Little by little, Jake was learning the tricks to find items that might grant him, classes. Most of them had very particular skills like Reflect, and instead of equipping a definitive set of items, it would be more accurate to say that they needed to match up with the currently equipped items. So, Jake had to move away from his ax and equip his sword and shield for him to obtain the skill.
"Shit, shit, shit… and more shit," Jake said while he was checking the items. "Selling those will be a pain in the ass, but at least I got two million coins in this battle… things are escalating quite quickly, huh? A few months ago, I was killing fire slimes and getting one coin per kill, and now this…"
Regardless, Jake hasn't been increasing his luck, so perhaps he should do that… the cold wasn't bothering him anymore since Cold Immunity leveled up a lot thanks to his plan, but he wasn't sure if he should keep following that specialized route. Still, unless he does that, he will suffer a lot during the fights, and then his mind won't work properly… choosing between using Master Thief to help with his resistance skills and Recovery was tough.
While walking toward the entrance of the dungeon, Jake wondered why it was at the base of the mountain. The frozen salamanders couldn't move backward, but they were quite fast while dashing to the front. Running down the mountain should have been easier for them. It also would make it easier for them to spot enemies in the distance, despite the numerous trees and the stupid amount of snow around.
"Oh, right… you guys can eat them," Jake said while looking at the three hundred or so crystal wolves that survived the battle.
It was annoying that he lost six hundred of them, but at least the skill reached level 120, and Magnus looked quite fearsome. Eating that many enemies will take a while, but it will make them reach even higher levels. Being a summoner sure was useful, so Jake wondered why he never found one… but he decided to forget about it since he didn't want to jinx himself.
"I guess I will rest here and increase my recovery while they deal with the corpses," Jake said and then sat down at the entrance of the dungeon.
As one would expect, the interior of the dungeon was white due to the ice, but Jake melted things with his dark flames.
While Jake was resting and preparing to fight the dungeon boss, Louise's group was preparing to move. After ten days of thinking about the whole situation, none of them knew how to deal with their own thoughts. That was pretty much the same as everyone else… things got even weirder because they had some other dreams that showed the memories of the bodies that they were using. Memories of another version of themselves that struggled against the end of the world. Eventually, they came to realize that they only had two options, ignore the memories or let them bother them forever.
"Luke will finish his quest in a few hours, but it is unlikely that you will be teleported to the same area that he is," Frederick said. "Until now, we struggled on how to deal with that quest since many other people from other worlds were participating and trying to get in our way. Still, we now know a few ways of how to deal with that."
"Why all of a sudden?" Lana asked.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"That is because we had some time to experiment with things since the criminals weren't bothering us there anymore and because Jake gave us some ideas," Frederick replied. "If you manage to work together and defeat the four camp owners of an area, you can work together to defend from attackers during most of the time. Still, it is essential that you shouldn't let any enemies between you all. One thing that we learned from Billy is that earth golems can be very useful for surprise attacks and for defense purposes. So, you guys can use this."
Frederick gave them a magic wand that would let them summon golems, it was only a loan, but it was a loan of a pretty rare item. They didn't know if he was trying to make it up for his past mistakes regarding Jake, but all the help they could get was welcome.
"What about him?" Louise asked.
"... Some of us tried to capture him, but Luke convinced us only to use their monsters against his monsters," Frederick said after a long sigh. "Thanks to that, they failed at capturing him, and Jake completed the quest. Luke thought that attacking him with his skill would be a bad call, and I shared the same opinion. That being said, he is in uncharted territory now, and we can't say how things will play out for him. All of us might meet people that know the versions of us that lived in this universe, after all."
"... All right, we should get going," Louise said. "Until later, guild master."
"Yes, be careful out there and watch each other's back," Frederick said.
Soon after that, Louise selected the mission when the others were touching her shoulders. In the end, they confirmed the few things that they heard about the world of that mission. It was dark and weird.
"What do you guys think about what Frederick said?" Lana asked.
"I felt like he was telling the truth about the issue with Billy," Julian said. "The guild master is the type who doesn't hide well when he is ashamed of something."
"Even if that is the case, they didn't attack him out of fear," Karina said. "That is much certain… the fact that they don't reveal much information about the dream that they had is also concerning."
