Chapter 924
The room suddenly went dead silent, to the point where lan felt like he couldn’t hear anything at all.
His hands were gripping the wheelchair so hard that the veins on his hands were bulging.
Maja’s words packed a punch, doubly so because she was unaware that Darlene’s baby wasn’t lan’s.
She said Coco’s life mattered more than lan’s child.
She once carried lan’s child too. Her words were a subtle dig at lan for not caring enough when she lost their child.
Her words felt like a dagger straight into his heart.
lan coughed a few times, at a loss for a response.
In front of her, he could be tough or unreasonable.
But after she said those words, he lost all ability to argue.
His lips clenched shut as he listened to her question the doctor.

“Coco is improving; the primary doctor is doing everything to save it.”
The rest of the conversation was just background noise for lan.
The human brain was a funny thing, even though he was straining to hear the conversation, the sounds were just a
jumbled mess that gave him a headache.
He glanced over in Jeff’s direction.
Jeff immediately came over, standing behind him and silently pushing his wheelchair.
lan was weak, he could normally maneuver the wheelchair himself, but now his hands could do nothing more than
grip the wheelchair.
Maja wasn’t having an easy time either, she was talking to the doctor while seeing Jeff pushing lan away in the
reflection of the glass in front of her.
She knew that his health had deteriorated because of her. Despite his harsh words, she couldn’t help but fight back.
She knew that was just the kind of person he was, cruel in his words but never really taking any real action.
She looked down, hearing the doctor’s ongoing speech.
After a while, the doctor finally said,
“Here’s the current situation, Ms. Pennyfeather, the medical bills might be high.”
“As long as Coco can survive, money is not a problem.”
“The primary doctor would use the most advanced medical technology; Coco has a strong will to live so the
chances of survival are high.”
Maja let out a sigh of relief. Feeling energized again, she gratefully grabbed the doctor’s hand.
“Thank you, thank you.”
The doctor helped her sit down, handing her a tissue.
Maja was so worried that her forehead was covered in sweat, she seemed really anxious when she first got to the
pet hospital.

The doctor gently patted her back. The rules for veterinary clinics were strict, every vet loved animals. They once
saw a dog who had half its head chopped off by a burglar while protecting its owner.
The owner spent lots of money on treatments, but in the end, he could only hold the dead dog and cry.
The owner might get another dog in the future, but no dog could replace the feelings this dog brought him.
For someone who’s lonely, the healing power of pets was indescribable.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, have a drink of water, the surgery might go on till late.”
Maja held the paper cup the doctor handed her, even though it was filled with hot water, she just held it tightly, not
reacting at all.
The doctor sighed, asking again, “Did they catch the person who abused the dog?”
At the doctor’s question, Maja immediately tensed up, then slowly nodded.
She had already punished Darlene enough, now Darlene was taken away by lan, and Darlene’s face might never
recover after being slapped hard by her. ‘As long as they caught the person who abused the dog. Nowadays, too
many people have unhealthy mental states, and they take out all their dissatisfaction on animals.”
Maja wasn’t really listening, her gaze shifted towards the window.
All that was left outside the window was the clean stairs of the hospital, lan and Jeff were already gone.
