71. TFor War

AURELIA

"Get up. It's time." Inara announced. "They are asleep. Let's move before Raiden shows up."

| jolted from the bed, grasping reality as my eyes flew open, quickly adjusting to the dark state of the room. |

heard Katie and Hazel snoring peacefully and | quietly got off the bed, hoping to get out of the room without

disturbing their sleep.

"How many hours do we have till dawn?" | asked my wolf through the bond we shared while | threw on my

leather training suit before slipping out of the room and closing the door behind me.

"Two hours," Inara answered.

I inhaled sharply, "Two hours? How did | sleep for so long? Fuck! Jessica must have woken up to prepare-"

"Relax. Jessica is still asleep. | can't sense her consciousness in the house and | helped you sleep longer because

you need enough physical strength to bring Kyle back. We only have one chance and we can't mess it up." Inara

explained, urgingto stay calm. "You induced my sleep?" | queried in shock.

"I did what | had to and you'd thanklater." My wolf etched. "Now let's move before Jessica launches her

plan."

| didn't bother to argue with Inara even though | wasn't pleased with how she had chosen to manipulate my

mind. It was clear that | still needed to learn how to ther or I'd lose control of my senses to her one day or in

other words, she'd tme.

Steadily, | tiptoed into the living room, rushing over to the door without making any sound that would definitely

wake Jessica from her sleep. She was already mad about the lies | told her in the past. It wouldn't be good for

either of us if she foundsneaking out after agreed to work along with her and Raiden.

Jessica would be crazy mad-

Every thought | had flew out of my mind as soon as | pulled the entrance door open and cface to face with

the devil herself and hell was she fuming as she stared down at me.

"Jess..." | breathed, swallowing my fear because | couldn't allow myself to appear weak... not even to Jessica.

"I don't need to ask you where you are off to not only because | already know but because you'd simply lie to my

face again," Jessica said through clenched teeth.

The moonlight illuminated on her face, revealing her emotions tolike the daylight would.

"Should | play defense or offense?" | asked myself, holding Jessica's gaze as if | was ensuring she didn't lose

herself and attackout of anger.

Inara mumbled into my mind, "Offense, Relia. Jessica doesn't like the sight and smell of weakness."

"I wasn't asking you, Ina." | retorted. "Why should | listen to you after you madebelieve she wasn't awake?

Stay out of this."

"lI was wrong to have underestimated Jessica's ability to evade my sense and I'm sorry but you also know that

I'm right." Inara countered and without saying another word, she leftto take the lead.

Although I was still mad at my wolf for leadingstraight into what | assumed was Jessica's trap, | couldn't

deny the truth; Inara was right. Therefore, it was tto play my cards right and | began by saying, "You have

been waiting out here for me, haven't you?" "Obviously. I'd be a fool not to know you would pull this trick after

our agreement and plans." Jessica hissed.

"Do you even trust me?" | questioned with a frown and | exited the apartment, standing on the balcony with

Jessica.

"Trust you?" Jessica repeated with a roll of her eyes. "Hell no!"

"You should have gone back with-" | thought of lashing out... anything to get her out of my way.

But Jessica interrupted with a shrug

and words that hadeating mine, "Although I didn't trust you to sleep all night while you seemed sure about

your ex's lover's involvement in Kyle's disappearance, | trusted you to go after your instincts

as |

taught you and bring the poor boy

back."

My eyes furrowed in question, did she just say she trusted me, or was that speech about how | broke her trust by

lying to everyone who has done nothing but support me?

"I know you, Lia. Alpha Tristan might have done most of the training but I'm your trainer too which is why | have

been waiting out here for you." The hostility in her voice had faded into nothingness.

And that confusedas | asked, "What are you saying, Jess?"

"I'm going with you. That's all I'm saying and that's final." Jessica revealed her intention and | must say, it was

unexpected.

"Why would you do that after | broke your trust?" | kinda teared up as | sensed her unfailing support.

"Because I'd rather trust you than

trust the man who broke you and that devil he chose over you. Regardless of your lies, | care about you and the

twins and | understand why you had to lie. I'd have done the same." Jessica responded

Tears trickled down my cheeks and | forgot about playing offense. | apologized to Jessica again before she gave

him believe we would be working together because | knew his huge ego would obstruct your plan."

"You tricked him?" | gasped.

Jessica smirked, "Anything to save Kyle from the devil's lair."

| chuckled as Jessica and | began to walk into the forest. | admire how she thought ahead and | was grateful to

have her withyet | was scared she would get hurt because of me.

"If you're worrying about me, stop," Jessica muttered as if she had suddenly beca mind reader. Truly, she

knewwell. "I can handle myself and no one has to know I'm with you until we confirm Kyle's safety."

She patted my shoulder and concluded, "Go on. I'll be hiding but in plain sight."

With that said, Jessica and | separated but | could still feel her presence. If Larisa wantedto show up alone,

I'd give her that.

But she can't have my son's life nor mine.

"Tfor war," Inara announced into my mind, returning with full energy to support me,

And | couldn't agree more. "Yes, tfor war."

However, Kyle has to cout of this war unharmed. My son's wellness was up for bargaining.

"Show yourself, Larisa. | know you are here. | know you took my son." | yelled at the top of my lungs as soon as |

arrived in the area that was marked on the map.

And | got ready because | knew she would show up ready for this war as well.
