Chapter 401 - : Wei Zhiqian Felt Utterly InsultedChapter 401: Wei Zhiqian Felt Utterly Insulted
Ming Yeqing was even more surprised. He asked. “Brother Zhiqian, why are you here?”
Wei Zhiqian sneered.
‘Why am I here? As if you don’t know that already.’
“You two must be hungry, right?” Even though it was unforgivable to be so late, Tan Mo still thought on their behalf. “I’ll order two more dishes for you.”
“That’s okay, it’s getting late,” Qin Muye hurriedly said. “We didn’t expect the traffic to be so bad either. Fortunately, the family car is always stocked with my favorite snacks, so we ate quite a bit in the car.”
Wei Zhiqian suddenly recalled that even Qin Mufeng’s car had a lot of Qin Muye’s favorite snacks too. It was no surprise that the other cars in the Qin family would have her favorite snacks too.
In fact, Qin Muye was too afraid to tell the truth.
The two had stopped halfway and gone to a food truck nearby, where they chowed down a sumptuously spicy meal.
After eating and getting back in the car, they were so full that they were hiccupping the whole ride back.
There was no way they could stomach any more food.
“Sure, you can always order something if you’re hungry later,” Tan Mo said. “Shall we ask for the bill?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWei Zhiqian called the waiter over for the bill.
Upperclassman Cheng said shyly, “I had wanted to treat you to a meal today. Not only did that not happen, but I also ended up eating for free.”
“Don’t sweat it. My uncle was the one who insisted we eat with them. We barely had a choice.” It only made sense that he should be the one to pay.
Upon hearing Tan Mo say that, Wei Zhiqian paused as he was about to take out his money.
Tan Mo had never treated him so heartlessly.
It seemed like he meant nothing to her.
Wei Zhiqian felt a weight pressing against his chest. It was so suffocating that it hurt.
No matter how many deep breaths he took, he could not shake the feeling.
He had the urge to pummel his chest just to get rid of that pressing suffocation.
After the bill was paid, the group got up to leave.
Wei Zhiqian was about to call out to Tan Mo when Ming Yeqing stopped him. “Brother Zhiqian.”
Wei Zhiqian had not even settled things with the man yet, but Ming Yeqing came and initiated a conversation.
Wei Zhiqian stopped and turned around to see Ming Yeqing walking slowly toward him.
Qin Muye stood in front of Wei Zhiqian with an arm around Tan Mo as she apologized to her.
Meanwhile, Wen Nuanxin grabbed Upperclassman Cheng’s arm and struck up a conversation. God only knew what that woman was thinking.
Were they even close?
Of course not, but that did not stop Wen Nuanxin from gossiping and trying to find out what Wei Zhiqian majored in.
By the time Ming Yeqing finally walked up to Wei Zhiqian, Tan Mo and the rest of them had walked quite a distance.
“I haven’t even made you pay for what you did, yet you dare to come talk to me,” Wei Zhiqian seethed.
“Pay for what?” Ming Yeqing asked teasingly. “I haven’t done anything to get on your bad side lately.”
“Did you think Momo wouldn’t know?” Wei Zhiqian pursed his lips tightly. “You came late on purpose just to set her up with Upperclassman Cheng.”
“Is he not a good candidate?” Wei Zhiqian did not expect that Ming Yeqing would admit to it so bluntly. “Even though Momo is always in our lab, she rarely gets to talk to Upperclassman Cheng let alone knows the guy. If she got to know him better, she might find that he’s actually a pretty nice guy. Who knows? Maybe she might even like him.”
“Momo is a friend of mine, so obviously I’d only introduce her to someone decent. Upperclassman Cheng asked for my help a while back, but I didn’t agree to it sooner because I wanted to see what kind of guy he was. I wouldn’t want her being introduced to the wrong guy either.” Ming Yeqing seemed completely unperturbed despite Wei Zhiqian’s cold gaze.
“I wouldn’t want Momo getting cheated or whatever. I’ve done my research and put him through a few tests to make sure he was really a nice guy. He’s liberal, generous, and doesn’t feel threatened by Momo’s achievements. He’s neither the type to bear a grudge if he gets rejected, nor would he give up too easily when faced with challenges.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“That also means that Upperclassman Cheng actually has genuine feelings toward Momo. He doesn’t just like her for her looks, so he won’t find a new target just because he can’t win her over. He didn’t even get angry that I refused to help him the last time. In fact, he understood my reasons. I may have tricked Momo this once just to get her to come for a meal with the guy. But because I lied this time, there won’t be a next. I know lying to Momo is an awful thing to do. I definitely wouldn’t want our friendship to get ruined just because of this.
“Upperclassman Cheng is an honest and righteous guy who’s not great with words. He’s a decent guy working toward a decent career, who just happens to be a little blunt. He’s a disciple of Professor Yue, who puts all his heart into scientific research, so he doesn’t play around. Being with him would be as easy as breathing. She wouldn’t have to wonder about him.”
Ming Yeqing continued with a grin. “To be frank, being a genius can be tiring at times, so having things be simple would be nice for a change. Momo is an intelligent girl. In fact, she’s too intelligent. If she had someone simple by her side, her life would be so much easier. It’s just like how well she gets along with Muye. I believe even Momo may not know this yet, but one of the reasons for that is because Muye is a simple person. Getting along with Muye is just very easy.”
Wei Zhiqian furrowed his brows. “What are you trying to say?”
“I’m just saying that I wouldn’t introduce her to someone unreliable. I know you have high expectations for Momo’s boyfriend. But as her friends, Muye and I would never set her up. You want the best for her, and so do we.” Ming Yeqing beamed with a grin. “Upperclassman Cheng is perfect in every aspect.”
“Momo is all grown up now. She’s at the age where she can date.” Ming Yeqing hintingly asked, “Brother Zhiqian, weren’t you secretly going on blind dates behind Momo’s back too? If you think from her perspective, it’s nothing unusual for Momo to go on dates. You can’t keep controlling her, so why not just accept it with grace?”
Unfazed by Wei Zhiqian’s stony expression, which was becoming grimmer by the second, Ming Yeqing continued. “Besides, even if it wasn’t Upperclassman Cheng, there’d still be someone else. You can’t forbid Momo from dating or marrying forever. You keep saying you want her to be with someone decent, but nobody’s ever good enough for you. Are you planning to keep her single her entire life?”
“That was never my intention,” Wei Zhiqian answered in a grim tone.
“To know how someone truly is, one has to get to know the person to really find out,” Ming Yeqing said. “Testing someone without having actual feelings for them is pointless. Can you really say that the results from those tests actually justify how a person is? It could be just a facade. There’s no such thing as a perfect person in this world.”
“Even if you do happen to find someone who passes all your tests with flying colors, can you be sure that deep down that person is always going to be as perfect?”
Wei Zhiqian was at a loss for words.
“Even if there was someone so perfect,” Ming Yeqing cracked a broad grin, baring his pearly white teeth, “would you finally let go? Could you really bear to see Momo dating that perfect man and eventually marrying him?”
Ming Yeqing’s smile seemed laced with mockery.
Seeing that pasty grin on his face, Wei Zhiqian felt utterly insulted.
