An Understated Dominance by Marina Vittori Chapter 1264

“Is that so? Well, what if it’s something to do with the upheaval in Aylka ten years ago?” Dustin asked

suddenly.

“What?” Austin’s expression froze over as he fell silent. He reflexively looked over at his mother. The

upheaval in Aylka was a taboo in their family. In fact, it was a taboo in the whole of Dragonmarsh.

Ever since it happened, it has been a topic that no one dared to discuss. He hadn’t expected Dustin to

bring it up now suddenly.

“Logan, what’s in the past should be left in the past. What happened ten years ago is over and should

not be brought up again.” Eloise shook her head lightly.

“Over?” Dustin lifted his head slowly.

“I do not know why or how my mother died; my personal guards were all sacrificed. What do you mean

it’s over?”

“It hurts me to think about your mother’s death, too. But the people behind it have already been

executed. Everyone that deserves to be executed is already dead.

“It’s time to let go of your resentment, “Eloise coaxed gently. “They have the blood of so many people I

care about on their hands. How can I possibly just let it go?

“Besides, those who have died were just scapegoats. The real mastermind behind it all has yet to be

uncovered,” Dustin stated matter-of-factly.

Many were sacrificed in the upheaval in Aylka back then, so much so that there had nearly been a

revolt in the military. They had only executed several scapegoats to appease the people, The real

mastermind had roamed free all these years.

“Logan, I know what happened back then had been a huge blow to you, but if you keep looking back,

you’ll forever be trapped in that nightmare. You won’t ever be able to escape it.

“You should let it go. Don’t torment yourself over it. You deserve a better life,” Eloise reasoned patiently.

“Everyone tells me to let it go, but who among you understands my pain?” A bitter and cynical smile

tugged on Dustin’s lips.

“Have any of you ever experienced death? Have any of you ever had a taste of despair? Have you

ever seen the people you hold dear being surrounded and killed before your eyes?

“Do you know what it feels like to see everyone you care about lying in a pool of their blood? No, you

don’t. You know nothing at all about all these! But I experienced all of them!

“I watched my mother being killed. I watched all my friends and family being killed. I watched as

everyone around me got killed just to protect me. Every single one of them died for me!

“I’ve had nightmares every night for ten years! Every night, I am reminded of what happened back then.

“The moment I close my eyes, I see all the bloodied faces; I hear all the cries of anguish. With the

weight of all these lives on me, every day has been a living hell.

“So tell me, Your Highness, how can I let go?

“How do I free myself of it? How do I have a new life?”

When Dustin stopped speaking, his face was twisted in pain, and his eyes were bloodshot. He had a

murderous intent, like a demon that had just crawled out of hell. He was frightening indeed.

Austin, who was beside him, was frozen in fear. He shuddered as he broke out in a cold sweat. Even

the shrewd Eloise was rendered speechless. She truly hadn’t known that Dustin had kept such hostility

and aggressiveness under his apparently calm and peaceful demeanor.

“I’m sorry, I acted inappropriately.” Realizing his outburst, Dustin immediately contained himself. After

forcing himself to calm down, he returned to his nonchalant self, different from how feral he had been

just moments ago.

What happened ten years ago was a constant pain in his heart. It was difficult for him to control his

emotions whenever it was mentioned. Eloise let out a long sigh. “Seems like your father was right.

You’re too affected by it to forget about it.

“I might as well help you resolve your obsession over it than to talk you into letting things go.

“If you insist on having revenge, I can help you.”
