Hector POV
"What do you want to do?" Ezra asks in the stillness of the alpha's office, in the dead of night.
The only light was the desk top lamp and the glow of the moon shining through Beckett's office window..
It had been a couple of days since Kala woke out of her coma and the doctor had carried out as many tests as he
could, too many in my opinion. But not once did she complain, in fact she seemed bored of the entire situation.
"I need to leave, to go home. | can't keep her safe here not being my own pack grounds. I'm shooting in the
dark."
We had received a council demand for Kaia to appear before them, to discuss the future of the pack, especially
now with Beckett dead and her having not taken over the alpha title.
There was no chance in hell that | was going to let her go to the council, which | know Alpha Marc has most likely
insisted on. The pack wasn't under their control, but they will want to take advantage of her current state
of...forgotten mind. Things had escalated so quickly, now | had a pack on my hands full of reformed rogues
waiting to learn of their own fate.
"You're still up?" Alora knocks on the office door, pushing it open to find both Ezra and I in the dimly lit

"What's wrong?" Her eyes dart toimmediately.
"We received this..." | place the document down towards the edge of the desk, letting her read it.
"What is this?"
"It's a council summons for Kaia to appear before them."
"Why?"
"They want to know, with Beckett's death, who is taking over the pack."
"That sounds like a fair request.."
"Although it isn't Alora, it's Marc trying to get close to her...trying to get the council on side. She can't stay
here...it's not safe anymore." She sighs out, placing the letter back on the desk before rolling her eyes.
"Hector you're being a bit..."
"No Alora, time's up. She can continue her recovery at my pack.." | had claimed her as mine, she will have no
choice but to cwith me.
She backtracks, closing the office door behind her after peeking out to check the hallway was still clear,
"You're talking about taking the pack's alpha away from them. They won't survive that Hector, they adore Kaia.
She is their's as much as yours." She seethes out to me. Chapter 0157

"Alpha, why don't you return and I'll remain to keep her safe." Ezra offers.
"No, I'm not leaving without my mate Ezra."
"But Alora is right Alpha, this pack won't last a day without sform of leadership. They are still anxious
from the recent attacks."
| felt responsible for the safety of this pack, for Kala's sake. But | couldn't deny the overwhelming desire
to take her home, to take her away from this pack even if just for a short time. Keep her away from prying eyes
that would use her for their own power gain.
"I'll stay...I'll take on the pack." Alora boldly declares.
"What?"
"Not long term, just until Kala is ready. I'll be acting Alpha and then when she returns, I'll be her beta. I'll be by

"That's a big task Alora.."
"Yes, but I need it Hector, Ineed to do this, for her and for me."
"With your permission Alpha, I'll remain, support Alora until you are ready forto return to the Dark Phantom
pack."
This might just work. Alora held as much right to the pack being the deceased alpha's daughter. She could take
the pack-link on in Kaia's absence and with Ezra by her side, he would be an asset to her. "I'll send warriors, to
help keep the borders clear. You will need to report intoevery day though Ezra." "I'll report what | see fit to
report Hector, you can trustto keep the borders safe." Alora cutsoff. "It's not about whether | trust you
Alora, the Shadow Rock pack have a vendetta against this pack as it is, plus Alpha Marc's interest in Kaia...who
you are identical too."
"Yes but different in so many other ways. These are now my people, just as much as they are hers, were
Beckett's. They need protecting, they need their second chance."
"So be it. Inform the doctor Ezra, that Kaia and | are leaving...as soon as our warriors are here." My command is
clear.
"Yes alpha, I'll get word to the head warriors to make preparations."
