so be
It
A little fling never hurt anybody.
Melvin raised an eyebrow, surprised but pleased.
He lifted her up and plunked her onto the bar, tilting her chin up, So what made you see the light all of a
sudden? Spill
Jocelyn lowered her long lashes, her cheeks turning a shade of pink as she locked eyes with him,
“Because you’re good
in bed.”
The moment she uttered those words, she saw the fiery look in Melvin’s eyes, his Adam’s apple
moving in a hard
swallow,
“Next time, when I’m ready to tie the knot, we’re done for real,” Jocelyn said with all sincerity.
She knew very well that the one she wanted to marry had always been him, from start to finish.
Melvin’s gaze lingered on her rosy lips, his fingers gently stroking them, “That time you said you
wanted to get married to some guy, that wasn’t to get a rise out of me, was it?”
Jocelyn’s eyes flitted about nervously, “If it’s the right fit, I would consider it. Ah…”
Melvin, pinching her at her most tender spot, his peach blossom eyes glinting with a vengeful light.
“You’re playing with
fire.
“Who knows, maybe you’ll be the one wanting to get hitched first,” Jocelyn said teasingly, her eyes

Melvin really had a thing for her seductive charm, always able to snag his soul.
He toyed with her sensitive spot, watching the mistiness in her eyes, his throat working. “I’m never
getting married in this lifetime. Swapping out women, now that’s a possibility.”
Jocelyn bit her lip, her voice sultry and soft, “How do you even have the audacity to say that?”
Such a playboy!
Melvin grasped her waist, Then don’t get married. I can keep you company for as long as you want to
play.”
Joclyn bit down on his neck hard
“Ouch…” Melvin hissed, “You trying to take a chunk out of me?”
Jocelyn didn’t let go until she tasted something metallic in her mouth, then she finally backed off.
Seeing the bite mark on his neck, she felt a rush of satisfaction.
Facing his slightly reddened eyes, she couldn’t help but smile smugly. “After all the good times, I’ve got
to leave you with something to remember me by.”
Melvin, still pinching her waist, his words through gritted teeth, “That possessive, huh?”
“Not allowed?”
“Allowed”

If it was about possessiveness, how could she ever outdo him?
Before Jocelyn could sense trouble, she was already hoisted over his shoulder.
Yep, hoisted.
In the bedroom, she was flung onto the bed, thankfully soft enough to cushion her fall
Jocelyn was halfway through her class when her mom called.
They usually wouldn’t disturb her at work unless it was urgent
Stepping outside to take the call, her expression turned grim instantly
Sorry guys. I have to take care of something. Continue with self-study
After that. Jocelyn hurried out of the classroom
Noticing her distress, Preston stealthily pulled out his hidden phone and shot Melvin a message.
Jocelyn hopped in a cab to the hospital and found Melvin there with her dad when she arrived at the
ward.
They both tumed at her entrance
Surprised to see Melvin there, it was her father who approached her, “What are you doing here?
Shouldn’t you be in class?
“Lila called me from mom’s phone and said she had a fall, Jocelyn rushed to her mother’s side, “Mom,
how are you?”
Daisy shook her head to reassure her, “I’m fine, really You all should get back to work or class.”
“I got a colleague to cover two classes. I’ll head back this afternoon. Dad, you…
Jocelyn glanced at Melvin.
Melvin was quiet, impeccably dressed in a suit, looking every inch the gentleman.
Mr. Martinez kindly brought me to the hospital. Otherwise, I’d have arrived much later than him, Calvin
was grateful to
Melvin.
Stay here with your mother until she’s discharged, then you can go back to work, Melvin’s voice was
deep and seductive, his tone soothing.
“Well. I suppose we’re in Mr. Martinez’s debt,” Calvin was moved, “Thank you, Mr. Martinez.
Melvin glanced at his watch, I’ve got to go, got things to take care of.”
Then I’ll leave you to it. Jocelyn, see Mr. Martinez out, will you?”
Jocelyn and Melvin left the ward, her trailing a step behind, “Thanks.”
Me in stopped and turned to her, “Verbal thanks mean nothing.
Jocelyn frowned.
This was a hospital, with people coming and going, what did he expect?
“I will fee’ your gratitude tonight, Melvin said, without his usual flirtation, and left.
Jocelyn returned to the ward, where her father was helping her mother drink water.
“Mr. Martinez left?”
“Yeah.”
Daisy remarked to Calvin, “Your boss seems to treat his employees pretty well
Calvin nodded, “When’t got the call, I went to ask for leave, and there was Mr. Martinez asking where i

we should go back to our hometown to see if we can get some specialties to give to him.
“Sure”
Listening to her parents’ conversation Jocelyn felt conflicted
After evening class, Jocelyn walked out of the school gates and saw Preston waiting
“Don’t worry, I won’t be crashing at your place for supper. Preston said disdainfully I can make instant
pasta myself.”
Then why don’t you head back?
“Are you alright? Preston asked with a touch of arrogance, his eyes wandering elsewhere. “You look
pale.”
Tm fine Jocelyn said puzzled “Are you actually concerned about me?”
Preston huffed “Don’t flatter yourself if the teacher’s not feeling well, how can she teach well, and how
can we rank
first?
Looking at his proud demeanor Jocelyn chuckled. You like Willow too, huh?
“Who even likes her Preston slung his backpack over his shoulder nose in the air, sneering. She’s just
a phony”
As long as you students clinch the top spot in our grade, Fill make sure you guys meet the goddess”
Jocelyn cheered
him on
Preston rolled his eyes so hard “Idiot he muttered and took off
Jocelyn was bewildered.
Why the heck was he cursing at her out of the blue? Did he even remember she’s the teacher?
Returning home, she found Melvin was out on the balcony on a phone call
She headed to the kitchen, whipped up a pizza and brought it out just as Melvin came in.
“Do you want some? Jocelyn offered
Melvin leaned in with his mouth open
She picked up a slice of pizza, and guided it towards his mouth.
He chomped down on half
Jocelyn waited for him to finish. Thanks for today, by the way”
Melvin went for the other half, chewing and talking Eat up, so you can properly thank me later
Jacelyn fell like his head wasn’t filled with brains, but with raging hormones.
