Chapter 298 Lying

Ivana and Rachel were both nervous.

She was as nervous as Richie was full of excitement and joy, as though they were about to reunite after a long

separation.

Rachel, however, was different.

She kept cursing under her breath, hoping that Leslie was dead. That way, no one would stand in her way when

it cto Ivana.

Ivana was the only person she could rely on now. If Leslie returned, would Ivana still care about her?

Even if Leslie was alive, it would be best if she had somehow becunrecognizable-something ugly that would

make people turn away in disgust. "Who is it?" A middle-aged woman's voice cfrom inside.

"Are you here in the early in the morning to read the water meter?" The woman assumed they were from the

local utility company.

Irritated, she opened the door, only to be taken aback by Richie's handsface.

Does the water meter reader have such a high requirement with their looks now?

Wait-why are there so many of them?

Her gaze shifted from Richie's face to Isabel and Xander, and her eyes lit up with surprise.

Each one of them was more beautiful than the last.

They looked like they had stepped out from the screen-she had never seen such good-looking people in real life.

"Can | help you?" she asked.

Seeing how handsthe men were and how beautiful the women were, if she still thought they were here to

check her meters, she had to be out of her mind. Richie held up a photo of Leslie.

"Twenty years ago, you adopted her."

She was caught off guard.

The middle-aged woman's eyes nearly popped out of her head as she saw the photo. Her face turned pale with

shock.

"Y-you've got the wrong person. It wasn't me!"

With that, she tried to slam the door.

But Isabel was ready. She blocked the door with her foot and smiled sweetly at the woman.

"What's the rush, lady? Are you feeling guilty about something?"

"You're the one who should feel

guilty! Get lost! And you-if you don't leave, call the police!" The woman shouted, thinking her threat would scare

them off.

Isabel crossed her arms, unbothered. "Go ahead. Let's see if you have the nerve to do it."

She wasn't afraid. Years ago, it was this woman and her husband had sold her to a nightclub. She doubted they

would go as far as calling the police.

If they did, the ones who'd be in trouble would be them.

Just then, the man of the house, hearing the noise, stepped into the room.

"What's all the shouting about? This is so noisy."

"Honey, cquick! Someone's bullying me!" The woman screamed.

The man grabbed a kitchen knife and rushed out.

"Who's messing with my wife? Do you wantto kill you?"

Richie stepped forward, holding the photo. He looked at the man and asked, "I asked around at the orphanage.

My sister-she was adopted by you."

Sister?

"Clang!" The man's kitchen knife clattered to the floor.

Both he and his wife acted strangely.

Richie's face hardened, and his voice grew cold as ice.

"Where is she?"

The man froze, suddenly shaking in fear. He stammered, "S-she... she's gone." Gone?

"How could she just be gone?!" Richie didn't believe it.
