Chapter 8 LILY When Marco finally dismisses me, I struggle into my clothes, my eyes firmly lowered to the ground. Just before I leave, his dark baritone stops me. “You have one more test, Lily. Be ready by nine am sharp tomorrow night. I will send someone to pick you up.” I shake my head. “When does all these tests end?” His eyes harden. “It ends when I f ucking want it to end, cara mia. It ends when you’re done paying your debts. Now, Leave my office.” I blink against the new wave of tears that pri ck my eyes, lift my chin and sail out of his office before his heated gaze sets me afiame. Once in my car, I lay my head against the steering wheel and let my tears fiow. I’ve lost everything. My life, my fiancé…it’s all over. I pick up my phone and call Edmund over and over. He doesn’t answer any of my calls. He doesn’t return them either. I finally muster the energy to run home, dread and anxiety eating at the pit of my

stomach. When Carlissa opens our apartment door to let me in fifteen minutes later, she takes one look at my swollen eyes and wraps me in a hug. “Oh, Lisa, what am I going to do? What am I going to do?” I s ob against her tee shirt. “Hush now, baby. What the hell happened?” “Edmund broke up with me.” I s ob. Her face morphs into one of shock. “What? Why?!” 1/5 840% Chapter 8 I know Lisa will not condemn me if I tell her about Marco, but I’m just not ready yet. “It’s c-complicated.” “Oh, baby.” She hugs me tighter. “Have you tried talking to him?” “He’s not answering my calls.” Lisa purses her lips. “That just won’t do. You need to speak to him. Come on, I’ll take you to the bakery so you both can iron things out.” I look up at her through my tears. “You really think I should do that?” Her gaze softens. “Of course. Whatever happened between you both, I’m sure you will sort things out. Now come on, let’s go.” I clean up with Lisa’s help and apply some makeup. Within minutes, we’re speeding down the freeway to Seams Street where Edmund’s bakery is located. All through the ride, my stomach tightens with nerves and I nearly choke from guilt. When we finally arrive, I have completely lost all of just confidence. “Come on, let’s go in.” Edmund’s building is a cute, quaint coffee shop with a bakery behind. Lisa goes before me, and pushes open the entrance glass door. I’m about to walk in when I almost crash into her unmoving back. I stop, completely confused.
It takes a moment to realize that Lisa has completely frozen. “Lisa?” I call uncertainly. She whirls in my direction, her eyes wide with panic. “You know what? Let’s go. Let’s leave right now. Perhaps you both can meet another time.” I can barely make out her garbled words, but I know something is wrong. Without another word, I gently push her aside. The sight that greets me nearly stops my heartbeat. My eyes widen in horror as I take in the scene. My heart feels like it’s being poked with a thousand needles. 2/3 40%2 Chapter S Before me, my fiancé is passionately k*ssing Brooklyn Meyers, a waitress at the coffee shop. I am certain it’s her. Her honey blonde her is unmistakable. Without thinking. I barge into the store, my fingers clenched with rage. “Edmund? What the hell is going on here?!” The lovers fiy apart immediately. When Brooklyn sees me, her eyes widen in shock and she makes to leave. To my utter chagrin, Edmund grabs her arm, stopping her exit. “I asked you a question.” I retort sharply. “We’re getting married in three months and I come in here to find you making out with this sl ut?” At this point, my rage is blinding. Brooklyn makes to speak but Edmund stops her with a lift of one finger. His face is hard and remorseless. “You have absolutely no right to call Brooklyn any names. We both know how that you’re the real sl ut here.” I do not realize everyone in the shop is watching our debacle until I hear the collective gasps that sweeps through the small crowd. I couldn’t care less at this moment. “I told you there was a perfect explanation for what you saw. I sure as hell didn’t expect you to cheat on me without at least listening to what I had to say. Seriously, how low can you stoop?” Edmund gets to his feet, his brown eyes burning with anger now. At nearly six feet, he completely towers over me.

“So let me get this straight. I get a call from a strange number that you’re cheating on me. I come to the mentioned location to find you n*ked on the f ucking table, legs spread while a man eats your pu ssy. What other explanation do you have to offer? We’re done, Lily. You’re a wh ore and nothing but a w h o re.” A hush falls over the crowd at Edmund’s revelation and my cheeks redden in shame. “There was a reason…” “And I do not want to know what the reason was!” He screams in my face. “Can’t you take the hint? Have you no self respect left, you little sl ut? We’re over. The wedding is over. Everything is over!” For a moment, my mouth hangs open in shock. “You’re really calling off our wedding?” I whisper in shock. His lips tighten into a sneer. 2×40% Chapter 8 “You bet I am. You can take your explanation and shove it up your a rse, or better still, go be with your old man.” He makes to leave but I take a frantic step forward. “Edmund, please listen…” Brooklyn steps in between us, blocking my access to him. Her catty eyes nearly spill venom. “You heard my man. Get your cheating a rse out of here right now.” I stare her down. “I want to speak to my fiancé. You have no right to interfere.” She gives me a mocking smile. “I have every right to interfere. He’s mine now.”” Her bold admission heightens my fury and I make to slap her. Unfortunately for me, Brooklyn is taller and quicker. She intercepts my slap with one of her own. Her strength sends me crashing to t the ground with a pained shriek. “Remember that next time you try to bite off more than you can chew. Bi tch.” Edmund walks off with Brooklyn, leaving me crying on the fioor. Lisa comes over and lifts me up.
“I’m so sorry, Lily. We could have just left earlier. Come on, let’s go.” I keep my face lowered as the clientele keep trying to get pictures and videos of my epic disgrace. “Just look at her,” one woman says. “Cheating on that good man. Such a wh ore.” My heart clenches in pain and I lower my head until we get to the car. Just before I get in, I receive a phone call. “Hello, Lily Carson? Marco says you’re the new stripper working at his club. My friends and I would love to book you for the night in a private room for the night.”
