Chapter 183 Mud Wave
The enraged Orc Shaman's attack was devastating for the Bandits.
A large wave of mud manifested in front of him and rushed towards the bandits. The depth of the mud was nearly a meter which gave it a lot of mass and washed all of the bandits back.
They couldn't withstand the force of the mud at all and the more unfortunate ones among them quickly drowned in the mud. At the same time, the mud rushed into the one spot it could enter: the cave.
The entry of the mud wave inside was highly damaging for the bandits as there was a lot of goods and loot that were kept inside. Some of the solid items might be safe, but the delicate goods like cloth, and food would be destroyed due to the mud or at least be rendered useless.
Arthur who was watching it from the hill saw it all clearly.
"That Mud Wave… how is it so big?" Arthur was surprised.
Mud Wave was a spell that even the Players could learn, but as far as he had seen them use it, its power was less than a fifth of what the Orc Shaman had displayed.
It made Arthur doubt his own understanding of the spell and magic.
'Wait a second…' Arthur thought of something and used Dragon's Insight on the Orc Shaman again.

"The Mana… he only has 15% left?" Arthur looked at the number and was a bit confused.
He counted the number of fireballs that the Shaman had used earlier and then the Mud Wave spell and realized that the amount did not add up.
'The Orc Shaman used the Fireballs around 10 times and the Mud Wave just once. Considering the Fire Ball spell consumes 2% MP for every use, that's about 20% of his Mana expended there. Then there's the Mud Wave which takes 10% MP per use…
He shouldn't have used more than 40% of his MP even if I missed a few fireballs.' Arthur was wondering if there was more to this.
And soon enough, Arthur got his answer by simply continuing to observe.
"He's eating something?" Arthur first saw the Orc Shaman take out some herbs from a pouch and eat them.
<MP: 65%>
And when he looked at the MP again, he saw that it had risen quickly to 65%.
"A Mana restorative herb? The Shaman had those too…" Arthur realized that the Shaman would be a tougher foe than one would think.
Especially if he could restore his MP several times.
"You shall suffer! STONE SPEAR!" The Orc Shaman wasn't done and quickly used another spell.
This time though, Arthur saw the MP decrease rapidly.
<MP: 25%>
"It fell by 40%? But he only used the Stone Spear Spell and that only takes 10%." Arthur muttered in surprise but when he saw the effect of the spell, he started to figure it out.
~SHING~SHING~SHING~
One after the others, stone spears started to rise from the ground. The bandits that had been hit by the Mud Wave were currently incapacitated. Some were lying on the ground due to injuries that they suffered and some were stuck in the mud.
It made them immobile and the perfect chance to get hit by the spell.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe Stone Spears that rose from the ground quickly impaled the Bandits, ending most of their lives in an instant. The area of effect of the Stone Spears was also vast, covering nearly twenty square meters in one go.
'The Stone Spear Spell would at most cover five square meters… but the Orc Shamans spell did four times that… And the consumption of his MP was also four times the usual.
This means… he's actually using the spell four times in a row?' Arthur finally figured it out.
He didn't know the details of it, as the Orc Shaman was only chanting the spell once.
'There are a few assistive skills that can help with speeding up Spell incantation as well as skipping them, but the Orc Shaman doesn't have them.' Arthur knew the casting speed of spells could be affected by a lot of things.
The forums had a lot of information about the Mage classes after all and most of their players were always looking at the best combination of spells as well as a way to improve them.
Two of the most sought after skills for the players of the mage class were the 'Chant-less Incantation' ability and the 'Speed Chant' ability.
The Speed Chant was something that reduced the duration between two spells. It wasn't even a matter of speaking fast, but rather channeling the Mana itself that took time.
It was a must needed ability for Mage class players after a while and they could eventually obtain it through the progression of their class.
Then there was the Chant-less Incantation, which was quite difficult to obtain. Unlike Speed Chant, it wasn't one they could naturally acquire through the progress of their class.
Instead, they had to do special quests and seek out a Magic Skillbook that could impart the skill. The quests were also difficult and had a lot of requirements to obtain.
As far as Arthur could recall, only a hundred or so mages actually had the Chant-less Incantation ability.
'How is it that such a sought after ability can be replicated by a non player character… that too, an Orc?' The question continued to bother Arthur.
And yet there was no solution that he could come up with.
Eventually, it made him think back to Zaddreus's words and how things were not as they seemed at all.
"Just how many secrets are there to Morpheus Online?" Arthur started to wonder just how much did he 'truly' know.
