Chapter 168 BOOK 2: CHAPTER 38 Angela's POV “Until when are you planning on staying over there, Angela?” My mother asked on the phone.

There was a bit of silence on the other end of the line before she asked that question. | just gave her an update about everything that had happened so far but | wasn’t expecting that question from her.

“Until she comes around, mom. I've waited for her for more than twelve years and I'll keep on waiting. | wouldn’t mind waiting another twelve years,” | answered quickly. My heart broke into pieces when Reina went missing and it took a long time before | could get myself back together. She was my better half and she was more than a daughter.

She was priceless. She was with me at my lowest and she was also a ray of sunshine in my darkness after | had her. Losing her was the worst thing that had ever happened to me and having her back is the best thing ever though she couldn’t recognize 1. me.

Yet! “I understand you, Angela but | also want to remind you that you have two other children waiting for you here,” My mother said, referring to Layla and Liam “I know and I'm sure they can manage a few days without me,” “They're twelve, Angela. Twelve. They need you the most at this stage of their lives and you're abandoning them,” | was beginning to get frustrated. “I'm not abandoning them. I'm leaving for just a few days,” “How many days?” She asked again.

That was the question that kept breaking me because | didn’t have an answer to it. “I don’t know Mom, | honestly don’t know,” | confessed. One part of my heart was in this rogue pack while the other part was back at home. | also wanted to go back to my twins but at the same time, | wanted to stay back, spend more time with Reina, and help her remember at least something.

“Why don’t you discuss with Darius and bring Reina home instead of staying over there with her?” She asked.

| clicked my tongue in annoyance. “She doesn’t remember us. Have you been listening?” “Yes, Angela. Yes! But you need to remember that she was six. She was literally a baby. How is she supposed to remember you? Give her evidence, show her something to let her know she’s your child, and then, bring her home,” “Mom! It's not that easy. She's...”

| paused, thinking twice about telling my mother how traumatized Reina was.

How strangely she acted and how her wolf was absent.

That afternoon, | had also brought up the issue of talking her into leaving with us but Darius believed it would be better and helpful for her if she was closer to her mate.

The same mate she doesn’t even recognize.

“She’s what, Angela?” “Nothing Mom,” | answered, biting down on my bottom lip.

“Grandma, is that my mom on the phone,?” I smiled as | heard my daughter’s voice. She was probably sleepy because of how her words were slurred. | should've been 1/2

more concerned about how she was still awake at this time of the night but instead, | was glad | got to hear her voice.

“Can | say hi to my mom?” “Yes, please,” | quickly responded.

My mom gave her the phone.

“I miss you, mama. Goodnight,” “I miss you too baby,” | laughed once my brain processed how she said goodnight so quickly and passed the phone to my mom.

Layla loved her beauty sleep more than anything. In fact, she loved it more than those designer bags and food.

| said goodbye to my mom and ended the call before she could ask me anything else.

A knock resounded on the door. | opened it to see it was Mason.

SEE ———— “Hello, Mason,” “Angela. Where's Darius?” | pointed to the balcony. “He’s busy making a phone call. What's wrong? You look worried,” He nodded frantically. | opened the door wider so he could come in.

“What's wrong?” | asked.

“Something strange is going on with Harriette but | need to talk to you and Darius about it” Hearing it was about Harriette, | walked to the balcony and tapped Darius on the shoulder. He turned to me. | could see he also looked worried.

“What's wrong, love?” He asked, touching my face gently.

“Mason is here. He said it's about Harriette,” Darius ended the call abruptly without saying goodbye to the person on the other end of the line. | frowned at him.

That was rude but | wasn’t surprised. It was typical Darius.

We both walked back in to talk to Mason.

“What's going on, Mason?” He asked.

Mason folded his hands in his pocket. “You know how we planned on waiting while we slowly allow the matebond between Rowan and Harriette to fix her wolf?” He asked.

Darius and I shared a look before we nodded.

“Yeah, that is the plan,” Mason shook his head. “We shouldn’t do that anymore,”

“Why?” “| talked to Harriette,” “How?” | asked.

“Dreamwalking,” Mason replied casually.

Ooh! | forgot that was their thing for a minute. How did 1 forget so quickly? “First off, Harriette is Dreamwalking wrongly. That was what | tried to warn you about years ago before she disappeared. However, that might be because she has zero connection with her wolf and not have anything to do with training. But as far as Dreamwalking is concerned, it’s all wrong. Secondly, which is the worst thing ever, | think your daughter has been

| frowned. “Brainwashed, how?” | asked before Darius could.

“I don’t think Reina was kidnapped out of spite or revenge. | believe whoever kidnapped her did so for a particular reason. This girl is out here with a whole lot of horrible beliefs in her head. The worst thing is, she believes in whoever told her those things. The Reina | know had a strong mind even as a child. Whatever they did to her to turn her into that must've been cruel, tormenting, and dark. She’s not the Reina we know.

She’s not normal. Something is definitely wrong,” Mason said all at once and took a deep breath.

I'd noticed the same thing but | didn’t know it was that bad.

“What do you suggest we do?” | asked both Darius and Mason.

“We force Rowan to mark her,” Mason announced.

“What the heck are you even talking about? Why would we do such a ridiculous thing? How are we even supposed to force a Rogue god? He has the mind of a donkey,” | angrily spat, referring to his stubbornness.

“He’s her key, her trigger. He's the only reason why she began Dreamwalking. He's the only one who can help us fix her mind. At least. It's either that or we keep hoping she comes around but according to everything | heard tonight from her, it would take us a century to bring her back,” “We won't force him. That's barbaric, Mason. You used to be the reasonable one,” Darius suddenly said.

“I know but I'm just scared if we don’t do something, Reina might never get better,” “Rowan’s reluctant about the matebond and | think it's because she doesn’t recognize him. We'll make him come around without directly telling him to,” “Harriette likes him. I've seen her watching him,” | added.

“Harriette likes him. I've seen her watching him,” | added.

“Maybe | can use a bit of my gift to help him,” “Don’t you even think about that shit,” Darius warned Mason.

“Fine! Then, what are you doing? How are we doing this?” Darius looked at Mason and I. “Let's play matchmakers. The old, traditional way,” fe)
