Chapter 73

BLAIRE

“You can’t be serious?” I asked sarcastically.

“On the contrary, I have no tfor jokes, Blaire.”

I clenched my fist, trying to hold back my anger. I know he’s cruel, but I never imagined that he could be this cruel. “I’m not leaving this place without my son,” I insisted.

“Then, you are free to stay for as long as you, love,” he replied.

“Don’t callthat!” I roll my eyes at him in annoyance.

“Why? You don’t seem to have a problem when I call you that while you were beneath me, moaning my name,” he teased.

I rolled my eyes in response. I shouldn’t let charm affectthe way it usually does. This wasn’t just about us anymore. If I don’t play my cards well, I might end up losing the gthat we were playing. I need to be smarter and wiser.

“If you’re after Blaze, then be prepared to battle it out in court. Until then, he stays with me,” I asserted before pivoting away. Staying in close quarters with Sebastian longer than it should wasn’t the best idea. I need to maintain my distance from him.

“Are you sure about that, Blaire? Do you really want to fightin court?” he challenged.

“I may not have much chance of winning against you, but I’d rather fight and lose than do nothing at all,” I answered bravely.

“Motherhood seems to suit you, Blaire. You’ve grown even braver and stronger than usual,” he remarked.

“It’s because I was left with no options. I have to be brave and strong for the both of us,” I replied.

“I’m sorry,” he said, barely a whisper.

I immediately saw the changes in his eyes. What was once full of arrogance and now filled with sorrow and regret. For a brief second, I felt the urge to comfort him. He may not be the best husband that I could ever have, but there’s a chance that he could be a good father to Blaze. Despite my reservation, I’m still more inclined to protect my son than to take the risk and let him enter my son’s life. I don’t care if I get hurt along

the

way, but I can’t afford to risk my son going through that pain of abandonment and rejection.

“If you truly regret it, Sebastian, you’d allow us to leave,” I countered.

He remained silent for a minute, staring into my eyes as if he were meticulously weighing all his options. I’m silently praying that his answer will be in my favor.

“This house is big for the three of us. I’m not taking Blaze away from you. I’m actually offering you to stay with us,” he said when he finally answered.

I blew out an exasperated sigh. What am I expecting? Of course, he wouldn’t back down that easily.

“My answer is no.”

“If that’s the case, then you are free to go, Blaire. But Blaze will stay in this house whether you’re here or not,” he said with finality.

“We’re leaving. You can try and stop me, but I’m bringing Blaze with me,” I replied. before barging out of the room.

I’m kind of bothered that Sebastian remained calm as I walked out of the room. He was just watching my every move. His actions sent off the vibe that he was not bothered at all. It was as if he were telling me that no matter how hard I tried, I had no other option but to stay.

“Blaze, we’re leaving!” I announced. I offered my hand to him, which he quickly’ accepted. We walked together towards the door, but as soon as we reached the door, Brad blocked our way. “Really?” I squinted my eyes as I turned towards the stairs, where Sebastian was currently watching us from the railings like a g od, and we were at his

mercy.

“As I said, you are free to go, Blaire,” he reminded me.

“Brad, get out of the way,” I asked Brad calmly.

“I’m sorry, Miss Blaire. I’m afraid I can’t do that,” he responded.

I was ready to fight him with myself when I felt a gentle tug on the hem of my shirt. “Mommy, what’s happening? I’m scared,” he said with his eyes filled with fear and

confusion.

I glanced at Sebastian, noting the raised eyebrow and the slight tug at the corner of his lips, as if he were daringto make my next move.

It frustratesthat I can’t be so careless with Blaze around me. He still had no idea who Sebastian was, and by making a scene, I’m afraid that it would raise questions that he might not yet be ready to hear. Aside from all of that, he just got out of the hospital, and it hadn’t been long since he got out of surgery. The stress of this situation might

cause him harm.

I picked up Blaze and hugged him tightly. If I have to push Brad as hard as I can to get past him, I will.

Blaze wrapped his arm around my neck as he whispered, “Mommy, I’m scared.”

“Hold on, baby.”

As I moved to push Brad aside, a pair of men in black suits suddenly appeared, seemingly out of thin air, effectively barricading our path forward. Their imposing presence sent a shiver down my spine, and I instinctively took a step back, my heart pounding with apprehension. There’s no way I can get past this group of men blocking

our way.

“Mommy, I can’t breathe,” Blaze whispered while clutching his chest.

My eyes widen in panic. I turned to Sebastian with horror in my eyes. I was too shocked to speak, but it’s a good thing that he managed to read my face

He quickly grabbed Blaze from my arms and assessed him for a second. He then turned to Brad and gave him an order. “Call Magnus and bring him to Blaze’s room,” he said.

“Yes, Mr. Foster,” he said before moving immediately.

Sebastian quickly went upstairs, carrying Blaze. His lips were starting to get pale, and he couldn’t even lift his head. I’m starting to panic right at that moment.

As soon as we reached the room, I was surprised when the doctors were already here. The room that we went to was full of medical equipment, as if Sebastian had brought the whole hospital to his house.

Sebastian gently placed Blaze on the bed, and without delay, the medical team sprang into action. They swiftly assessed Blaze’s condition, swiftly connecting him to an oxygen supply and a monitoring device to track his vital signs.

“What’s happening to my son, doctor?” I asked, growing increasingly anxious. “Can somebody please answer me?!” Despite raising my voice, the medical team remained focused on their urgent task, leaving my questions unanswered.

“Let’s go outside, Blaire. Let them do their job. They will do everything to make sure Blaze is okay,” Sebastian said as he gently grabbed my arm and pulledout of the

room.

As soon as we stepped outside, I yanked my arm away from his grip. “Don’t touch me,” I snapped through clenched teeth. “This is all because of you!” I shouted, directing my anger squarely at him. “If you hadn’t taken my son from the hospital, none of this

would be happening! Are you satisfied now? Is this how far you’re willing to go just to make my life miserable? What did I do to you to deserve this?” I’m pouring out all my anger and frustration that’s building insidetowards Sebastian.

“I didn’t take him out of the hospital, Blaire. Can’t you see? I brought the hospital here to make sure that he’s well taken care of. Do you really think that I will put my son’s life in danger just to spite you?”

I was taken aback. It tooka moment to register that he had converted his guest room into a safe haven for Blaze, complete with medical equipment and standby doctors.

“We may have our differences, but I would never put my son’s life at risk just because of our unresolved issues from the past,” he said. “I understand your concern, but rest assured, Blaze is in capable hands,” he reassured me, attempting to soothe my anxiety. “I know this isn’t what you had in mind, but let’s be honest, Blaze will be safer here than wherever you’re planning to take him.”

It seems like Sebastian won the first round. What he said makes perfect sense. But the ghasn’t ended. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. I just need stto think about my next move. For now, I agree that it’s best for Blaze to stay where he can be attended, given his current situation.

“This isn’t over, Sebastian,” I warned him.

He just chuckled as a response, as if he wasn’t even bothered by my threat. “I’m looking forward to it,” he said, flashing his ever-dashing smile that can melt a thousand hearts.

We exchanged silent glances for a moment, assessing each other’s expressions. The quiet was interrupted by the creak of the door opening, and the doctor cout of the door. It’s the only tthat I manage to get a good look at the doctor who has been taking care of my son. I noticed how charming and handsthis doctor is.

“Blaze is doing fine for now. We still need to monitor his condition, but he’s already out of danger. I suggest that we avoid exposing him to any stressful situations and refrain from doing strange activities,” the doctor advises. “That includes traveling,” he quickly added while staring directly at me. “Again, no stress,” he continued, but this the was looking at Sebastian.

“Why are you looking at me?” Sebastian complained, frowning.

“We both know you’re the one who’s giving stress to these two,” he replied.

“I’m paying you a hefty amount of money to take care of my son, not give your unsolicited opinion,” Sebastian said.

“Whatever, bud! I’m just here for the gossip!” he said with a playful smirk on his lips.

“Nice meeting you, Blaire,” he said as he turned in my direction before reaching out his hand.

Though I was a little bit confused, I accepted his hand. “Nice to meet you, doc,” I replied.

“Magnus. Please callMagnus. And I’m the most incredible cardiothoracic surgeon in the whole world.”

“Stay away from her if you still want to live,” Sebastian threatened.

“I want to see you try, buddy,” Magnus responded.

I rolled my eyes while listening to their banter. I can’t tell if they’re good friends or the opposite. I can’t stand listening to them, so I took the liberty of getting inside the room to check on my son.

“Hi, mom,” Blaze greetedwith a weak voice upon seeing me.

“Hi, honey. How are you feeling?” I asked him.

“I’m feeling better now, mom.”

“I’m glad you’re okay now.” I felt relieved knowing that my son was finally out of danger.

“Mom, who are those men? Are they bad? Are we in trouble?” Blaze asked, his eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and concern.

I took a deep breath before I gently leaned closer to him. “Everything is fine, honey,” I assure him as I gently caress his cheeks. “How do you feel about staying here for a little while?” I inquired, hoping to soothe his nerves.

“We can stay here, mommy,” he asked as his eyes immediately lit up. It seems like Blaze grew fond of this place during the short span of tthat he was here.

“Only for a few days,” I told him, forcing a smile on my face.

“That’s okay, Mommy! As long as you’re with me, I’m happy wherever we go!” He exclaimed, wrapping me in a warm embrace.

I didn’t notice Sebastian walking toward us. “How do you like your room, Blaze?”

We both turned at once in his direction. “Are you a friend of my mommy?” Blaze asked curiously.

Sebastian and I looked at each other, weighing the situation. “You could say that,” Sebastian answered without giving Blaze much context.

I let out a sigh of relief upon hearing his answer.

“Your house is huge and beautiful,” he commented.

“Thank you. But being in a house this large can sometimes make you feel lonely when you’re here all by yourself. Would you like to accompany me?” Sebastian asked him.

Blaze frowned and pouted his lips as if he didn’t understand what Sebastian was talking about. “How do you mean you’re alone? You have a lot of people working for you who leave here,” he said innocently.

I can’t hold my chuckle. Sometimes, I forget how clever Blaze is for someone his age. He possesses knowledge and understanding that sometimes surprise me.

Sebastian glared atwhen he sawlaughing. “But they are not my family,” he responded, trying to salvage the argument.

Blaze pouted even more, “But we’re not your family either.” He’s more confused than he was before.

“Blaire, a little help here?” he said, asking for a rescue.

“Friends are family, right, honey?” I uttered.

“Oh, yes! You’re right, mommy!” Blaze chimed in, his agreement accompanied by a wide, infectious smile. “Okay, mister. We’ll stay with you for as long as my mommy wants to be here,” he added, his enthusiasm evident in his voice and expression.

It appears that my only choice at the moment is to comply with Sebastian’s plans. I must devise a plan swiftly, or else we’ll both fall into Sebastian’s trap.
