Alicia dashed back to the private room as fast as she could, as if she was escaping from a warzone! As she returned to her seat, her legs and feet were sore, and she realized her lips seemed to be tingling. Biting her lips, she was so anxious that her hands that were holding her plate of cake were trembling. "Alicia, are you okay? Are you not feeling well? Why is your face so pale?" Miriam tried to express her concern, but Alicia was so nervous that she almost flipped the plate over when she heard her. "Ah? Really?" Putting the cake down, Alicia reached for her face and touched her cheeks. She had just run back, but her face was all cold. With an uneasy smile, she assured Miriam.
"I'm probably just a little tired..." Her mind was a mess, all she could think of was why was Frederick here? Did he see it? Should she take off the anklet? As she unintentionally moved her feet, another tinkling sound chimed.
Although it wasn't loud, it was so clear that it was unignorable. She didn't expect this cheap anklet to be so nimble.
She originally bought it for the sake of fun because it tinkled when it moved, but at this instant, she was having a major headache just thinking about it.
Should she take it off? After all, they were tiny bells. The tinkling shouldn't be too loud! It was on her feet, therefore it was probably normal that she could hear the sound, right? Others probably couldn't hear it as there would still be a distance between them, could they? As Alicia was hesitating, she couldn't help but think if there were any possibilities that he didn't notice it! Right when she was about to ask Miriam if she could hear the tinkling sounds coming from her anklet, her cell phone vibrated. That instant, Alicia had a bad feeling about it and chills ran down her spine. At the stime, Miriam got up to have a toast with their other colleagues again.
Therefore, she took out her phone to check the message that she received.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAs expected, it was a message from Frederick. "See you at the entrance in ten minutes!" The simple eight words slammed into Alicia's heart like a hammer. He probably saw it! "It's over! I'm doomed this time!" she thought to herself.
Wailing in her heart, Alicia quickly replied in a cute manner, "Okay!", followed by a series of 'kissing' emoticons to please him.
At this moment, Alicia didn't feel like smiling at all.
When Frederick returned to his private room, his face was full of rage and he quickly picked up the car keys. "Let's go!" Carson got up looking confused. "What do you mean, Frederick? I just ordered sbeer!" Haven't they just arrived? The sofa hadn't even been warmed yet! Did he have to torture him like that? "I have matters to deal with! You can drink yourself!" After speaking, Frederick turned around and walked towards the door.
"Hey" Carson scratched his head in exasperation and gave a speechless sigh. What was the fun in drinking alone? In his past experience, people usually gathered to drink when they had something important to talk about. If they were only looking for entertainment or relaxation, they would go play ball or ride horses instead. Carson quickly took out his wallet and paid for the bill, then grabbed his blazer. He quickly turned around to check if they left anything and then proceeded to chase after Frederick.
Alicia, on the other hand, found an excuse to leave first. She politely rejected all her colleagues' offers to send her back. While checking the ton her phone, she ran all the way to the entrance, worrying that being late would add fuel to the fire.
She rushed out the door, panting with her cell phone in one hand. She looked around and saw him standing there with one hand in his pocket and another holding a cigarette. It seemed that he had been waiting for stalready.
Turning around, she quickly greeted him, "Hubby, I'm not..." I'm not late! She raised her hand to gesture that she was two minutes early.
To her surprise, Frederick immediately threw the cigarette butt away, and walked to the other side.
Her hand awkwardly stopped mid-air and her mouth was half-open. Alicia could tell that her next few days were going to be hard! It was supposed to be a happy day; it was all Jeremy's fault! Suddenly, a cold voice resonated and interrupted her thoughts, "You're as slow as a snail!" With no second thoughts, Alicia quickly caught up to him. She batted her long eyelashes and peered at him. Listening to his tone, she knew he was furious, but she felt wronged in her heart as well.
She tried to move as fast as she could, her feet making loud and quick stomps. Frederick's expression was gloomy all the way, and he glared at her as if he wished to shred her into pieces.
Alicia ran most of the way as she tried to catch up with Frederick's pace. She tried to pull the corner of his shirt several times but did not manage to grab it.
"Hubby.." She called him again, attempting to please him, but he still ignored her and did not slow down at all.
Carson, who was panting and running similarly, was about to say something when the scene of them entered his sight. His mouth opened up so wide that an egg could fit into it, and he kept himself from calling out to Frederick. Did he call the way here for this woman? He watched both of them disappear into an alley and sighed deeply. He facepalmed himself, annoyed. "You're so dumb, Carson! He's here to look for his wife. Why did you bother following? You should've just stayed at hand slept!" Since he had no one to complain to, he could only accept his fate and turn to his own car! In the car, Alicia's head hung low for the whole journey, as she knew that there was no escape for her this time.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs the car moved swiftly, her sweaty palms couldn't help but hold on to the corners of her pants as if she was a prisoner waiting for her sentence.
"What should I do? How am I going to get through this?" She glanced at Frederick, and his face looked expressionless and cold. She could hear her heart pounding hard.
"Looks like he probably saw it, should I just admit it? Or should I pretend that it never happened? He probably didn't see my face, right? Otherwise, he wouldn't 't let this pass so easily with his temper! If people can look similar, then it's possible that there are similar clothes or accessories too, isn't it? I wonder which way will be better?" Alicia wondered inwardly. As her thoughts ran frantically in her mind, the car stopped slowly.
A loud slam of the door was heard and Alicia returned to her senses as she quickly unbuckled her seat belt.
However, she was too anxious to focus and couldn't seem to unbuckle it. She was so worried that she began to sweat. "Hurry up! If I'm too slow, he'll get mad again!"
The harder she tried, the harder it was for her to unbuckle it. Just as Alicia lowered her head and wasn about to tackle it again, a hand reached out to her, and she was pulled out the car before she knew it.
The next second, Frederick turned away and left. Even her bag had fallen to the ground in the chaos.
This time, she didn't dare to show her temper. Instead, she quietly picked it up and ran after hing right away. She ve didn't dare to slow down at all. She was tempted to call out to him again but she couldn't bring herself to make the sound. Frederick threw his slippers aggressively onto the floor as he entered the house and a loud bang was heard. On the other hand, Alicia was closing the door carefully before she glimpsed up to him kicking his expensive leather shoes away! X
