In an enclosed room, Davis welcomed the two phoenixes of opposite nature, Zahara and Yeyin. He watched them be seated while being uncomfortable, not because they thought he was going to do something to them but because they seemed to despise each other, not even looking their way.
He turned to look at Shirley who shrugged. She was the only one who was with him in this room, making it so that Zahara and Yeyin didn't doubt his intentions toward them.
"Congratulations on your wedding, Davis Loret."
Yeyin cupped her hands and gave her felicitations in addition to a gift.
Davis enthusiastically accepted the gift and thanked her, "Honestly, I didn't think Mistress Yeyin would come."
"Why are you still calling me that? I'm way more inferior to you in power that we're practically not even in the same world."
Mistress Yeyin uttered without a change in her expression. Not only was she composed, but her melodious voice was still indifferent, causing Davis to shake his head.
"It's not like that. Although my prowess is higher, your wisdom is not something I can match, Mistress Yeyin."
Mistress Yeyin blinked as her expression finally had a slight change behind her icy-white veil. She couldn't believe that the Emperor of Death would respect her.
For what reason?
They hadn't even interacted much.
Mistress Zahara also looked at Davis with some surprise that he would lower himself in front of Yeyin.
"What about me? Don't I have wisdom?"
"Uh..." Davis was at a loss.
It was Mistress Yeyin unwittingly who saved him and Clara and not Mistress Zahara.
His hesitation caused Mistress Zahara to frown, but Davis responded the next moment.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Although you two are sisters, you both couldn't be the same. Undoubtedly, in terms of taking control and leadership in battle, you're the best, Mistress Zahara."
Mistress Zahara's brows squinted. However, it seemed like she was smiling behind her crimson veil before nodding her head.
"Fine, I'll accept your praise."
"Sisters?" However, Mistress Yeyin frowned, "We're not sisters, so please don't refer to us in that way."
"Oh my, Yeyin." Mistress Zahara giggled ever so lightly, "There's no need to deny the blood relation we have, although I don't like being related to you as well."
"Don't speak to me. I'm more interested in knowing why Shirley Loret has my blood within her body."
While arguing, the both of them turned to look at Shirley at the same time, causing the latter to freeze.
Davis couldn't help but smile, thinking that not only were they competitive but still in sync.
"I think you two may already know, but let me officially introduce her to you two. Her maiden name is Shirley Ashton, and she is my beloved fifth wife who once saved me from the depths of the abyss once as I was dying, casting the Revival From the Ashes soul technique of the Fire Phoenix to help me recover completely when we were unmarried."
"...!"
Mistress Zahara and Mistress Yeyin both simultaneously had their eyes widen in shock. They couldn't help but look at Davis, wondering why he had revealed such an important matter to them, but they quickly understood how close and affectionate they were.
Casting the Revival From the Ashes soul technique on a loved one was the ultimate form of love and self-sacrifice a phoenix could display. This was particularly reserved for when one's partner was in a state of death.
For the Fire Phoenix Clan to try and separate these two strong and determined couples, they were undoubtedly offending them until one party couldn't live under the same sky.
Noticing the implications, Mistress Zahara became solemn, suddenly not knowing how to mediate between her clan and the person she had made some acquaintance with, not to mention he was extremely powerful that his potential had everybody and every power on their toes, either intending to recruit him or mostly end him.
"Mistress Zahara- no, Fire Phoenix Mistress Flamerose, don't you remember me, your inheritor?"
Shirley removed her crimson veil as she revealed her beautiful visage to them, her gaze shaking as her voice shuddered.
She was already feeling emotional from the time they gathered here, wanting to tell everything and make them regain back their memories. She expectantly waited for their reply, wondering if they were just brilliantly faking it to hide from someone they didn't know. However, their frowning brows said something else.
"What do you mean by that? Have I met you before somewhere else than the Aurora Cloud Gate?"
Mistress Zahara asked with doubt. Both Davis and Shirley's tones were always respectful for some reason, even though they could be harsh to her as she was from the Fire Phoenix Clan. She couldn't understand.
However, she couldn't help but sense a bit of unease, feeling that there was something important to her in this matter.
At this moment, Davis had his eyes closed. When he opened it, he could see karmic threads connected to people that stretched into the void around them. Obviously, he could see the threads that connected Mistress Zahara, Mistress Yeyin, and Shirley.
How could they not be connected?
Not only were they connected by blood but also by destiny. The twins literally passed on their wishes unto Shirley as they gave her their inheritances, wishing for her to help the Fire Phoenix Clan prosper.
However, he also saw those threads around Mistress Zahara and Mistress Yeyin quivering as though they would break. There were vague maws made up of nothing, much like space, gnawing on those threads, causing Davis to be utterly shocked.
What was this!? They were eating their karmic threads!
He had never seen something like this, causing him to quickly open his mouth.
"Shirley, stop. It's not time yet."
Shirley opened her mouth, about to say something. However, she pressed her lips heavily, suppressing the numerous emotions in her heart as she wryly smiled. She refused to say anything.
"What do you mean it's not time yet?"
"Davis Loret, how does Shirley have our blood? You should explain this to us."
Both Mistress Zahara and Mistress Yeyin demanded, seemingly unhappy with the sudden interruption.
They felt they had the right to know. Otherwise, it would mean Shirley had somehow stolen their blood or obtained it from someone who stole it when they were born. How could they let go of this matter unfinished?
However, Davis came out of his reverie, shaking his head as he regained his calm.
"I meant exactly as I said. I tried to reveal something using this opportunity as you two would never gather together, much less come to my residence like this, but it seems like we can't reveal what's going on right now, or things might get precarious and unknown. Although I'm grateful, I'm not willing to play such a card during this wonderful day that belongs to my new brides, much less when I'm weaker in cultivation. I apologize if I have caused you two emotional distress."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmDavis cupped his hands and eloquently explained before he bowed as though truly apologizing, causing Mistress Zahara and Mistress Yeyin to be taken aback. They were shocked at his gesture.
When had the Emperor of Death become so humble? This was not according to how they imagined him to be.
How was he a tyrant? He seemed more like the type to carry on authority with responsibility, treating everyone within his family better as much as they deserved.
"Mistress Zahara. Mistress Yeyin." Shirley continued after Davis, "Although there are differences between you right now, you two are undoubtedly sisters. You should treasure each other more as you only have yourselves to rely on."
"But of course, we are always your allies, so please depend on us as well."
She added as her lips curled into a wide smile.
It was so innocent that Mistress Zahara and Mistress Yeyin couldn't say anything to retort.
Before they realized it, they were already outside the island before the Reaper Soul Legion finally closed the island.
"..."
Staring at the island in disbelief, they could only look at each other. However, there was only confusion in both their eyes.
Clearly, there was something wrong with their history! They felt something huge was hidden.
And Shirley was Mistress Zahara's inheritor? Who was Flamerose?
Mistress Zahara remembered Davis asking a similar question. Was that Shirley's Immortal Inheritance Master?
However, Mistress Zahara knew for a fact that she was not Mistress Flamerose, as she had her own life and memories in the Fire Phoenix Clan, not to mention someone like that should have long been dead with only their remnant souls remaining.
She felt like hitting the wall with her head out of frustration while Mistress Yeyin was at a loss. Their curiosity was not fulfilled, and they felt rather empty.
"Davis, why did you stop me?"
Back in the enclosed room, Shirley couldn't help but ask.
"Hsss~"
However, Davis suddenly sucked in a breath of cold air, causing Shirley to blink as her heart sank.
That was not even a reaction he would show to dangerous things, much less to Rai Zenflame, who could end their lives in almost an instant, allowing her to vaguely understand he had sensed something that was out of this world.
